I ALWAYS cry there. Benton had, so to speak, raised Carter in the ER and his panic and emergency at attending to Carter in this horrific moment is both chilling and tear-jerking.
I appreciate that Noah can step up and admit that his behavior wasn’t the greatest. As humans we make mistakes. I think most of us can say when we were in our mid-twenties we made some bad choices that we regret as we get older. It’s being able to acknowledge and apologize that shows our character.
Very well said, and I kinda get where he was coming. You have to remember at the time ER was on its fifth season, Noah was one of the original cast members, and to have this new actress (Martin) join the cast and all of a sudden her character is getting all the story lines (which after rewatching season 5 recently she really wasn’t, season 5 was centered around Doug and Carol). It’s like your parents having another child and suddenly you being the older sibling, aren’t getting all the attention anymore. Now granted being rude to her, off camera is taking this too far.
Aww Alex sounds so sweet. I saw an interview of her talking about Dr Greenes death also and she nearly burst into tears there also and got super emotional. She seems like a really sweet person.
I wanted her to live so badly. I was devastated when she died. Almost 20 years later this episode breaks my heart. But as Kellie says, what a way to go...I mean if they're gonna kill you off, might as well make it memorable!
I’m watching ER now and these episodes were incredible. I love how Kellie didn’t bring up Noah’s treatment of her but he did with sincerity. I’m thinking he’s been on other sets where he wasn’t the big dog and maybe he was treated crappy?! Hmm. But, life is about learning and growing.
the one that always gets me choked up is the episode with the wife who delivers a baby and there are complications after the birth and she dies. As a husband and father this always hits me hard.
I just finished watching all 15 seasons of ER during lockdown (I'd seen the show as a teen but not all seasons) and these episodes remains among the most shocking. The way this storyline led to Carter's addiction was masterful and raw. I remember getting chills when he sees Lucy on the floor. I'm a big medical series fan and also love Grey's Anatomy but this show was so much grittier somehow, even with GA's most shocking and devastating events. Dr Carter is one of my favourites and I wish he'd been on every episode.
These two episodes DEVISTATED me. I couldn’t imagine the show without “Lucy”. She wasn’t on the show long enough for me. I loved her character. So thankful “Carter” survived even though his life was totally changed.
Lucy's character annoyed me SO MUCH in the beginning and then she started to grow on me so it was even more shocking and sad to see her on the floor and then everything they did to save her had me 😭😭😭😭😭😭
I’m currently going through the entire series for the 3rd time, and I just finished the All In the Family episode. No show has ever evoked more emotion for me than ER; the absolute best show in television history in my humble opinion.

I remember this episode it was so heartbreaking. Talk about professional, Kellie Martin had to work with someone very closely who seems like he was a jerk. The rocky relationship never showed on screen, their chemistry was off the charts. She never told Noah Wylie was going on in her personal life, rather came to work and did her job. She was even gracious about her exit and saying goodbye to him, this interview is a first start but he definitely owes her an apology in real life. I hope he gave her one.

I only had the opportunity to meet Noah in person twice (his family were close friends with a friend of mine) and for a few hours at most, but it was not long after he hit his peak of fame. I’ve met other actors during that time in their lives and it’s amazing how quickly their feeling of entitlement grows. However, for Noah being the age he was and on a hit show he had such a grounded and easygoing presence about him. Granted, he was with his parents during a family event, but I recall him downplaying much of his recent success. I’ve been told and he admitted himself that he felt superior oftentimes, but that was never the impression he gave me during the two times we spoke in passing. I’m glad to see that he’s acknowledging his past mistakes because he is a great actor and a very kind hearted person from a lovely family.
ER was an amazing show with so much great work. With that said, the two episodes are so intense and my favorites as far as the acting goes. I just saw them recently on a channel that plays an ER marathon everyday. When I saw that those episodes were on, I made sure I had the time to sit down and really watch.
"All in the family" is the most heart touching episode in tv-history. I was completely finished when I saw this episode for the first time back in 2001 (germany). Every time it has the same impact to me.
I rewatched er last summer with my sixteen year old daughter. I remember feeling so sad at the prisoner of what was to happen. I never let on though, and my daughter who loves the show sobbed along with me when Lucy died. Especially Romano’s despair after realising it was over and she was dead. The used all their capabilities.........
I'm disappointed to learn Noah wasn't nice to his co-stars. That kind of hurts my perception of him because I didn't know that, but at least he admits it now. Kelli Martin seems like a great person and I loved her character. And yes, all these years later, this is still a massively impactful story arc.
Yeah I feel sililarly torn for Peter Bentons character and actor. I forget where i saw this now, but when I watched ER as a teen I never liked Peter Bentons character, he seemed so harsh and just not very nice, but on the contrary the actor in real life seemed very nice so that was nice to see😊
@@LouiseHultcrantz Benton definitely softened up and grew as the show went along. He always put his patients first despite how they felt about him. He just wanted to be the best surgeon possible so initially he lacked a lot of empathy but after Reese came into the picture his character became better. I think I most identify with Luca. All the characters were deeply human and flawed to varying degrees. Kerry Weaver was not likable but she wanted power. Dr Greene was probably the most clear headed doctor on the show until he got sick. Romano was irredeemably awful 9/10 times. He showed kindness rarely but I liked that he stuck to the character because there are people who are mean almost all the time in life and he reflected that. Luca was the most emotional doctor on the show and I liked that he was given that PTSD arc with the priest.
25 years later and this episode still rocks me to my core. I became an ER nurse 9 years later. Everything about this episode is perfection; the writing, the direction, and of course the performances; from the principal actors down to the actor that played Paul Sobriki. A true masterclass.
Kellie, You were missed after this episode. You brought a lot to the show. I hope all has gone well forbyou. You were not only a good actress, but beautiful as well.
john roe those are great ones as well. Rampage from season 7 was very good due to the tension throughout. One of the final great episodes as well in my opinion, as the show went downhill the following season, especially after Anthony Edwards left.
After so many years, I still think it was a big mistake. The character Lucy had so much potential, especially as the chemistry between Carter and Lucy was magical. The other women, in my opinion, were terrible next to Carter. I would still cry doll when I see this episode again should see. Just sad.
I agree. Abby was a disaster, a destroyer of good men. Didn't much care for the woman he married either. Lucy would've been great. At least they really gave her a great send-off
It’s cool to get a little inside look at something like this that we’d have never known. This show is so fantastic. You really care about all of the people they put on the screen. Caring about what you’re watching is what makes any show show great.
Be Still My Heart and All in the Family were the hardest episodes for me because of Carter and Lucy getting stabbed. I binge watched the whole series on Hulu last year and it was quite the experience. When I first saw the episodes mentioned above, I prayed for both Carter and Lucy to live. I was relieved when Carter survived but i was heartbroken when Lucy died. Saddest moment in TV history. Aside from being sad about Lucy dying and Carter suffering survivor's guilt episodes later, i still continued on with the show.
For some reason I never thought John and Lucy had great chemistry together (although I liked both characters)..Now I see why..It seems like Noah didn't like her in real life....(Wow! I thought they were supposed to leave their EGOs at the door)
I think he is saying something different, that they felt everybody should give as much as them to the show and you needed to prove yourself and probably she wasn't completely focused on the beginning and he was hard on her
A dramatic and memorable exit from a hit show can sometimes bring a huge silver lining to an actor's career path. She is the perfect example. Her character is so memorable, so intact, so embedded, so stapled.
I remember watching this. I so sad & heart broken. Lucy was one of my favourite characters ever. I cried, I couldn’t believe they killed her off like that. Next to Dr Ross & Carol, who are also my favourites.
More people watched final episode of Anthony Edwards as Dr Greene and episode when talk about his death when Dr Carter reads the letter then when Dr Ross left the show.
BLIND EYES, CHOOSING JOI, THE STORM PART 1 AND THE STORM PART 2 WERE EPIC!!! LET´S NOT FORGET THE EPISODE WHEN JOHN CARTER PUNCHES BENTON AND THEN HE HUGS HIM!!!
ER is great. I spent my first year of uni binge watching it on my phone. I was crazy upset when they killed Lucy, she was so nice and innocent and great.
those two eps were probably the best in the entire show imo. lucy was kind of annoying at first, but i really thought she would become a regular on the show, didn't see this coming AT ALL. also, sad to hear some people on set, including noah, weren't too nice to her, esp after what was going on in her personal life, she really seems like a nice person.
I have the exact age of Kellie Martin, I remember those days watching ER and I was so in love with the character (plus I had a big crush with Abby Lockheart). When Lucy died I was so shocked I even failed an exam in college...oh those younger days!
you would think that 'battleflag' by lo fidelity allstars would be a song i wouldn't be able to listen to, but it actually became and still is one of my top favorite songs, as hard as that was to watch.
I saw this episode with my sister. She had no clue what was coming, I heard just a few rumors and kinda new what was coming. Nethertheless we both were shell-shocked afterwards ...
I remember watching this when it aired! It was so sad 😭😭😭. Like the fact that he had the integrity to admit that he wasn't always nice to her, you can see he does regret it. Would be better if he apologized to her directly though:)
But that way she could have a moment with her co-stars and not just be unconscious. Seeing her realizing her own diagnosis, it was such a great performance.
Hmmm I could've done without knowing that he wasn't always nice to her...I mean when a new person comes on wouldn't you want to lead them and show them how it's done?
Lubbylove89 Unfortunately in the entertainment business even people who may have been raised to exhibit kind behavior find themselves sucked into the fear of not being #1 or jealous of others prior achievements or threatened by others talent and thus question their own abilities.
iloveperfume I can respect him for saying that, but respect Kelly more for the opportunity to throw Noah in a bad light-based off of truth-and chose otherwise.
Just the type of guy who isn't a leader. Instead of taking her under his wing and showing her the ropes, he's jealous that she got an episode dedicated to her when she started.
That was my show when I was younger. Sigh and I cried and cried and cried because of that show. I also had pulmonary embolism that just makes me so sad.
Never watched ER again on a regular basis after they killed of her character. She was such a brilliant actress - so many different storylines could have been given to her.
What an absolute shame that Noah, who is also older than her, treated her so terribly. When she was just a kid coming into an already established show with really big actors. Shame on him. Glad he feels bad for his actions. Hopefully he apologized her face.
He acts like Kellie was a newbie actor. She led the cast of a popular show as a kid, and has done a LOT by the time she was on ER. Sounds like a toxic set.
today is my 35th birthday today and this scene is still burnt in my brain after all these years. i will never forget it and the reactions of me and my family's stone cold silents afterwards
Those two episodes are the most powerfully dramatic highlights that of a show that ranks closely with The Rains of Castamere in Game of Thrones and a tragedy that we could never see Lucy grow into a full-fledged doctor and see how she'd work with the likes of Pratt, Neela, Ray, Sam, and Morris to whom I'm sure she would have made a fun spirited colleague and a pain in the ass.
I’ve coded a colleague before. While this show missed a lot of realistic stuff, the reactions to the initial trauma and the code were pretty damn close.
Sad that he admits he wasn't always kind. That however is not surprising - watch his episode of "Who do you think you are". He comes across very badly.
Someone sounds a bit jealous. lol Noah must of got use to being the baby of the show, and here comes Kellie out the gate with a episode dedicated to her already. He may of been snappy I think cause of it, but its good he realize that and I hope he smoothed things over with her. This been so long ago, but it helps to write the wrongs of the past.
WinterMoon 801 yeah he said in a separate interview that he wasn’t very welcoming to Kellie or Goran; he saw him as competition, but that he has since apologised to both

When it aired, it was like a gut punch. I still get remnants of that by watching this clip
I forget where i saw this now, but when I watched ER as a teen I never liked Peter Bentons character, he seemed so harsh and just not very nice, but on the contrary the actor in real life seemed very nice so that was nice to see😊
@@LouiseHultcrantz Eriq also played that jerk on Coming to America, so I think he was a bit type cast.
@@ire1398 Soul-Glo boy was such an asshole. LOL
He was young, and by all accounts he learned and got much kinder to his costars.
This was one of those times where you watch a fictional show and you just have to remind yourself that it's not real. Very sad episode.
I remember being distraught at this episode. It stayed with me for days.
Days? Years for me. I still cry at the thought of Lucy passing away
When she imitates Alex Kingston :D
IKR! I kept rewinding. It was absolutely brill!
I started watching ER again on Pop. Omgosh that show is absolutely fantastic. I laugh and cry. The actors are so wonderful. Love that show.
I cried my heart out. My mum wondered what had happened I was so distraught
Rebecca Elliott 😂😂😂
Lol i always wondered if she realized now she had everybody crying their eyes out when this happened
Those two episodes were the best in the entire series.
impasse0124 Yeah, they were intense episodes. Kudos to everyone involved 🤗🤗🤗
Who said only 2?? Love labor lost, and hell and high water!!!
john roe those are great ones as well. Rampage from season 7 was very good due to the tension throughout. One of the final great episodes as well in my opinion, as the show went downhill the following season, especially after Anthony Edwards left.
EXODUS, THE STORM 1 AND 2!!! LOVE LABOR LOST, FATHERS AND SONS!!! WOW!!! SO MANY GOOD MEMORIES!!!
One of the best shows of all time.
I recently have been watching this on the Pop channel and I so wanted these 2 to be together, I bawled my eyes out when she died
Omfg....the song that played when that scene went down was sheer brilliance
And the way they use it again when Carter sees that patient who stabbed them a couple of seasons later - just iconic.
I remember this scene well and it was a very good one. thanks, Kelly for your part still love your movies today.
One of the many OMG WHAT JUST HAPPENED SCENES of ER!! Loved the writing and characters! Up there with NYPD BLUE💜
After so many years, I still think it was a big mistake. The character Lucy had so much potential, especially as the chemistry between Carter and Lucy was magical. The other women, in my opinion, were terrible next to Carter. I would still cry doll when I see this episode again should see. Just sad.
But you don't get it. Kellie Martin wanted to leave
Cindy K. Noah Wyle wasn't very nice to Kellie in real life.
Beautiful Angel No one is talking about them in real life-they were amazing characters regardless
I agree. Abby was a disaster, a destroyer of good men. Didn't much care for the woman he married either. Lucy would've been great. At least they really gave her a great send-off
Yes, sad that she wanted to leave.
It’s cool to get a little inside look at something like this that we’d have never known. This show is so fantastic. You really care about all of the people they put on the screen. Caring about what you’re watching is what makes any show show great.
I was so excited when Kellie joined the cast and I knew she’d be amazing because she always is. Then they did this and I was legitimately shaken.
One of the best episodes ever!!!! I love when Romano says: "Son Of A Bitch!!!" And both; him and Corday stood there quietly for a while!!!
His voice cracks and he throws the tray…then wants to attempt resuscitation😭😭😭😭
For some reason I never thought John and Lucy had great chemistry together (although I liked both characters)..Now I see why..It seems like Noah didn't like her in real life....(Wow! I thought they were supposed to leave their EGOs at the door)
I think he is saying something different, that they felt everybody should give as much as them to the show and you needed to prove yourself and probably she wasn't completely focused on the beginning and he was hard on her
I loved their chemistry. It was like an older brother and a pesky little sister. Perfect.
One of the best scenes on TV
Awe Alex, bless!
she got so upset over this and losing Mark, she ended up running away to the vast universe and falling in love with a mad man in a blue box!
I was in college, and I remember throwing the remote down at my little fridge under my desk. I was in a state of disbelief and angry.
I still think Lucy and Carter we're meant to be... #heartbroken
Noah hated the actress in real life
@@Truth72500 Really??
@@TheMaan2008 sadly yes
Great episode!!!!!
More people watched this episode than did George Clooney's final one.
More people watched final episode of Anthony Edwards as Dr Greene and episode when talk about his death when Dr Carter reads the letter then when Dr Ross left the show.
Loved the way he saved a boy
@@blessedtrinity9664 That was a good episode.
BLIND EYES, CHOOSING JOI, THE STORM PART 1 AND THE STORM PART 2 WERE EPIC!!!
LET´S NOT FORGET THE EPISODE WHEN JOHN CARTER PUNCHES BENTON AND THEN HE HUGS HIM!!!
I hated her death on the show the most, she was legit my favorite character
Loved this video! These 2 episodes are my favorite of all of E.R.
Just watched this episode yesterday. Haunting. I'm glad Kellie was able to leave on her own terms.
I saw the show on TikTok and I had to watch it and I saw this episode and I was in tears😭😭😭
My God I loved loved that show. I'm still rewatching the the series on Hulu
Scott Wheeler It's also on POP TV, I'm switching back and forth. I went back to the beginning on Hulu and acting later one's on PP
Me, too. One of the best TV shows ever. Nothing currently on TV can even come close.
Kellie Martin you are such a talented actress! I know whatever show/movie that you are on will be worth viewing.
I remember watching this when it aired! It was so sad 😭😭😭. Like the fact that he had the integrity to admit that he wasn't always nice to her, you can see he does regret it. Would be better if he apologized to her directly though:)
I would guess that he already has.
From what I understand he did and also to Goran, because he was a dick to him too.
Loved and hated this episode. Kellie Martin♥️
ER and Third Watch. Best TV-shows ever made.
Third Watch is my personal favorite.
I'm with you!!!!! 🌼🌷
loved 3rd watch as well
@@tonipaulson692 ESPECIALLY THE CROSS OVER EPISODE WITH DR. LEWIS DESPERATELY LOOKING FOR LITTLE SUZIE, THAT WAS INCREDIBLE!!!
This episode devastated me, Kellie was my favorite actress at the time from Life Goes On
i hated the way they killed lucy off. she lives through the surgery and dies afterward. so sad.
But that way she could have a moment with her co-stars and not just be unconscious. Seeing her realizing her own diagnosis, it was such a great performance.
I saw a few episodes of her on that show. I stumbled across tgis particular episode and it was so sad. Gut wrenching.
Hmmm I could've done without knowing that he wasn't always nice to her...I mean when a new person comes on wouldn't you want to lead them and show them how it's done?
I'm surprised he admited that, but I respected him for the fact that he did. He didn't gloss over it and pretended to be something he wasn't.
Lubbylove89 Unfortunately in the entertainment business even people who may have been raised to exhibit kind behavior find themselves sucked into the fear of not being #1 or jealous of others prior achievements or threatened by others talent and thus question their own abilities.
Barbara Burgio I can see why a young actor who lucked out and ended up on a massive tv show would get an ego
iloveperfume
I can respect him for saying that, but respect Kelly more for the opportunity to throw Noah in a bad light-based off of truth-and chose otherwise.
Just the type of guy who isn't a leader. Instead of taking her under his wing and showing her the ropes, he's jealous that she got an episode dedicated to her when she started.
ughghgh when this aired, I only saw a couple minutes of it and it haunted me for a year until I caught the reruns.
That was my show when I was younger. Sigh and I cried and cried and cried because of that show. I also had pulmonary embolism that just makes me so sad.
i still get chills watching this, more than 20 years later, i was a 10 yo kid so i was so f shocked
I really like these episodes. I hated losing Lucy though.
Those two episodes are the most powerfully dramatic highlights that of a show that ranks closely with The Rains of Castamere in Game of Thrones and a tragedy that we could never see Lucy grow into a full-fledged doctor and see how she'd work with the likes of Pratt, Neela, Ray, Sam, and Morris to whom I'm sure she would have made a fun spirited colleague and a pain in the ass.
oh ugh! gotta go back and rewatch it all again LOL
I’ve coded a colleague before. While this show missed a lot of realistic stuff, the reactions to the initial trauma and the code were pretty damn close.
I remember watching that episode. This was very sad 😢
Sad that he admits he wasn't always kind. That however is not surprising - watch his episode of "Who do you think you are". He comes across very badly.
ShiningStar77 What'd he do?
Someone sounds a bit jealous. lol
Noah must of got use to being the baby of the show, and here comes Kellie out the gate with a episode dedicated to her already.
He may of been snappy I think cause of it, but its good he realize that and I hope he smoothed things over with her.
This been so long ago, but it helps to write the wrongs of the past.
WinterMoon 801 yeah he said in a separate interview that he wasn’t very welcoming to Kellie or Goran; he saw him as competition, but that he has since apologised to both
Best episode EVER
BE STILL THY HEART AND ALL IN THE FAMILY WAS HEART BREAKING AND CRYING AND SHOCKING TO DR. CARTER DID NOT TREAT LUCY THAT GOOD
Still can't believe it was the most viewed episode of the show! just shy of 40 million views.
My favorite show ever.
ER Una de mis series preferidas y Sigo recordando a Lucy y lo que tanto dolió que saliera de la serie así!! 😢me impactó su muerte!!
i loved Lucy so much, I wish she had stayed til the end of the show! she was brilliant!!
er came on tv and it came on before grey's anatomy. and a lot of episodes we see of grey's we saw before on er, and they were the best. my hat's off to everyone on er
This was a really difficult episode for this nurse to watch.
That episode was brutal.
I love ER, i bought the box set, i treasure it.
Hated seeing Lucy go but it was a great story line.
