I requested Steve Oto to be my friend on Facebook....but it was a Wednesday, so I am sure I have been blacklisted. once again thanks for making this!
EVERY comic shop has their version of Jeff Hwuang...the guy you see coming and think "Oh here we go..." and yet there's the part of you that's also excited because you know you're in for a trip. But I'm pretty sure there's only ONE Jeff Hwuang. The others are cheap knock-offs. I'm HIGHLY enjoying this. Thank you so much.

I'm really enjoying this documentary. Loved hearing from all the disengaged partners lol. I'm into comics more than the average person, that being said, I have a relatively small collection that's easily packed away into a cupboard. I used to feel the need to display my collections (I used to have an unhealthy interest in transformers), but I'm in a much happier place where I'm able to enjoy things without having to buy it all. I'll read stories online for free while still having the books that really mean something to me sentimentally - such as all the spiderman comics I began buying from my local newsagent in 1996 and 1997. People rag on John Romita jr and sr, but I have such fond memories of those comics. I'll throw my two cents in here: if your wife is telling you, you spend too much, you should at least have a mature conversation about finances as a couple. By joking about it and saying you're not drinking, gambling or smoking diminishes the impact that addictive spending has on people's lives. If it got so bad that negative consequences were a result, ie. Unhappy family life, negative moods because "you couldn't fit in enough comic reading hours" each month etc, then this "harmless" activity is now a harmful addiction. Thanks again for creating this doco. Really interesting take on this special interest group.
Really enjoyed the documentary. Just a gem. Jeff Wong is my favorite part. His lies are epic and he may be telling the truth. Hahaha! Just fantastic. Thanks for making the film. It took me back to my days at my favorite comic shops.
Watched this twice now which is something I rarely do with documentaries. Have to applaud this man , both as a comic book fan and a film student really well put together and really captures the culture of places like this. Leaves me wishing this store was in my neighbourhood :)
Wow. This is SO much like my life story from the past 32 years, it blows my mind!! LOL My oldest son commented on my FB page, where I shared this, that SKO is the Asian (version of) me. I own Comic World in Largo, Florida. I started out part time for store credit in August 1982, on payroll October 1982, became full time in December 1982, and bought the shop ten years later in December 1992. And I'm still here ... kicking, though alive is questionable. ;-) Congrats on this incredible documentary that I so VERY much identified with, and appreciate. I laughed, applauded throughout, and seriously made my (2nd) wife raise an eyebrow a couple of times in my direction. She runs the store with me. (My 1st marriage was somewhat a casualty of the store -- she hated the place -- but I met my 2nd wife *through* the store, so I lucked out!) Steve, I'm sure you'll see this: we had our own customer with 'Tall Tales', who claimed to have invented the character Nova. He said Stan Lee personally came to his house and paid him off in the 1970's because Marvel stole the character from him. The guy who ran the shop with me, this was before I bought it, christened this guy "Nova Man". Nova Man would go on to tell us how he had guarded the alien bodies under the Pentagon, how he'd been a US Navy Seal, how he'd been in the movie "The Final Countdown" as a karate instructor (because he could kill men with two blows), and that he had directed Leonard Nimoy off-Broadway. Good times! LOL God bless you guys, every one of you! May all of you, and Alternate Realities -- cliché as it may sound -- live long and prosper, from one comic shop to another!! Fantastic!! Thank you, Anthony, and everyone at Alternate Realities!!
Patrick, thank you very much for your note! I'm glad you enjoyed the documentary and found it so relatable. Sounds like your journey has been similar to Steve's, right down to your very own Jeff Hwang! I'll be sure to share this with Steve. Thanks again! I really appreciate the kind words.

Anthony Desiato OH! YES!! That would be epic. I would love to see that. At the least, we need his adventures depicted in a web comic. I can help you promote it! The first 25 pages could be the 25 kills he's had in the line of duty! Hahaha!!

They went out of business a year after the documentary. I hope you are MORE successful.
This is awesome. Very hard to find comic book shops here in Kenya. Lots of book shops and libraries but very few comic book stores if any and very hard to find.
Thanks for checking it out! Sorry to hear that comic shops are hard to come by. Hopefully you got to experience some of it through the movie!
Great job on this documentary. Its a good eye opener for those who decide to buy digital copies over the real McCoy and miss opportunities to make new friends :)
Thanks! Much appreciated.
Nice work, man.
Much appreciated! Thanks for checking out the doc.
Thanks for inviting us in.
Worth Watching.
Thanks for checking it out!
Jeff Wong, a legend in his own mind, the most delusional dude of all time, he is certifiable. 😅

Awesome movie
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
So great! Well done documentary! If i'm ever in Scarsdale there is one place i'm sure to stop. What Camera or Camera's did you use? Terrific terrific work - I certainly hope this won't be your last film!
Thank you very much--that really means a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed the doc, and I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. I shot the movie on a Canon HV40. Here's my site if you're interested in checking out my upcoming films: www.flatsquirrelproductions.com. Cheers!
Awesome! Glad to hear that you've got more upcoming I'll definitely support them! Cheers!
Any plans to do a follow up mini-doc on Steve and the people featured in this? That would be great!
Thanks for the interest! Have you seen my most recent film, MY COMIC SHOP COUNTRY? www.amazon.com/Comic-Shop-Country-Jermaine-Exum/dp/B085GJXDST
Will there be a "10 years later"? :)
This documentary appeared on my favourite torrent website and I tried to download for 7 days straight but I was stuck at 90.1% endlessly. And now that I found it and watched it, I want more!!!
Love from a Comic book lover from Switzerland!

@@AnthonyDesiato hey! no, but now I will! Thanks!
@@AnthonyDesiato Sadly, I'm in the UAE and can't access it on Amazon :(
Awesome Doc. Well shot. Great story. What's the story on the chick with the sleeve? She is beautiful.
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the film. (As for the interviewee in question, she is happily married. I will pass along your compliment!)
I miss my wife
10/10 👏🔥
Would it be possible to get a Jeff Hwang highlight reel? I believe it could go viral, haha! He's awesome.
Not a bad idea! Truthfully, what I would love to do (if I had the capability) is an animated series based on his exploits.
Anthony Desiato OH! YES!! That would be epic. I would love to see that. At the least, we need his adventures depicted in a web comic. I can help you promote it! The first 25 pages could be the 25 kills he's had in the line of duty! Hahaha!!
Jason Williams Hmmm, a web comic would definitely be more doable...
“Pickup a cake and eat one!” We’ve all been there.
Alan Ford is my first comic...
Thanks for checking out & sharing the movie!

Pleasure is all mine! I enjoyed it.
I love it.
The song at 19:14 reminds me of "Demons of the Night" by Demoniac.

Every store catering to any kind of nerd demographic has its own Jeff Hwang.
