Fergie Vs Wenger will never be surpassed. It was a proper rivalry with enough needle between the teams to make a story.

It has been an absolutely brilliant rivalry here in England. Klopp has literally beaten Guardiola EIGHT times to that latter's six wins against Liverpool since 2016, one of which was after Klopp had already won the Premiership at a canter in 2020. There is quite a bit of ignorance and Twitter talk on here if people don't think that the Big German has been an amazing rival to Pep. 🤔

This is the laziest argument trotted out in the Pep v Klopp debate. Acting like Klopp didn't spend money to win the league or was doing it on a shoe string budget while he dropped a world record transfer fee for a defender. Pep did have more money, there's no doubt about that, but acting like Klopp is better than him purely because of the money is such a lazy argument. And it's one that can never be proven either because Klopp and Pep can't suddenly switch places just to test out your theory.

@@justexisting7143 Not going to argue with you about the cheating, City should be deducted points and fined and whether or not Pep knew about that (I imagine he at least had some idea, he's not stupid) doesn't change the fact that they cheated. It's not match fixing, Pep still has to win the games, but yeah I'm in agreement with you on this point.
However, you say 'it's not about the money' yet you brought up the money when you said Pep is 'throwing money for players'. You also state that 'I'm not saying Klopp is better' despite earlier saying 'things klopp did, no one else can' which outright implies that you think Klopp is better. Don't be a coward about it, if you think Klopp is better make an interesting point about it; you can't just run away from your earlier arguments.

Oli hits on a key point - but its not really so much style/quality but character at Liverpool. Tthe biggest veto is if there's any indication that the player won't get on in the dressing room, etc. This is why there's never been any nonsense in the public about what goes on with the players. They've all bought in and there's no chance of a Juan Cancelo or Laporte situation happening there.

Absolutely that! Those big Arsenal - Man Utd matches were more often scraps and attritional battles rather than beautiful games. Ferguson was a brilliant man manager, leader and father figure but he was a relatively poor tactician against proper teams. 🤔 Man Utd would routinely steamroller the bottom teams, spank the mid-table sides and scrape a point against their rivals. Fergie was definitely more positive than 'Maureen' but was often found out in matches against weaker rival teams who had inferior players. Some people are focusing on just the Premier League Pep Vs Klopp clashes, but their Champions League games were sublime.

@@Do27gg Even if that's true, I think it misses what fundamentally makes a rivalry great. Sure quality is part of it, but you need competitors who are evenly matched, a great rivalry has back and forth, and most importantly it has an emotional heart that makes victory mean something more than simple professional pride and I just don't think that applies to Klopp and Guardiola the way it does to some of the rivalries of yesteryear.
Perhaps I am merely nostalgic for the era of my youth, but the modern game is by all accounts sanitised compared to 20 years ago. (as much as the same was true 20 years ago about the football 40 years ago).
And mostly that is a good thing. It is good that there's less toxicity in the game, that people are more amenable, and that there's more congeniality in the game in general. But the flip side of that is that the professionalism necessarily requires a degree more emotional detachment.

During most of Klopp's tenure, liverpool were only the 3rd most successful team in PL. They only overtook Chelsea by winning the EFL cup this years. Yes thats correct, the circus at chelsea had won more trophies than klopp from 2016 to Jan-2024.
This doesn't even come close to Ferguson-Wenger rivalry.

Klopp is a top manager. But with only a single league title, and finishing 8th, 4th, 4th, 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 5th (three excellent seasons from eight, and probably four from nine including this season)… I wouldn’t put this anywhere near the greatest managerial rivalry. Mourinho/Wenger would be third, and Mourinho/Fergie is second.
He took over a conference level Liverpool and completed club football. Pep has never achieved anything like that. Don’t forget what klopp did at Dortmund and Mainz

Look, I wish my team had landed him before he went to Liverpool. They’ve been to two CL finals and won one of those. He broke the league duck after so many years. These are great achievements. And Liverpool are exciting to watch.

Fergie and Wenger are a distant front two, then Mourinho, then Pep (with an asterisk). Klopp can’t get into this bracket for two reasons - only one title, and hasn’t retained it.

Liverpool and city are the most two that competed against each other and same as arsenal and united, united and Liverpool is a trophies competition to take over the king of England spot but the two rarely competed directly against each other
Liverpool/city titles races are not only a 2014 upward thing, it started in the late 60s and 70s and it was identical but reversed, Liverpool most of the league trophies and it was mostly against man city, city have caused Liverpool to lose some league titles even back then, winning one and defeating Liverpool some other times to cause the title to go to someone else and then the two teams started falling down although man city much faster due to the unbelievable corruption of the board and caused the club to absolutely sink

No where near is a wrong choice of words. Do you just look at the list of league winners? Go look at the tables. How many times Liverpool fell short by 1 or 2 pts. What is the head-to-head record? Even Guardiola admitted Klopp is his greatest nemesis. The only difference between these two teams is the spending power and one of the teams is rigging the FFP rules and it’s not Liverpool.

Hence Pep is more often than not having to compete with other managers/clubs for the title.
For reference, the PE teacher Ole have an average finish of 2.5 in his full seasons.
So yeah, Klopp has had a few good seasons, but they haven’t been in the race for even 3 seasons in a row. I mean, they’ve only finished top 2 3 times in 8 years.
