There’s one more reason why someone might not comply with police. In this case, he literally didn’t understand why he was in trouble? The cop escalated at every turn and continued laying hands on and pursuing a man he clearly couldn’t subdue and who tried to reason with him before trying to run away from him. Lyoya was never a threat to that cop’s life. He was a threat to his ego.
I remember hearing a story of cops using physical force on someone for not complying when the person in question was jogging with headphones in so they didn't even know the cops were issuing commands at all.
He was armed with the Taser he took from the officer

A few month ago a group of loud college kids were climbing some construction equipment parked outside my apartment window late at night while I was trying to sleep. I thought about calling the police to report a noise complaint but even though I'm white and am unlikely to be targeted by the police I didn't want to risk one of the college kids getting shot over a noise complaint so I just waited for them to leave.
Thank you for thinking first. I’ve been in similar positions and yeah, it’s best to think twice before possibly escalating the situation.

That cuts both ways.....don't need some thug hunting down his neighbors after the cops leave.
Explain what is wrong with that? Cops aren't equal with anyone, they are there because someone called them to handle a problem. Just answer the questions and live. It's really simple.

Not the cops job to? Comply. Ifthey violate your rights, sue them and remove their qualified immunity and sue the cops individually for doing so too. That's how this stops. Enjoy the payday while you're at it.

I still vividly remember the segment Amber did on Seth Meyer's telling of some of the interatctions she's had with policemen. It was utterly terrifying and infuriating.
Me too, I think she was telling him about her Chicago days and how having a white person in her car or in her friend group likely saved her from getting harassed by a cop, or worse...

A doctor called the police because, unbeknownst to the mom, her toddler in the back seat had taken a small toy with him from the waiting room.
Last time I complied I was rewarded with a broken nose & fractured rib at 15 years old
So horrible. This shouldn't happen to anyone.

When Colin first took a knee, I had a Latinx girlfriend in NM that said Colin was being disrespectful of those who serve to guarantee his freedom. Ironically it was a retired Army Green Beret who advised Colin Kaepernick to take a knee during the national anthem in protest to police brutality.
Another issue is that not every situation requires an armed police officer to be sent to the scene. Especially mental health episodes.
