*LOOKING FOR A BED SLIDE? Rockwood makes one nearly the same size with sliding bed here --> **ruclips.net/video/Zh-kWyBDwTc/видео.html*

It almost makes me want to change from the Cougar 25RES as my choice but I've yet to see a real 3,000lb hitch on the rear of any of the 1/2 ton Rockwoods. If I can't pull my motorcycle behind me, it's useless to me.

@@enjoytomorrowtoday Correct - not something they're doing currently. I don't have any update notes for future "generations," but it's certainly possible for them to upgrade to a towing hitch
Interestingly it's *literally* the same hitch on the back. It just doesn't have the wiring harness or safety chain hooks
but that changes its "classification" enough to be a disqualifier of course

@Angela H I work to keep our website as up to date as possible, but there's always a little exchange as stuff comes in and out. The very best way to know before making the trip is to give a team member a call and ask them to verify availability on a model or two in question.

This is my favorite 5th wheel right now. When the biggest complaint is the bathroom door that means the did a bang up job. I love the kitchen behind the rear axle to off set the weight added to the hitch by propane, batteries and closets up front. And you can still make it into most state parks. You probably only have 25’ behind the rear of the truck? This is on my short list for sure.

I would use that counter space for a toaster, coffee maker and kettle. We currently store these in the pantry when not in use as we have limited counter space in our Sunset Trail. As usual, Rockwood hits it out of the park for storage. I like the idea of a table and chairs, but I use all of my dinette storage so I wouldn't want to give that up. The entertainment layout is perfect.

Josh: WOW!! Impressive. While I’m no fan of slideouts, this is one of the best short 5th wheel trailers you’ve featured. Bed,head and mess and fridge all accessible in travel mode. Truck stop, rest stop and bigbox parking lot friendly without needing to deploy the slide outs. The 2445WS is the hands down winner over the 2442BS. Where was this when we looked at the Winnabago 2405

I like that you can access what you need to for a quick stop, or even overnight/daytime when on the road if you can't or don't want to let your slides out. I just wanted a small simple trailer, but my husband wants a 5th wheel for easy towing and we can easily tow this one so I guess I am ok with a short 5h wheel. I like the bedroom better in the other link so still torn as usual lol. When we do buy one, I should know everything there is to know about trailers and 5th wheels thanks to you Josh.

Lighter interior color is always good, but this color is about as light as you should get IMO. Storage/room, again, is always good to have and there is always some way to use it. Thank you very much for talking about the options available. That really helps when your painting a mental picture how a model works for you while we are watching the video. I would pick between the 2445WS and the 2442BS, this one would be it. But, in a perfect world I would have the rear of the 2445WB combined with the bedroom of the 2442BS.

Josh: First the compliments. Your reviews are hands down the best, most honest and entertaining in the universe. You most definitely would do well on the stand up comedy circuit, impeccable comedic timing! Second, your urging of caution about pulling a fifth wheel with a half ton is admirable. What I have seen on roads sometimes makes me shiver, dangerous overloading that unscrupulous dealers have allowed, even encouraged! You are a credit to your industry and there needs to be more like you.
Now having said that I was guilty of pulling a too large fiver with a half ton but came to realize how dangerous it was with my previous truck. We purchased a Rockwood 2512S Mini Lite and a GMC Sierra with the NHT max trailer package, 6.2L etc.. We absolutely miss the fifth wheel for so many reasons and I am very intrigued with the 2445 WS. The owners manual for my truck claims a fiver up to 11000 pounds can be towed so long as the pin weight does not exceed 1500 pounds. The truck has a payload of 2180 pounds.
My question: the literature claims a hitch weight of 1215 pound for the 2445WS. Is that based on empty weight or an assumed usable weight of the UVW and say 1000 pounds? The GMC manual says to allow for a pin weight of 15% to 25% of the actual trailer weight. At 25% no 1/2 ton and most 3/4 tons would be able to haul a fiver but the only way to know for sure is to weigh the truck and trailer, and that can't be done until after you buy it!
I would appreciate your insight into this as I would like to go back to a fiver and the 2445Ws sure looks great, but only if it's safe to do so!
Keep up the great reviews and thanks for doing them!

Josh, thank you so much for the insight of this 5th wheel. We have had for 3 years . Has worked for us very well. My wife is 5'3" not all cupboards are user for her. But overall solid constitution. Plumbing ,framework. Slam latch doors. The bed frame must be the best I ever saw. All others i saw are plywood and wood frame .Which can age or break quickly . The aluminum frame used in the bed and seating area by far better the some higher end model construction. The frameing ,plumbing, slam latches. We were looking for a shorter height 5th wheel . For more access to mountain site camping, ie: low trees wires and such. But didn't find one that equals .they either lack bed support or thin plywood platform. Few slam latches or none. plumbing levers ,pull handles that seemed more fragile. Made you wonder on the longevity of the unit. Thank you agin for all the in-depth reviews. 😎👍

I can see why this would be ideal for some people. It offers so much in a relatively small and attractive package.
The lighter tones give it a more open feeling, but I think it would be nicer (cozier) with some darker two-tone accents.
For me, the deal killer is s the position of the TV. I consider that _"neck-breaker"_ style. This got me thinking about an idea which could overcome this problem with this layout (and frankly, I'm surprised that nobody has thought if it, yet). Someone needs to develop an extending TV mounting arm for RV's, which not only extends outward and tilts Left/Right, but also rotate AND extend Up/Down. This would allow the TV to remain on it's side when in travel mode; and whenever anyone wants to watch TV, they merely pop it forward a few inches, rotate it 90° and position it at the appropriate eye level of your choosing.
I have another idea, which is a different take on an already nifty idea in use in some RV's.

We visited the Hershey RV Show, and out of all of the units we walked through (over 1100 on display) this was the one camper we walked in and went "yea, i could trade ours in for this". Low and behold a week later we were signing the papers. Awesome small package, very well thought out, tons of storage, awesome features, awesome build quality. Love the short 5th wheel, doesn't feel short at all with all of the height of the 5th wheel but tons more maneuverability compared to a similar length travel trailer (came from a 30' TT, this thing pulls and parks like a dream). Very well thought out floorplan to where you can actually use this unit if its closed up and you're making a pitstop (previous unit had opposing slides which completely closed off the living space/bathroom making it inaccessible). Overall in the 7 years I've owned my previous unit and visited the RV shows, nothing has made me give up my old unit until this one came into my life.

I love this floor plan and all of the features! Extra guest sleeping capacity, great travel access, the expanded solar option, 12volt fridge, the pantrytainment super center (👍🏻😂), etc.. Is Rockwood still making this model in 2022? I have no problem with the bathroom door being a hinged swing open door or the harder to reach kitchen cabinet storage, but it’s great that you go the extra uphill mile to provide that information! Thank you!

Good looking tint color on the Cabinets, and Frameless Windows. Nice pivot for the T.V., and Roller Shades. Magnet Holdback is a good idea too. I'd prefer a pocket door for the Bathroom also. Cool looking Nightstands, instead of hanging over the bed. Great Brand of tires too which, to me, is very important. Good one. Thanks.

What a great floor plan! Thanks for being so honest about the half ton towable issue. As another commenter mentioned, the roof looks a little sketch. Beginning at 19:42 there are already bubbles under the membrane. Perhaps it's the camera, but I would not take delivery of that if those are bubbles between the membrane and roof structure, leak paths waiting to happen. As far as the interior colors go I like it, but have to wonder if darker cabinet/door fronts contrasted against the lighter background would pop even more.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  3 года назад +1

Safety Before the Sale when it comes to towing! Regarding the roof bubbles -- This RV was literally fresh off the production line. Those bubbles are a result of off-gassing and *every RV has them when freshly built*.
The difference I think is we actually take you up on the roof where most don't. Give this RV two days to breathe out and it'll be smooth as a bedsheet.

@@JoshtheRVNerd Thanks Josh. My F150 has a payload of 1,787 lbs so I'd be pushing it, but doable if I was to travel dry. Question for you, is the backup camera prep compatible with the Ford 360 degree camera/pro trailer backup assist? Specifically does/can it work with the factory display in the dash. Been meaning to ask this for a while and keep forgetting. The reason I ask is that there is no mention of OEM camera integration in your videos and I can't be the only one having that consideration, perhaps it is something to cover in future videos. Thanks for doing what you do, it is much appreciated.

This is the one I have been waiting for. Just waiting to see if Rockwood switches to Azdel mid year.
Here are somethings I'd like see changed.
    1. Remove to shelf under the corner kitchen counter cabinet. This location would make a nice trash location.
    2. Add MaxxAir in the kitchen.
    3. Early version of this had pull out cooktop under the outdoor fridge plus a prep area. I really liked this design and I'm disappointed they are only using the fridge only.
The cooktop made for the ultimate outdoor camp kitchen with the griddle.
    4. Yes, a split sliding door to the bathroom would be better than the single swing door.
    5. I'd not get the auto level as this camper is so small, I'd rather use the dollars on extra MaxxAir fan, slide toppers etc.
    6. I prefer the darker furniture with the Newport ash for color contrast.
I'm so glad to see your video on this model. You provide more info than anyone else in the business. It is greatly appreciated. - Tammy

And all that outside storage in a small fifth wheel.. Holy Cow!!! And auto leveling .... really really nice! Love it!! While you didn't show the door under the sink open at 4:12, I assume that it's blocked off because the outdoor fridge is in that space. I'm not a fan of the outdoor fridge, so I would remove it and remove the panel that is blocking the door and put a trash can in that space. That way, I could take the trash out from the outside!

I wonder that corner storage on those kitchen cabinets would've been better off as an outdoor storage of some sort. Might be a bit too hard to reach though, so nevermind.
As for the fridge access in transit vs no access, access is better than not. The convenience of being stop off at a store on the way to your destination to stock up on groceries or clean out the fridge when you get home without having open the slides can't be understated, especially for people whose RV storage location isn't big enough to accommodate the slides being out.
Plus, some places you can park at overnight, like some stores and truck stops, tend to not allow people to open up the slides, so being able to access the essentials is definitely a must in those situations.

I like this for a small 5th Wheel. Definitely has travel accessibility, which is a must. Would rather have less shelving on sides of bed and a king bed instead, but not a deal breaker.
To answer your question: I'm not particular about light vs. dark color cabinetry. It's more of a "does it look top notch?" vs. "does it look cheap?" quality issue. While I love light colors because it looks more open & airy, I do worry about tracking dirt & staining in the long run. Again, not a huge issue.
If I was shopping for a 5er, this would definitely make the short list for a couple's camper

Love it. I really like the color pallet in this one. Not too light, not too dark, gorgeous!
In the kitchen, OMG the counter space is great for a small camper!! Not going to lie there is nothing about the kitchen and living room that I don't love. The storage, the counter, the pantry-tainment center, yes please.
On the upper deck, the bathroom is great, the only thing I'd do is angle the toilet towards the shower for optimal leg room. I do agree with you that a pocket door would be nice but get why there isn't one... hmm unless you could do a double pocket door and pull them together in the middle 🤔?
And that BEDROOM!!! Seriously beautiful!! I can tell you why it strikes me like it did you, it's the fact that there are no hanging cabinets one both sides of the headboard. Just having the are open on both sides with bedside tables instead, it just makes it look so open and HUGE!!
Last but not least, I don't usually talk about the outside but I love this one, it just has everything that you don't usually get with a smaller trailer.
This is definitely a home run in a smaller package. It offers a lot!!

Bonus for the true queen walk around bed. Wonder if you could put a barn door on the bathroom? Idk how much room was there if it slid to the right. Got to be a way around that door if it was truly a concern.
