Making an Ivorite ring

- In this video I show you how I finish a sandblasted pipe and then proceed to make a ring out of Ivorite. It’s a quick overview, and I can go into more detail in the future. While, I set out to finish the pipe entirely for this video, I didn’t quite get to the mouthpiece. So, that just provides an opportunity to make another video in which I make the mouthpiece. Thanks for tuning in, and let me know what you’d like to see in future videos. Thanks for watching!

Sure thing. 😁
Nice pipe. And the watch is pretty nice too.
Cesar Lopes thanks. If things keep going in the current direction, maybe I’ll be able to trade it for a roll of toilet paper. 😂
Stunning work😳👏👌
WOW it's more than art
Home 9 days now. Ordered a couple hobby blocks. When this is over I’m getting a lathe. Wish had it all now. :) I see you’re in San Diego.. Santa Barbara here. Gorgeous pipes. Went and saw many of yours. Amazing.
I know the feeling. Yes indeed, San Diego. Thanks so much. Hopefully the video(s) are helpful.

im an hobbyst italian pipemaker ! be everybody strenght and take all care about us! rock n roll #stayhome
Jeff awesome thanks for sharing!🍭🐓👶
Nice video and very informative!. Wondering what you are using to seal the color/dye on the sandblast, so it won't be rubbing off?
Hi Man! Great videos. I have a question for you. Thé tools you use on the lathe for ebonite turning, are in hss made? When i turn the ébonite, i spend all my time on grinding m'y tools. Thanks for answer. Ciao from Italy
That is correct. Grinding the correct shapes and angles is important to get smooth cuts. And ebonite is very abrasive, so you will need to resharpen often, unfortunately.
@@jalanpipes thanks again, it's a great lesson every time i Watch your vids
Hi Jeff thank you wonderful video! Is that a mandrel used for final shaping ring on lathe?
Ah its just a pin gauge right?
Yes Jeff, how is the ivorite attached and turned in the lathe? Thanks.
what the first dye cordovan?
What is used for the adhesive to attach the “ivory” to the briar? Will the Ivory thermally expand and shrink back on the briar to not need adhesive?
I always use a two part epoxy to secure the rings. It's very strong, and has enough flexibility to manage minor material expansion and contraction.
Where do you bay your IVORITE
Jeff, is there any way you could do a video detailing the ring making process?
Yes, I've recorded one...but still need to edit.
@@jalanpipes sweet! I can’t wait!
@@jalanpipes Still editing? ;P
