- I’m trying out some new stuff in this one. Experimenting with some lineart styles, editing stuff, etc. Don’t worry, I saw ya’ll’s suggestions and am looking them over! Also, in case some of ya’ll are confused, the black blobby thing is a physical metaphor for depression and mental illness, etc. that in mind, enjoy the short video. I have something big planned for September, so keep an eye out!

This is one reason I love your videos: we get to see the broken side of Stan that we don't see in the show. And that's for good reason; it would ruin Stan's character if that was shown in the show. But with your videos (and probably others'), we can see that side. It doesn't mess up our perception of him, but rather makes us love him more and want to give him a hug :3

your way of tying amazing Broadway numbers with angsty Gravity Falls always gets me. But it’s not forcing in new angst/story to the show, it’s drawing out and highlighting what’s already there. And that speaks so much to your abilities - plus it’s been awesome to see your artstyle grow and develop with each video.

honestly everything about this is amazing, but the thing that really gets me is at 1:49 when it ways "would they like what they saw," showing the kids, and then "or would they hate it too" showing Ford. I just... the level of detail is incredible

0:11 Wait wait wait HOLD UP I know the video in general is about him having stolen Ford's identity and running the Mystery Shack (or so I assume by the outfit montage, at least????), but is he saying "This was just a sad invention." about the STAN O' WAR???! Because if so that's really sad :( I mean Evan pretending to have been best friends with Connor when he barely knew him is probably still sadder, but Stan, c'mon, you actually WERE best friends with Ford!!! Your sailing dream *was* real!!! I mean yeah it may not have been a possible dream if it turned out that you weren't able to make the boat seaworthy, but the two of you genuinely believed in your dream, at least as children!!!!
0:20 I don't know whether this was done intentionally or not, but by choosing to give everyone red noses and cheeks in this video (I think Ford ended up with some shadow on his cheeks in some of the shots in Lullaby for a Prince, but this seems to be the first time you're intentionally spotting his cheeks like Mabel's), you made Stan kinda look like a clown (particularly in this shot, where he's smiling despite not being happy, since showmen gotta put on an act), which is interesting since I once read an analysis (I think it was on TVTropes, but I can't find it atm) about how Stan liked the Gleefuls' sad clown painting because it reminded him of himself, which is also why he starts talking about his depression when watching Alex Hirsch desperately juggling on TV :(

0:52 This is so cute AAAH I'm trying to think what this shot reminds me of - I feel like it reminds me of Mabel. Maybe partly because of the anime part of Lost Legends??? Kid Stan??? Hmm, I guess the way he's clenching his fists is kinda like the beginning of Big Brother, I'm Just Like You, only there he's excited and determined and here he's sad and hunching in on himself a bit :(

1:09 Nice showing the depression fading in and out! It's faint enough that I think I may've missed it when I watched it on my phone - it being faint is a good thing, though, because it'll be even more angsty when it gets stronger later as things get worse for decreasingly-young Stan :(

Seriously, I didn't realize what it was when I first watched it on my phone, so that was a fun thing to realize when I rewatched it on my computer!! :D
Also I love the broken line showing Stan's moving his hand towards the keychain, perhaps shakily. Works especially well with the emotion in the singing and the pulsing of the (now-stronger) depression.
1:12 Ford LITERALLY crushing his dream!!!! Also I love how Stan's hand is curled back because Ford suddenly stepped on the keychain close to where his hand was like he wasn't thinking about Stan's safety at all. Because Ford crushed his dream right when it seemed to be within reach and didn't think of the damage it might do to Stan's emotional health :( And also it's cool how the depression shadow seems to grip Stan's hand and Ford's pant leg.
1:13 I love the blood on his face here!! That's something he didn't have in canon, so to have it in this metaphorical scene where he's on the ground having been reaching for a keychain representing his dream makes me think it's an intentional reference to the time he had to "chew his way out of the trunk of a car" (yikes), and, more broadly, a metaphor for his traumatic experiences during his ten years on the road in general. The color and the way it's drawn look very understated, making it both realistic and subtle, like how Stan's trauma was both very real and subtle enough to be missed by Ford! Also contrasts nicely to the car scene, where his mouth didn't have blood on it because he hadn't experienced the mouth trauma of the trunk incident yet :(

1:59 Him ripping the "DEAD" from "STAN PINES" and then crumpling his name just works so well with "I just keep on running away from what's true" - he's run away from his identity by faking his death, but it's who he actually is, but he doesn't like who he actually is/he's a mess emotionally :(
2:31 Huh, the shot from the end of I'd give anything! (Or rather, a redrawing of it - yes, I compared the two to see whether or not it was the same exact lineart.) It's interesting that you chose to intentionally reference one of your other videos like this - though I'd have added the nose and cheek shading (and maybe varied the line thicknesses a tad more?) you have going in the rest of this, since it's such a prominent feature of this video that that'd make it fit better with the rest of the artstyle you've got going here.
2:56 ...Okay so one of my favorite things about this video is actually this part, the endscreen animation/singing XD Because like everything goes calm and quiet and then we suddenly get Stan crying rivers while singing "THAT'S NOT A WORTHY EXPLANATION" like he's trying to apologize for the video not being a good enough apology and STAN, YOU *ARE* WORTHY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing analysis as always! Reading gave me all the happiness chemicals. But I’ve done the rosy cheeks thing for a while now, it’s not really new. Also the person who crushed the boat wasn’t literally Ford (although it could me a metaphor or second meaning). It was supposed to be him reaching for the keys to his car to escape the thugs he owed money, hence the blood. But one of them stepped on it to prevent him from getting it, before knocking him out (a frame that’s hard to see because it’s short and heavily glitched) and I’d imagine going to stuff him in the trunk of his own car to suffocate or bleed out. Luckily Stan had other plans ;). And that AMV is AMAZING! Seriously, when I first started out I never thought I’d inspire anyone to make anything! But now at least three different people have been pushed to create something beautiful. It makes me so happy to get to see ya’lls talent :)
@@PlayersUnitedArtHuh, looking back you *have* shaded the cheeks and noses on all four of them before. I think this might be the first time all four of them are shaded like that in the same video, though. And I think the shading on their cheeks is a bit rounder in this one? At least on older Ford and, especially at the beginning of the video, older Stan. I think the main reason it stands out so much in this video, though, is that the characters (at least their faces, aside from their cheeks and noses) are very white, aided by the fact that the shading on their faces is basically the same shade as the background, so there's pretty noticeable contrast there.
Oh. OH. *O H.* !!! I... don't know if that's better or worse if that's something that actually happened and not a depiction of how he felt about what happened with Ford D: I mean, on the one hand, it's nice to know he's not imaging Ford crushing his dreams seemingly intentionally like that, and we already knew he probably got beat up in canon. On the other hand, Ford *did* crush his dreams in canon, even if unintentionally, and now we *know* Stan got beat up (I can see that frame now that I know to look for it (D:)). Although Stan *actually* having a tiny ship-in-a-bottle keychain is adorable. Although in that case it's really sad for it to get destroyed :( Although I guess it'd be worse for it be his *brother*, intentionally crushing his dream??
Forgot to mention this: 1:55 "Or would they hate it too" I'm having trouble reading Ford's expression here - is he mad? At Stan for hating himself, at Stan for thinking Ford might hate him (actually no that's probably not it, he didn't lie about his identity to Ford... although I guess he still had some emotional walls up with him?? Although maybe not if this is taking place right after Ford comes back???), or at himself for contributing to Stan's mental health being this bad and/or not helping him with it? I'm not entirely sure what that symbol means - I think it's realization, right???

@@aligningducks5887 to answer your question, Ford’s mad that he’s starting to feel guilty. He doesn’t want to face the fact he might be wrong, and that stan could genuinely be hurting, because deep down, he DOES care. He just doesn’t want to admit it. So he’s trying to banish this feeling of guilt and ignore Stan, harnessing previous anger to numb himself to Stan’s plight. Because he isn’t willing to forgive him. He wants to be right.
