In some ways, at 61, I am jealous of the plethora of info people, especially those starting out, have on playing the six string. On the other hand, all we had were our ears. Nothing gave me more satisfaction than going to see a “big name band” and seeing I had worked it out correctly on my own. Yes, we emulated the harp, although not always effectively, and the saxophone, among others. Great video! This channel deserves far more subscribers. Thank you.
Yes I know what you mean. I learned to play by watching Lindsay Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac) on a video tape! But to be fair i also had a great guitar teacher in my teens. Glad you are enjoying the videos Jim.
Hi Darren, great lesson, thanks for the focus on embellishing the basic blues progression into a rich musical landscape. I especially like the section walking-up a scale with chords. I'm studying chord scales and how to use them. I'm hoping it will open insight into finding novel progressions that work in a key. I think basic blues is the building block to so much really good music!
Thank you, You can do a lot of cool stuff with harmonized scales, and then when you mix in the in-between chords like the diminished 7th's, things get really interesting! Appreciate you watching!
Wow. I've heard a few people that could be really expressive on their guitar, as in making it sound like other instruments, but mostly they did it with electronics. You have surely mastered at least a few! You've got my attention! When i first started playin' guitar, ppl said i had a "golden ear," I'm assuming because i could learn songs, riffs, even chords by ear, and never miss a note. (I also know one guy who played with a band, who said it meaning my rhythm was good. Actually, i think he mesnt "playing in the pocket.") But there's even more to it, it's like i also have different instruments playin' in me 'ead. An' i wanna make me guitah sound that way. Y'know? And that's where you come in! I wanna learn to sound like those instruments like what you're talkin' 'bout. I can do like a human voice, and a set o' horns, or at least kinda approximate it. (It don't ever really sound like neither, but it's the mimickry--i think ppl think of those instruments when they hear you play that way.) Y'know what i mean. Anywoot, I'm gonna learn from you. 🤪 Thanks! Great stuff, all right. 👍. 👌
You are Darrel Higham aren't you ? I recently found your instructional stuff on You Tube and have subscribed. A lot of the stuff I've been playing for years now makes more sense, and a lot more is now coming in to the light. Keep it coming....
That would be me. My actual name is Darren Clarke. The channel is Everglades Rhythm which is the band I play guitar in- check out our volumes of instrumentals on the streaming platforms- just changed my tag to @everGuitar to help people find the channel easier since the content I'm doing here is allllllll guitar and a bit of rock and roll history.
