I have a 2003 Rav4 without AC. I was able to change out the thermostat without having to do anything with the alternator. there was plenty of room to access the two nuts and pull the thermostat housing off.
Even tho this was over a year ago, I can't help but to say that the T5 you used to get the housing back on, if removed in the beginning you would have never needed to move the alternator. Just seems that way to me. I don't think many ppl have that T5 inverted socket with all that said, thank you for the video, always helps to see what we are getting into before taking useless parts=time saved and money!
Im doing this right now - i removed the bolts + studs (accessed bottom bolt via bottom of car), came onto youtube to check it out what the proper way todo it was cause the housing fouls on the a/c pipe!!! sooooo close, yet sooooo far! mfker! ok, i gotta get back to it. alternator out time.
Wonderful video and explanation, i have a Toyota Gaia 2001 (Japanese domestic car) same engine as the Toyota Rav4 2001, this was very helpful because i had to change the thermostat, i took out the alternator completely so i could clean around that area, thanks for the wonderful video, keep up the good work 😃
Very thorough. ... And realizing very frustrating. It "looked" like it was going to be a 10 minute, 2-nut job. Thank you. I really appreciate the attention to detail with the air bleed positioning.
Robby Gray glad the video helped. I have lots of Toyota repair videos on my RUclips channel and on my website www.howtoautomotive.com/ if you need more help . Thank you for watching!

Very cool video you make it look pretty easy.
Thank you. I need to do this on my 2001 RAV4 at some point because I'm getting a P0128 engine code.
For the BOTTOM housing nut, could you also use a 10mm ratchet with a U-joint and 4-6" extension, to loosen it from out in front of the housing?
Thanks for the help Brian.
Thanks a million, excellent video .
Thank you best video yet..
Great job excellent detail
Do you recommend replacing the serpentine belt if it's got a few micro-cracks?

them nuts should be torqued to 10 foot pounds no more then that. Them nuts are aluminum . Not hard to pull the threads out.
Which engine? 2nd generations have 3 gas and 1 diesel.
Makes all the difference.
👍
Haha underneath the alternator . 353 fantastic buddy keep at it. 👍👍
