Please don't stop with global forest cover. We should now do more study on Tropical forest and undrlying laterite formation to find how much arresting of Carbon sequestration is happening due to deforestation and urbanisation in trnopics. Since here is evergreen forest, Mosoon and laterite sequester CO2..which has much ramification on climate change. I request USGS to initiate such study.

Thank you for sharing this great work. I am interested in using the dataset to calcuate forest cover change rate per area related to the 2000 forest cover baseline. How was forest loss/gain exacty defined ? The explanation says "a stand-replacement disturbance, or a change from a forest to non-forest state": what percentage of tree cover on the 2000 baseline was considered forest and non-forest?
