  • In this video we run down to the winter pasture and check on the cows. Because of the drought, I am trying to decide if I need to reduce numbers or if I can somehow make it with what we have. After that it’s time to move this years bottle calf back to the herd and see if he can fit in!

i would suggest to get with a neighborhood kid that is with 4h or FFA and let them take the calf and raise it like a project. BTW i did have lots of experience with calves and dairy. Was herdsman for years with college dairy operation.

Tyler, so far a miracle has happened! The little calf is still alive. And looking back to the first day of its life the possibility of him just living was questionable.
The calf is growing, it’s breathing is much better, it holds its head up and you can tell that it hears. It can stand and walk, all things it could not originally do.
It’s eating and growing and seems to be enjoying life.
Your time, patience, love and prayers have made all that possible. Please don’t give up on him. I would like to suggest that we start a bottle calf fund so your compassionate, caring viewers can donate for its care. Medication, vet bills etc.
A final note, Callie was adorable in the background pulling that large branch around. She is so cute.
Thanks again for another great video.
Prayers from Indiana for everyone on the farm.

What a nice greeting party for the little blind calf. I guess Callie was dragging that huge stick around thinking it was supposed to be the drum roll stick😆. Last Monday we got 30 rain drops and again today it looks like we might get 40 drops…doesn’t to much to make the grass grow. You are so lucky to have a pump to irrigate. The ACID (Anderson, Cottonwood Irrigation District) has sent out letters stating that there will be NO water available this year, first time this has ever happened. Good luck with the vet appointment, will be waiting for the results. Thanks for a great video with terrific camera angels.

Can we keep him Dad? Can we?! PLEASE ???!!! Listen, we KNOW the ins n’ out of ranching just from watching your videos if not from our own experiences… so, we get all sentimental and fall in love with these guys… even the ones that are bigger and follow you around… I myself, never realised how much personality cows do have… sorry, we fall in love with them…OH! I was thinking, maybe as a distraction ? When you go to check a baby with a protective mom? Maybe a bucket with a bit of something tasty in it like sweet mix? Or some other kind of grain? May be a trade off for enough time to take care of or check the calf… jus’ sayin’… respectfully, Sue☮️♥️⭐️🙋‍♀️‼️

Hey there Tyler, I hope you're all well and good!
The calf certainly looks better, but he doesn't really act any better, so whatever you decide, I'm confident it will be in his best interest.
Apparently you don't pregnancy check your cows, which is unquestionably money well spent, and should become a part of your annual routine. Had you done this last fall, you wouldn't have 8-9 months worth of feed invested in an open cow (s) which is a losing proposition.
I hope y'all have a good one, and I'm anxious to see what the Vet says, but I'm afraid it's not going to be what you want to hear. 🐂 👍 🇺🇸

Sounds silly but I would like to share my experience. I raised meat goats for 7 years and had kids several time gone through pink eyes and developed while spot in the eye. Tried vet recommended advices and seemed didn’t work well as expected. Then I started with 5 drops of organic apple cider vinegar mixed in a coffee cup of clean water and applied 8 to 10 drops once a day. I noticed the white spot gone completely in five days and vision was back. I am not a vet, sorry just couldn’t wait to share my success. As I said , it worked well for goats. No idea on calves.
