The most mind-blowing thing about this extraordinary song is that it was recorded in one take. When I saw someone make this claim in a comment on YT, I was sceptical, but I've looked it up, and yes, this was a single take 😮

    • @elliottcovert3796

Just incredible. Legend has it that some of the band members thought they were just doing the song as a warm-up and didn't realize they were being recorded. What an amazingly talented band.

I can believe that the full band basic track was live, but there had to be overdubbing because there's a third guitar (a second rhythm guitar) throughout the middle part of the song.

What a gem you've got here. This is the prototypical 80s punk with song to song excellence. Television's sound can be heard in a lot of bands that came after them. They only put out three albums, but for my money, this album alone cements their place in rock history.

This song is also from the world of punk music, it would be considered post-punk. You might be confused by all these "post" modifiers on genres, but what it means, more or less, is that it took the basic ideas of punk music, and added in other styles of music and expression to create punk music that is more sophisticated and emotionally complex

@@stevewebster973 exactly. This is part of what “punk” in the general sense should have been about. The term really took off after a British journalist came over to the states to see what all the hype surrounding CBGBS was about. Somehow the UK took it to mean the fashion and The Ramones were what punk should be. Fuck Malcom Mclaren and his stupid bondage shop. Punk should be doing what you want how you want not exclusively Mohawks and safety pins and leather jackets and poorly played instruments with snarled vocals. or whatever. This is my gate and I’m keeping it.

I would run into Verlaine downtown in late 90's and into the 2000's Always a friendly chat at the Strand Book Annex when I worked there, or the Coffee Shop on University.. I would, from time to time ask him if he knew Daniel Fichelscher's guitar work on

One of my favorite tracks of all time. Back in my high school days (late 70s), we would have student play music during our lunch hour in a common area. Each day there would be a different DJ play different music genres. This one guy would play Marquee Moon on occasion and I would tune out my friends and just lose myself in it. I should have approached that guy to find out what the name of the track & artist was, but I never did. Took me over a decade to find it and I've owned it ever since.
