A few years ago, Andy bought himself a Classic Ford Capri, which had been swapped with a 2.8 engine.. The car has a few issues which Andy has been needing to attend to, but since starting the channel, they have been neglected. So after nearly a year of being sat on the drive, today is the day we give this car some love and give it its first start in a year! What could go wrong..
We would be grateful if you could give the video a thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe if you're new to the channel.

Back in the day I thought the 2.8i was the coolest car on earth. You got to keep it alive somehow.
Ha ha I thought any capri was 👌 i don't know what's best...its not the most powerful engine running perfect
Agreed, but the Mark II Escort RS 2000 in diamond White that Doyle in the Professionals drove was different class as well 👍
That's one of my all time best cars, mk2 rs2000 x pack 🤤🤤
As a massive Carpi guy from back in the day Andy do the right thing, new plugs, new plug leads, check the dizzy, make sure its all clean inside, spend the couple hundred quid and at least get it running! then the usual, check fuel supply pressure etc etc, Get it sorted Andy this is great content, on a personal note get rid of the banded steelies and get some retro RS alloys on it!!!!
Another BOSS vid lads, Andy. You've got to bring it back to life, in a retro style. Give it the tlc it deserves
Thanks mate 👍 I appreciate your help, I personally like the steels but do think they need a bigger tyre, I do love the Brooklands alloys tho ha ha id have to Google what the rs alloys are, it's that big knock that scares me about the engine
@@TransformotionVR you already know what I told you mate, that Cologne motor sounds like a biscuit tin full of rocks if its not running on all six and set up right! you could do something really silly with it tho, find a rusted out Audi 3.0 V6 diesel with a manual box and do a conversion, more ponies than the 2.8, more tunable than the 2.8 and at the end of the day 40mpg lol
I bought my red 2.8i in August 1991 so now owned her 33 years. Still is the best car I've ever had. I put her in storage and didn't do anything for 14 and a half months. She still started 1st time. Only ran on 3 cylinders because of the injectors were sticking. They cleared and after a couple of minutes she ran sweet. Only other problem was the fuel pump relay was getting so hot it melted the solder on the circuit board. 3 out of the 5 wires on the relay were loose. I fitted 3 new terminals and no more problems.
I'm wondering if that's the wire on mine that's getting hot, I'll need to look into that, thanks mate....I wish mine just ran good ha ha 😂
If you think the 2.8 is beyond saving (it's had a bad DIY rebuild and isn't something fixable) get the 2.9 24v Cosworth engine in 👍
Good shout mate 👍
Loved the Capri.
I used to love working on the old engines, so simple, and everything was accessible!!
They're well better than all this modern crap aren't they!? Nice one 👍
@@TransformotionVRMost definitely 💯
Ah the memories. I had a 1.6 Capri back in the mid 80's Red with a Black vinyl roof and her name was Betsy (god only knows why). I think she was the only reason that the wife would look at me let alone talk when we first met.😂 Although she was no spring chicken by the time I got her (the car not the wife) she was a stunner and there was not one bit of rust anywhere near her and she shone as bright as any star. God! I loved that wee motor. I had her for a few years then ended up trading her for a mark 4 Cortina 2 ltr estate (the Capri, not the wife).
You will find a way to get her back on the road Andy, we have every faith in you. 👍
Ha ha you can tell you really loved that car! And the wife of course! 🤣 how was the cortina? I'm gonna investigate further before I make a decision
@@TransformotionVR The Cortina was a great workhorse and for the era of when I had her she had a bit of punch about her and could shift.
I more or less got my money back on her when I sold her (I had moved up in the world and had a company car by then 😁).
Always great seeing a capri again. Get it running straight again and leave the look as is. Get a nice 1.6 laser badge for the back and have some fun.
Thanks mate, they're a cracking looking car aren't they!? The thing is a modern 1.6 would leave this at full health anyway ha ha 😂
And whack pair of superchargers on it... if it comes up for sale give me a shout
Thanks man, will do
I’d love to see you and Liam do an engine rebuild on it, plenty of space in the unit to strip it down. Engine out, new head gasket, all new seals, ancillaries, full service, get some great content out of that
Tbh we had another youtuber out and he said the unit is a lot smaller in person, there's not that much yano. And the guy I got it off rebuilt the engine....not sure how well yet but that bang needs looking into
New fuel pump, take the plugs out see if any are wet. New condenser, check the order of the leads, check LT wires. Change the points if it’s still on them. There’s loads you can do to get it running. There’s no OBD port though…
I think it's the feed to the pump that's gone, last time I lost charge it was the fuse box itself so I might need a new one of them, I need to have the injectors checked too as they're unknow
Old cars the joys 👍👍
@@TransformotionVR check the alternator aswell as it might on the way out.
I bought the alternator last year david 😜
Deffo worth a few hours fault finding, it’s got the makings of a nice Sunday run out car! It’ll sound nice too!👍🏻
Ignition timings out on that I recon.seemed to be kicking back.
Yeah it was definitely popping back but there's also a major missfire weather that's spark or fuel I don't know yet 🤔
Check the plug wires are in the correct sequence from the distributor
I'm pretty sure they are as it ran better last year, but thanks for the suggestion 😉
Absolutely love these old Capris! Totally know what you mean by they seemed bigger back in the day. It really was a head turner back then and still is now! Really hope you can get this lil beauty back on the road. Would love to see a full rebuild of this old classic.
Nice one mate! Id love to do a full build on it....I just need to rob a bank first ha ha 😂
@@TransformotionVR you will need a mkII Jag for a bank job. Just need to rob 2 banks to afford the Jag 😉
Ha ha I could just rob the jag first then rob the bank ha ha 😂
Two months ago I bought a mk1 from scrapyard 😊 a lot of job to do, , but every Old Capri is worth save ❤
Love mk3, my father has 3 in 90s
Waiting for more and see you on the roads! :)
How bad is it? I like the mk 3 myself as I have a lot of childhood memories of them 😁 good luck with your rebuild
@@TransformotionVR somebody start restore and leave it for 20 years in barn. Took out interior and windows, did some welding jobs and finaly - sent this on scrapyard...
At this moment I'm collecting parts and money, will build a race car on it. Have you got a Facebook page? I can show you my scrapi ;D Good luck aswell :)
In the early 80s my dad had a black 2.8i Capri with jps logos along the door and side exhausts it was a beast (back then not now😂) can remember not being able to see over the bonnet lol
That sounds like a beast now mate! Id have that ha ha 😂 mines more of a mad max looking car
@@TransformotionVR it would be worth a fortune now if it was still around looking like it did, can remember him blasting Rod Stewart hahah yours could be something nice if you do it like some of the other cars you’d have done 👍
Nice one mate, I think id rather keep it ratty looking but keep the rot away, that way I won't be bothered about doing the odd skid here and there
Had a couple of capris back in the 80’s, I would restore it back to as original as you can, can’t beat a long nose Henry 😎
Ha ha is that what you call them ha ha 😂 😆 I think it'd cost me too much to return to standard
what a boss looking car, please please do a series on getting the capri running, great episode mate❤️👍🤟🤘👌
Nice one danny man!! That's a possibility, it's been sat on my drive for over a year, I really need to do somthing with it ha ha 😂
Used to love a capri back in my day especially the 2.8,I reckon you should rebuild the engine so you know what’s been done and get the paintwork back to original it would look good,I’m sure you and Liam can work your magic 👍
I'm definitely going to investigate soon, I'll see what's causing the running issues, fix the wires that are getting hot and see if it makes that knock/bang sound while running
@@TransformotionVR yeah definitely get those issues worked through and all sorted and see how it runs then once issues sorted it might not be a bad engine underneath hopefully
I know, the loud knock got me worried tho and even at full health it's only about 150bhp ha ha
@@TransformotionVR hopefully you get your the bottom of the knock aswell,150bhp was a lot back then, but look what a2.8 could produce today it’s unreal
That capri is shouting out for a cosworth engine and a top notch spray job
Are we talking escort/Sierra cozzy? Or the 2.9 24v casworth?
@@TransformotionVRdeffo the 2.9 I have one in mine and it was made for that car , why Ford didn’t use it I’ll never know
My parents had a 1.6 Laser so I've got a huge soft spot for Mk III Capri's. That engine sounds in a lot of pain, so I'd possibly look at a replacement engine if the current one is beyond repair, but definitely get it running again. Restoration wise, I'd probably get the interior tidied up, especially getting the seats repaired but leave the rat-rod look exterior.
It's not running so well is it ha ha im gonna have a look at what's up with it but I don't know how much time and effort to put into it as I don't know the history of the engine
@@TransformotionVR I hope you do get the car running, Capri's are sadly getting quite rare these days.
And they're so sick looking too 😉
Was amazing seeing this 😍
Nice one joe! I was nice meeting you too 😉
The last of the cool Ford Coupe, down hill all the way with exception of the MK1 Puma.
The mk1 focus wasn't a bad car, but It didn't have the looks of these beauties
The 2.8i has a none standard coil, might be worth double checking (low 6V to 9V running, 12V for starting). Check the petrol feed & return on the WUR, the mesh filters block up real easy and cause havoc... Best of luck...👍👍👍
Nice one mate, that's one thing I've not touched is the WUR, is it easy enough to do? I've definitely git the right coil, burton racing told me what one to get, thanks for you help
@TransformotionVR Hey,
Good news on the coil. For the mesh filters, WUR by the steering fluid reservoir, 2 bolts on top, 1 larger than the other. Crack those both off (fuel pressure will be released, as long as the fuel accumulator is holding the pressure in the system), lift them out and keep the crush washers, they will hold for several uses. Once the fluid bolts are removed, inside the WUR are the mesh filters, clean these and try again. Oh, also as its been stood, the main fuel filter could do with changing, to fit the capri they are half the size they used on the Sierra etc for the same engine, so again can cause flow issues.
If no joy, the fuel flap over the air filter, but these are a bit myth & magic, can be cleaned, but very finicky....
Best of luck....
Yeh Fix it ,you know you want to !.. My era of car , had loads of them one way and another...great memories.
I do want to! Ha ha 😂 And I knew a lot of yous lot would love the car too! Thanks for watching
Great car, modern engine and gearbox swap 👍
Too modern = too many wires and emissions controls, too old = unreliable....I need somthing in the middle ha ha
Hi mate
Swop the engine for a
3.ltr. One of the best cars I ever owned back in the day
Respect 👍
Nice one mate, ive looked at a couple of them 3.0 essex engines on ebay
Love how this Capri looks as it is.
Engine swap it, get it running and enjoy it. 😎
Sounds like a plan to me ha ha 😂 nice one mate!
Cool car,it would be nice to see a full restoration but I know cost can get out of hand, what about paint job in your transformation colours and then use it as a promo car, T shirts etc?
Not a bad idea Julian, tbh I think it'd look good on a t-shirt as it is, we could do a 'SAVE THE CAPRI' t-shirt 😉
i love my BMW E38 728i its well known in manchester ,But i love mk2 2.8 granadas ghia or ghia x .id have this sprayed black put normal wheels on it and double your money .fuel pump full of gunk .put an airline on fuel hose from carb and blow it backwards into tank it works .
Thanks for you help but this is injection and it's a feed problem not a blockage 😉
Good buy you’ve got there 👍
Thanks mate 👍
Put it back to as standard as possible. These cars need saving. My first car was a Capri. 1600 but it said 2.8 Infection on the back. I should have kept it!
You should have! Only if we knew what cars were future classics
One of my favourite cars the Capri as well growing up
A few things to consider in its current state
If anyone can restore it to its former it'll be you and Liam
I'm hoping that you take the transformation on and would like to see you taking it on tour at another car exhibition
They're a belting looking car! Why can't manufacturers see this and make an exact copy with modern engine and running gear, thanks mate, im sure it'll be at a show one day ha ha
A very cool car that deserves to be used. Assuming you checked it had oil in it and you haven't just welded the thing solid, the misfire could also be fuel starvation / blocked injector. Change the fuel filter anyway as it is probably full of congealed fuel by now, and clean out the injectors - see if that clears things up. If you want another example of how much bigger modern cars are compared to cars your dad had, I recently saw a Ford Granada which in my head from a kid were huge, tank things. Looked at today, they are tiny!
That's what I'm thinking now it's more fuel related, the fuel filter is new last year and the old one wasn't bad, I think I might pull the injectors out and get them tested. I'm not sure how I go about testing the jettronic system tho. I had this parked next to my old Mercedes cla and the capri looked tiny
I would keep it as is, and check and change the engine. Unsure of the wheels but there's not much better to put on than what's there.
Yeah I think that's the plan, I'm going to try and fix this engine and get it running, if it doesn't play ball then it's getting swapped
It might just be bad petrol which had the knock on effect of knackering the plugs before you put the fresh stuff in. The hot wires also indicate a bad earth which will not help. Just thought I would add my two penarth worth as an owner of a 2.8 injection.
Nice one mate I appreciate that! The fuel was drained last year and new stuff put on so it's only been in a year, ill go through the wires tho, I'm gonna do a compression check, im sure i changed the plugs last year too
No problem but thought I would say as mine ran like that after just leaving it over winter, with E10 in it. Also I am constantly changing plugs on some of my old cars if they have only been run up and not driven properly .If they are running rich on the warm up or misfiring the petrol seems to kill them .NGK’s are the worst for it. I might be completely wrong of course…..
Thanks mate, I dont use e10 either, vpower goes in mine, but I'll definitely check them out
You could take the engine out and have a look at what the previous owner has done. If it can be rebuilt or an engine swap.
I could do, we need a bigger unit really to do things like that so I can leave it all on a clean bench
Great video bro, my era car born in 1982, defo worth a restoration, get a T5 lump chucked init. 👌
Thanks man! Volvo T5 or vw transporter t5? Ha ha 😂 im an 80's kid and this is what I grew up around, capri's, escorts mk1 and 2's, xr2's, xr3i's, sierras.....it was brilliant
@@TransformotionVR yeh same mate, Volvo t5 lump 👌
They go and sound well don't they
engine swap.....3ltr Essex with triple carbs 😈🔥🔥
It's been thought of mate ha ha ive been looking on ebay
If your pockets are deep enough Andy then do the right thing and save the old girl 😀👍🏻
I'll be honest mate they're very shallow at the minute ha ha I really want it back on the road tho so I'll see what I can do
I've had a Capri's I have a serious soft spot for them. Started with a 1.6 when I was 19 moved onto a 2.0 then a 2.8 and 3.0. Worth fixing up Andy even with a 1600 shell. If it's solid it's worth good money
Yeah she's really solid, I just can't decide what do do with the engine, they're brilliant looking cars aren't they?!
@TransformotionVR timeless looking motor. Engine wise I don't know what you want. Ric Wood in Stockport is a guru with Capri engines but it depends on your budget. I preferred the 3.0 Essex engine over the 2.8 Cologne or you could put a nice 2jz or rb26 in there that would be so cool
Ha ha id love 2jz in it mate but they're a small fortune now and he's probably out my price range, id like to do some engine building myself so might look at the Essex engine and refresh it on the channel
Take a fuel sample.
Do a compression test.
This will hopefully point you to the cylinders misfiring.
Then do a cylinder leakage test.
Diagnosis it in 1 - 2 hours without major dismantling.
Nice one Kev, I'll bring it up to you soon ha ha 😂 the fuel was fresh only from last year but I'll give it a compression test....I think it's fuel/injectors tbh
I’m guessing the missus has told you to shift it fella 😂 slap a turbo on it.
Ha ha even if she did aparently I don't listen ha ha its back there now 😄
Had a 2.0 & 1.6 loved the Capri & mk2 escort kids today haven’t lived straight into a brand-new car ..used to buy them for £500 & fix them daily but those were the days ha
I wasn't quite old enough to be driving them but grew up with my parents and there friends driving capris, escort mk1 and 2, xr2, xr3i and sierras......I think my family were ford guys ha ha 😂
Don't see them anymore .... needs a complete respray and original wheels ( seen some lovely ones recently at the classic car show in Surrey last weekend ) But the one we had in SA was the XR6 Cortina and then the XR8 Sierra
That would cost an arm and leg tho, id just like it running properly at the minute, maybe it'll get treated in the future ha ha
Please find a way to revive it, either rebuild the engine or swap it and make it a 2.8/brooklands replica. It’s to good not to sort it if you can't
I'll definitely be doing somthing with it mate, I do like the Brooklands 😉
It's a real project for someone. That interior could be brought back, the bodywork can be sorted sorted. Add classic wheels, and It could be a classic 2.8 replica.
I just don't know what to do with the engine knock/wiring/missfire/oil leak. I dont know how good the previous engine rebuild was
I like the rat rod look, don’t think engine is bad but sounds like injection system and wiring needs an overhaul! Or 2.9 4x4 engine and running gear! That’d be awesome in a car that light!
Great video as always and don’t let it sit another year!👍
Tbh I like it too, it was that knock that concerns me about the engine, I dont know how well the rebuild was, im looking at a couple of options the 2.9 is one of them ha ha thanks for watchin 😀
that could be a great car get it sorted lad love capris be nice to see it back on the road next video please
Id love it to be back on the road mate! It needs doing one way or another
It is a really sexy car sad it’s not running maybe an engine swap but I don’t know if it’s worth spending the money maybe hunt for another one.
These cars aren't cheap here in the uk, it's definitely worth putting a few quid into
Sounds like its only running on 3 cylinders, never thought much of the 2.8 engine, the head design is crap, with siamese ports.
The essex engine is stronger and more tunable, probably the cheapest option
A modern AJ30 duratec or slk m111?
I love your user name 😁 I take it you know a lot about them? I think these are only 150bhp at full health aren't they? Do you know if the Essex engine would bolt straight up to my current gearbox? What about the 2.9 out of the xr4x4 or the 24v cosworth?
Definitely engine fix or replace. Keep a cool classic on the road even if it is a Sunday fun car
That's what I cant decide, fix or replace haha but I will do 😉
Andy, I think you should rebuilt the Capri. Give it a more powerful engine and tidy up the body. Will make a really nice muscle car. 😉
It definitely would mate! I need to look at prices of replacement engines ha ha 😂
I'd love to see you get it running properly - I'm sure you can (challenge)
But how about an M3 or M5 drive train swap?
Such a great car
Now that would be a machine!! 😁 the only thing is the cost involved, everything with an M badge on gets super tax ha ha
Il love the Capri please keep it going, you guys can do it
Nice one john, I just need to make a decision on which way to go with it
I had a silver 2.8i injection back in the naughties it was an A reg with a 5 speed gearbox and a LSD with a recaro interior. Loved that car.
Don't do the whole Mad Max thing that everyone does. Just keep the rat look and stick a solid reliable 1UZ toyota/lexus V8 in there
I'm happy to keep it like this tbh, especially while I'm getting it running right, not a bad shout eith the v8
I used to see a gold 2.8 Ghia on my way to school, early 90s it was eye catching to say the least! Nice car but looks like a major project 😬 good luck with it 👍
Nice one Mike, she's a bit poorly at the minute Ha ha 😂
2.0 or 3.0 Ghia, Ford didn't build a 2.8 Ghia Capri. 👍
@@andicog I stand corrected!
You should do a special video, my shed collection 🙉🙈🙈😂😂😂
Looks like that Mad Max car (one from the 80’s)
Ha ha its definitely a one off 😄
If you consider selling it or you fancy doing a deal with one of the classic cars ive got please let me know.
My parents had capris and spent a lot if time in them and would live to own one.
Thank you Chris
What have you got? Ha ha tbh I don't think I'm ready to get rid of it yet, unless you have mk2 escort 😉 ha ha
Still one of the best looking cars ever made 🔥 probably be a nightmare to do but V8 swap would be immense 😍
I get your logic mate, capri- one of the best looking cars out there...v8 engine- one of the best sounding engines out there....boshhhh! Killer combo
Check points, corrosion inside dizzy, HT Leads, spark plugs, Carb Jets.
It's electronic fuel injection so no carb, but it'll be checking the others
beautiful car keep working on it bring it back to tradional it looks class.
They don't make them looking like this anymore do they
Rebuild engine, paint car, will be worth it
You make it sound dead easy ha ha 😂
Drop a tuned pinto lump in it. 300 plus BHP sleeper.
Id love one of them in it, they sound awesome on full song!
Very cool car
Nice one mate
Engine swap it with a focus 170 engine you can actually buy a mountin kit for the swap offline in and out job plus the focus 170 engines abit more modern then the lump init now tasty classics on here is doing the same maybe he can help you out with the 170 mounting kit great content tho lads loving it id keep the capri looks naughty with thos bandid steels on keep up the good work boys 👍
Thanks mate, that is one of the possible options the 170 engine, and a couple of yous have said about tastey classics so I've give him a sub and will be contacting him ha ha nice one for watching
Engine swap - Ford/Volvo 5cylinder turbo 😁😁
You can't kill the Capri - it NEEDS rebuilding. Ideal TVR project!
Great video, lovely to see the Capri being driven 😁 🖖
You're the second person to say volvo t5, ill look at how much they are....could be a shout, it's not going anywhere yet and it definitely won't be going the scrap yard ha ha
Get a piece of tissue and hold it to each exhaust. See if it sucks it in (don't let go of it)
Also pull a plug lead off one at a time and see which cylinder is misfiring
Red dash lights are handbrake and ignition on
I'll try that mate, I think we're going to do another video and propper investigate it this time before I commit to an engine swap, I'm pretty sure one of the red lights is for the fuel pump electrical system and the alternator
@@TransformotionVR I just looked up the lights to double check, the leftside red light is handbrake on and also low brake fluid level light. The right side light is ignition warning. It should go off once engine started
Definitely worth investigating this engine, it could turn out to be something simples
Hi guys, that could be a really cool capri with your skills. I'm watching Ben from tasty classics rebuilding one at moment, take a look at his channel
I've just been over and had a quick look, he's gained another subscription ha ha ill be sending him a message and having a chat about a fee things
@TransformotionVR hi that's fantastic, be great if you could do a vid together
@@TransformotionVR thanks for taking the time to reply
No worries mate, while we're only small (not too many messages) we try and reply to everyone 😀
Basically keep your 1.6 laser shell as the original and then you can just make it into a sleeper
I just don't know what engine to go for if I do it
Keep it ratty ! Love the wheels.
I kinda like it too ha ha I do think they tyres need to be a tad bigger tho, thanks mate!
Also check exhaust for blockage. One video clip shows gasses from one bank.
Yeah I noticed that, ill pull them off ha ha nice one mate
Why are you talking engine swap? Plugs, leads, rotor arm, dizzy cap and points, check cold start on the injection. Valve clearances are an easy check then do a compression check. Pulling the plug leads off one at a time would have pointed out the cylinder that's missfiring. 2.8 Cologne is a simple enough engine to rebuild. For god sake don't rip it out and replace it with a 4 cylinder, go Essex V6 or V8 Rover or Yank V8.
Good idea to use optimax fuel but you can't map a 2.8 as it uses K jetronic (as I remember).
Owned a few 3.0 Capri's back in the day, Mk1 and 2 , they were cheap and were great away from the lights and fun to drive.
Also check it's charging as your battery went flat and the injection won't like low volts to the pump.
The plugs, leads, rotor arm, and dizzy were new last year, I haven't checked the WUR yet so that's on the cards and I think im gonna send the injectors off to be cleaned and tested. I pulled a number of leads off one at a time some it didn't really make a difference.....id love a yank v8 in it 😁
Had a few my favourite was 2 lt gia
Was it? How come? Did you have the 2.8 and 3.0?
Bin the 2.8, they’re a total pain, I’ve got a 2.0 Capri, the pinto engine is far simpler without that old Bosch injection system. I’d stick a focus ST 170 or Ford puma 1.7 in it…
It is isnt it!? Nice man, that's what I'm leaning towards tbh ive got a couple of 2.0 pintos in my watch list on ebay now, do you know if they'll fit directly to my existing gearbox?
@@TransformotionVR I think the 2.8 gear box has a different bell housing and is a bit longer geared. You’ll need a type 9 gearbox for a 1.6 or 2.0.. check on the forum to make sure though.. don’t want you forking out for another gear box if you don’t need it.😀
Nice one mate I appreciate your help
Quality 📹 and that capri is absolutely stunning 😍 keep like like looks gangster 😎😎 can you not do and engine rebuild on it they may have left everything finger tight lol
Nice one joe! It's definitely got presence if nothing else ha ha 😂 yeah items an option like
bang a tuned zetec in it more power and reliability
Yeah its not a bad shout, on throttle bodies
When's the next update on the Range Rover Classic?
Not sure yet mate we need to order a few bits for it
I love the mk3 capri ghia, i wanted one so badly, i reckon get it running right, chuck some only fools and horses seat covers on it lol, or old school drift car
Ive always like them too! If it had the power I'd definitely take it to a drift day at our local track 😁
Keep it
I am, I just want it working now ha ha
A coyote 5.0 swap would be 👌
Ooo that'd be nice
Erm… Maybe you could drop a small block Ford 289 or 302….. Tremec gearbox, Wilwood brakes and LSD …. Could be a complete monster restomod
Also, would get YT viewers for a complete restomod series…
Ha ha it would definitely be a good series for YT but unfortunately we're not as big as some other channels so can't afford a massive build like that at the minute....maybe when we've grown tho 😉
Some work to do on that Capri, do you and Liam do this full time or is it a sideline??, good luck with it. Probably used a tenners worth of fuel playing with it 😂
We've always messed with cars and bikes, we're doing the youtube thing 3 days a week and the other 2 normal work to pay the bills
Needs to be saved, irrespective of the shell and engine not being original. Perhaps and engine swap?
Yeah I agree! It won't end up in the scrap pile like. Any suggestions on engines?
Engine swop it even if you put it back to a stock 1.6 /2.0 pinto reminds me of my lowly 1.6GL in white with brown interior 1978 believe my car ended up in Southport VWJ624S I should have kept it 😢
Ha ha we all have cars we wish we still had don't we! Only if we could see what's a future classic ha ha 😂
Can you change a sixteen normal carb body and put a injection engine in or will the wiring be different iam not sure good luck anyway
Id imagine it won't have the wiring it needs but I'm not too clued up on these old cars tbh
Fix it up Andy 💨
I will, eventually ha ha 😂
Why don't you just fix what you have check static timing check valve clearances check continuity of ya plug leads run some cerb cleaner and find somewhere to check your engine management system for faults but from what I could hear the engine is good as its sat outside for a year your piston rings might have froze which should come around with a few heat cycles
The plugs, leads, dizzy and coil are all new last year, I haven't checked the mechanical timing yet, personally I think it's an injector or 2 that's at fault, we'll definitely do another video on it checking everything before I commit to doing an engine swap
what a great car just needs a new motor
Agreed ha ha 😂
Original for sure
It's not original tho, and id need a 1.6 engine to make it that
Nice video lads
Nive one
Time to drop a k20 in it 😂😂😂
Not a bad shout jussy, just need to figure out how to make it rwd ha ha
Wheels need changing to ones that allow tyres with a decent sidewall. Or wear a gumshield to save your teeth from bumps and potholes.
Ha ha I can fit some bigger tyres on these, I agree the fronts look a bit silly how small they are
@@TransformotionVR Ten years ago I spec’d out a Mini Cooper with run flats, sports suspension, and whatever the larger wheels were. It was painful to drive on less than perfect roads. It’s probably why I’ve got a bad back.
Ha ha I bet it handled good tho 😆
fuel pump relay , pump connections, bad earth etc etc
I'm wondering if them wires that were getting hot were for the fuel pump, last time it had an issue with the pump not working it was the fuse holders themselves not making a good contact
Now I don't know much about car engines, but even I know it should not do that! BTW what is a coil and what does it do?
Ha ha the coil creates the power to make the spark which is distributed via the distributor down the HT leads to the spark plug which is in the cylinder head, then ignites the petrol in the cylinder creates the bang which rotates the crank 😉 hope that help mate
@@TransformotionVR it does thank you. And thanks for your patients explaining these things.
Go OEM+. 👍🏻
Itd take some work to get it close to oem
@@TransformotionVR labour of love series, like a certain Rangie!! 😁
Ha ha dont talk about that, we were on it today trying to do a jigsaw that someone else had took apart
defo save it mate rat look is sweet in black engine swap for sure jonno is right it looks sick … you guys are up to it look at the taxi .. ye v6 out of a cougar if it would fit ?
I totally agree mate, it's a sick looking car, I just think even if this was at full health it'd still only be 150bhp and it'd take a good bit to get it there. What bhp are they? It doesn't have to be a v6 like
@@TransformotionVR about 170 it seems capri was rear drive ? am I right guess cougar was think that was replacement for it or I may be talking bollocks ?
Ha ha im not sure 😅
I would put a ford focus st 180 turbo engine in her
What focus is that out of?
An engine swap would be great to see
Any suggestions on what engine?
Something like a cosworth or a rover v8
A cozzy engine would be mega dear, unless it out of the Scorpios they're not too much
I need to know whats up with it laaaa
Ha ha so do I mate 🤣
I'd like to see a 2.9 cosworth v6 24v in it. 😅
Yeah that's not a bad shout, I've just seen a 2.9 on Facebook market place but it's out of the Sierra XR4X4, not the cosworth one
@TransformotionVR The old Granada Scorpios' are hard to come by. What a mod though. 👍
What's the difference between the 2.9 Sierra engine and the cosworth? Just the amount of valves?
@TransformotionVR and overhead cams too, I think. 🤔
