CR-V was never about 0-60 time, same with the RAV4, but both are top sellers in their class. Personal zero to 60 is not a selling point for me, reliability is tops, my Accord sport has 175k miles, and may not impress you 0-60 but I out mileage most with an 80 miles an hour avg from San Antonio to Kansas with no issues.

Looks nice and updated, but I will keep my 2017 Touring, don't see much more of an update to justify paying more. I get 6.8L/100 which is close to the current Hybrid. That being said, for anyone looking for a new great reliable CUV with fantastic gas mileage than this should be one of your top 3 picks!

I think I know what it might be. This generation all trims have LED headlights standard. Last model only the upper trims had them. Otherwise they were halogen. Nonetheless I agree with you because LEDs are NOT expensive anymore. It's especially asinine how no matter what trim you get on this new CR-V you will still be stuck with incandescent rear turn signals. Even worse I bet the reverse lights are LED across all trims now which is very stupid considering how little they light up compared to how much the turn signals are used (or at least should be used). Same BS Honda pulls with the Acura RDX

I own a 2019 CRV and my major complaints is the amount of road noise and the safety system which will activate unexpectedly and will give a noise but no indication of the problem. Thank you very much Joe and Lori for bringing us the driving impressions of the new 2023 CRV EXL. You guys ROCK !!!
I feel Honda should have increased the power for the 2023 CRV's upwards of 200HP and bring in the 2.4L engine which had lesser issues when compared to the 1.5L engine.
For that EXL price point: not having Fog lamps, LED back turning indicator bulbs, USB connectivity for the back passengers is a big negative when we compare it with the competition. Its a shame that Honda is being very conservative and very slow in the upgrades.

The Honda prices have jumped, sales are down 30%. Honda screwed up big time. After 7 Hondas CRV, Civic, Odyssey I purchased the RAV4 Trail (Adventure) which is better equipped and $4000 less than the CRV EX-L. Honda also dropped their loyalty program and incentives. I can’t come from a sedan with a 2.0 and downgrade to a 1.5 tiny engine. Even if they add a turbo or hybrid, it’s underpowered for such a heavy vehicle and long term reliability is questionable since that tiny engine will be overworked hauling around all that weight/ being that tall with more wind resistance. Seat design and headrests look like they are from a 1992 Pontiac. No LED turn signals. Just feel like others like Kia Sportage blows this out of the water on Tech and overall curb appeal. Unless they’ve significantly improved the CVT drive characteristics, then I would zonk that too. Also, rear qtr window design looks dated already. Again, other Compact SUVs that Joe has reviewed have better more updated design flair and flash than this Honda. I’m a lifelong Honda owner (Civic and Accord) but I think Honda has missed the high bar that this segment has and has come up short compared to others.

Once you are moving in these things, on a dry road, the 4wd system won't send any power to the back so whether it maxes at 40 or 50 %, no matter. The old model had a display option showing how torque was split. Be surprised if this one doesn't. Don't hat would show you for sure. Also there's such a slow initial launch with these things I doubt there's any need for torque transfer on dry roads either. Though it may do some to pre - empt the possibility. Off road or in snow or wet or even on steep inclines different story. The 1.5 has evolved into a decent engine, after a raucous origin in the Fit. But will never be a K series substitute.

Backwards in my opinion. We are still driving our 2014 EX-L, its got 63,000 on it going strong. Not sure what the wife will be driving next but not a lot of good engineering choices out there these days. Engineers seem to be going backwards in a lot of areas. I have to say I'm very disappointed with Honda for limiting the hybrid engine to the sport models. I'm not quite enamored with the sport styling of black wheels and red entertainment center lighting. The Sport hybrid even reverts to a column shifter after weaning us to a push button transmission in the previous generation. The shifter actually takes a lot of space and is in the way.I want the hybrid AND the EX-L styling together. I also agree the wheels are very boring compared to previous years. $33700 price is TOO HIGH for EX-L. While the CR-V is a good vehicle, it's also a step back in terms of pricing, styling and trim options.

You didn’t take off points for them keeping the junk 1.5 turbo. If they did a redesign of the RDX and gave it a real motor (even non turbo) I’d go that route. Changing the warranty terms to justify it building up fuel in the oil is not the way to fix an issue.

Currently owning 2019 Rav4 Limited AWD gas model in Canada. The AWD system in Limited/Trail/TRD is slightly advance while comparing with LE/XLE. The dash will display how the power be sent to the rear.
If the high-end gas model of 2023 CR-V cannot offer the AWD system like Rav4, it will be overpriced and quite outdated. The MSRP of the EX-L cost similar to RAV4 Adventure (checking with Toyota USA).
