The navistar doesn’t have diff lock so it doesn’t make sense to put an off-road gear box on it. High range gear box, shift it to high gear when it’s on the third gear and watch it climb absolutely everything
First. never use the offroad gearbox in the navstar. Low gear is useless so only use high gear and automatic as the navstar doesnt have diff locks. Navstar can get through mud faster, get up steeper hills faster and the navstar har more torque
This is one of those tests that makes the “winner” look better than it is. The 5000MV is a far more stable feeling truck, with plenty of capability despite no diff. The Freightliner has a very short wheelbase which makes the handling very snappy, it’s just not as usable in my experience.
Having both vehicles, I would personally choose the freight liner over the navstar but in a neutral standpoint they really are toe to toe, with freightliner winning most of the rounds with the navstar right behind it
I played with Navistar with crane as hauler + p12 Fuel + platform. And then in hard mode nowadays with Freightliner crane hauler + fuel + White Western Star + platform (4). And in my opinión Freightliner is faster cause it doesnt stop ever. Just pulls and pulls
I use both of those trucks for different tasks. I'm completely happy with what they have to offer. The Navistar will het some stuff done with a crane and semi trailer. The 916's short wheelbase will allow you to make easy work of those big trailers in tight spaces.
I tried tug of war online turns out that the Freightliner will damn near pull everything. I do not remember going up against the Navistar. I will have to test it
I have both trucks and I can confirm that the Off-road gearbox on the Navistar is completely useless. The Navistar is extremely good and way better than the Freightliner in my opinion. The Freightliner has a tendency to get suck way easier and the tiny fuel tank combined with its high consumption really hurts it. The Navistar despite not having a diff lock is excellent and won't get stuck easily as you showed. Since the steering of the Freightliner was recently improved I use both but the only thing the Freightliner is better at is speed and the horn. To be honest I like both of them a lot. I think they look really cool but I would rather take the Navistar out most days of the week. Just my opinion. Nice comparison 👍
The freightliner is a staple in my fleet. It's small size means I turn to it before just about any scout for exploring (I just pulled a fuel trailer along and leave it if the road gets too rough so I can come back for fuel) and it was one of the first trucks I worked to unlock early in the game. It and the international paystar 5070 were two early game workhorses that carried me through until I leveled up enough for more trucks or got dlc. I should give an honorable mention to the western star 4966 too as it carried me through a lot of Michigan when I was trying to finish the whole map before moving on to Alaska.
I love my little freightliner, I've used it to complete just about every single cargo contract in Alaska.(edit; eventhough it is hungry for fuel there were plenty of fuel stations along the way
i still use the gmc. even though it's a mean't to be a highway truck, it's completed every mission that i've had to do. it does like to tip over though.
Based on some comments, looks like the Navistar is at its best when not constrained by the rules of the test. Honestly, it wins this for me anyway, even if it doesn't have diff locks.
People are Navistar bias because you can get it in the very beginning of the game and it carries you for quite a while plus the Freightliner steering was bugged for a while so nobody was using it, it is recently patched. That Freightliner will drag that Navistar in everything other than maybe stability.
To be fair he's right, but I unlocked the Freightliner and it was underwhelming compared to the Navistar. With a high range transmission and a lift with the big chained tires it's unstoppable. The Freightliner has backup lights, there's that...
Love them both! Well... I love pretty much every vehicle in this game though, but variety is the spice of life! Anyway, good videos bro, straight to the point & high quality editing & captions!
Ngl after using both for months now I've noticed that ill much rather use the navistar mainly because its more durable u will find yourself taking a lot more damage using the freightliner
Was this done in 6.0 or previus versions or 7.0 PST and after? I'm asking because the stearing on the Freighliner was imensly improoved on the 7.0 PTS from what I've heard
yeah it was, when I tried to the truck closer to launch in may it was nearly unusable for steering, it was giving a opposite direction wheel trun everytime you tried to make it turn was super frustrating. Now that it's fixed it's one of my favorite trucks.
The Navistar performs better in auto imho, with it's huge power and big tires it's very good for carrying speed and finding grip in "normal mud" which you find on most roads. Truly a beastly machine, very fun to drive. Not much that can slow it down once you have a bit of momentum.
Navi needs to be run in auto to see what it’s really capable of. As this game does not always get the most out of using low gear especially with only awd vehicles. I would love to see you try it again with the Navi in auto if you get the chance
I bought the freightliner and I liked it at first but after a while but the slow steering time had me swerving and crashing all over the place so I sold it and bought a dl 3194 cos it does such a better job now that it has diff lock
I recently started the game over so I lacked money or level to buy a better truck and I used the navistar for all the big truck missions in Michigan I also used the highway gear box , it’s my first time using that gearbox I normally use the off-road gear box but I haven’t discovered it yet . I had the freightliner in my last play through but the steering was horrible, I believe they fixed it in one of the past updates 🤔 . So my thought is , starting out on a new play through the dlc vehicles are a lot better than the original vehicles they first give you in game
Your first mistake is putting the offroad gearbox on the Navistar and the second is using chain tiers on mud. Leave the chain tires for ice. For the Freightliner go with UOD-2 and for the Navistar go with OHD-1. There's a segment on reddit about the tires in this game and its attributes. BTW go through a mud pit with a load and then tell me if the Freightliner can handle it and always run on auto with the Navistar.

they did freightliner injustice...It's winch setup limits it to attach fuel trailer, it even reduce it's turning radious with trailer. the tires are also not as good compared to navistar. I like it's looks but they really should reconsider rebalancing it at some point.
Yeah but with i need the large snorkle on the truck, without it i dont really need it. Sins a lot of the map(s) are underwater which mean i cant use it there. But its nice to know theres and option that is almost as good imo.
one more thing I found out that due to that winch setup on it's rear it can't haul fuel semi trailer and can't jacknife cargo, etc semi trailers either...jacknifing in this game is benificial as it helps you to revese a semitrailer easily in tight spaces
Navistar got me through at least 70% of the campaign at least through Michigan and majorly of Alaska and a good portion of tymir Navistar with the step deck trailer
Before anyone asks why I would use the step deck it’s because of its low profile and wide ness making it harder to flip over especially with the Navistar good power for it it’s also wide as well making the sides of the trailer stick out a lot to get caught on trees
I only recently started playing this game, but I have to say this comparison was a little unfair to the Navistar. I can understand setting them up with equivalent upgrades, but the choice to use the offroad gearbox, and using the low gears on the Navistar severely hindered it. I think the comparison would have been more interesting if the trucks were set up, and driven, to their individual strengths.

It's not a fair test, chained tires while better than any other in that they have an ignore ice function, they have lower of all stats and you weren't shifting up in the navistar on the speed run and you didn't have the freightliner in low in the shallow mud
