- Corey is no noob to sledding but he's wanting to learn more about tuning and mechanics. Ricki teaches a relative noob to mechanics how to put a new Camso Challenger 3" 162" track on his Arctic Cat snowmobile. In this video Rick covers everything from start to finish and hits a few speedbumps along the way. Corey Knapp wants to learn more about tuning and in this video Rick teaches some tricks and tips on how to DIY. Many 3" tracks are losing paddles and Rick discusses why. Sorry this video is so long but I think all the info is valuable.
If you're new to our channel, we post videos about snowmobile tuning. Lots of tips and tricks for maintaining and modifying your sled and sled trailer. Mostly just DIY sled stuff for people who like to get their hands dirty or tinker in their garage.

Here's a tip, from a guy that works on these everyday at a dealership. Get yourself a torx socket 3/8" drive. Get urself a impact driver that you hit with hammer that accepts 3/8" socket. works every time.
Dang right. Them things and the small screwdriver ones are the most valuable tool in the box. Saves so many striped heads and sooo much time
i use one of these to take apart old carbs too. some of those pilot jets and whatnot can get siezed good and the hand impact tool works like a hot damn.
Lives in 🇨🇦 Canada but hates the metric system lol. I love it.
Every Canadian hates the metrics system
Ive been rippin the hell out of my 2.25, 153 like its a trail sled and not one torn lug. My old proclimb is geared a little high so track gets up somewhere around 80 mph. Great vid bud, I had a good laugh and now I feel cool for having nine fingers!
I changed mine around the beginning of January. 12 M1100 turbo with the 162x3 it's the first track I've done and all i can say is there was definitely some major highs and lows lol. Didn't strip any of the bolts that hold the chain case on but i did position the break line wrong and the rotor cut a whole in it. All in all i am glad i was able to save some big bucks on shop rates. I got started around 7 pm and got out of the shop at 1:30 in the morning. I had whiskey so I'm not complaining😁
Stripped Torx... you almost have to try for this to happen. Torx are made so they are a tight fit in the head, always make sure the head is clean and always use the tightest fit. If there is play in the head, it's not the right one. Get both SAE & Metric; I don't like metric either but if you want to do the job right.... That was a painful chaincase cover extraction to watch, I would have used vice grips, instead of trying to drill it out. You'd be shocked how practical a good set of vice grips is in dealing with mishaps like this, or like dealing with wore-beyond-the-skis, wear bars.
3" fn track... I'd have to get a tunnelectomy to install one of those.
I learned a lot of good info, never owned my own sled just yet. Thx D
Well hey...everyday is a learning day! I'm glad you watched and super glad that you got something out of it. - Randy🤙
Couldn't have said it better myself!. Just turned 43 , and the sleddn in -27 don't happen anymore hahaha
Love the experience and attention to detail vs a noob
Great Video! Shout out from Michigan
Sup Michigan! Braap. 🤙
The old Polaris chain cases used self tapping screws but you would never know it unless you looked close at the end. The bolt was not actually round but trilobular in shape which is how it can self tap. Problem is you only get full three engagement at three points on the threads so the threads strip out easy. I always replaced the bolts with regular bolts then you can choose the head you want. Socket head cap screw or good old regular hex head.
Snapped a bolt on my old mxz but luckily there was a "spare" hole next to it and i always save metric bolts from car projects so😅
Awesome vid dude 🤘🏻. Tackling a broken chain case this week on my xf. One good thing cat did was make tons of parts that work on a bunch of different series cats. But the self tappers and torx bits gotta go. 👍
Hey thanks for watching T Wood. Appreciate it man.Good luck with the chain case!
Finally did! I messed with diamond drive for a while, there lots and took a bit to find the one I needed. But just got me a proclimb so bye bye ddrive!!
“IF” you can get on those torx bolts with a pair of vice grips, you can get them out. Chew them up but might work.
I feel your your stripped bolt pain. After watching this vid I’m gonna pb blaster every single bolt and let sit over night.
awesome video
Thanks for watching Simba! I know a 23 min video is long but it was hard to cut stuff out.
Good stuff!
"Burandt doesn't know what a wrench is" 😂
Its true hehe
Bah hahhhhhhhhh🤣🤣😂😂
Another good one!
Hey bud me an my boyfriend watch an love your videos and always can’t wait till you put a bee one up every time thanks again... we where wondering if you have a merchandise to sell we love to buy some hoody’s an stickers if you do please let us know thanks
we have a bit of Variety of items on our website , Digit9.ca , and we have more coming
Hey bub I just cut off my cog shaft and cleaned out the chaincase in the meantime. Sled is a 01 zr800 is there any upgrade or anything I can do to make it better to handle more power
I would say polaris tracks don't do this because I've done 80mph on a 174x3 turbo and had no issues but my 155x2.6 is missing 3 lugs. My group has actually had really good luck with the polaris 3 inch tracks and they've taken some serious abuse but none of them have more than 2k miles
never owned a chaincase sled and I'm glad now lol
Torx are an incredible fastener, they are highly resistant to stripping out. Don't blame the torx
just removed 6 torx from a transmission.. with a drill.. all 6 stripped. They are fine for fasteners that do not need a lot of torque to loosen after they seize with corrosion.
Awesome Video! Instant Subscriber!
Yes! Thanks Darrell. We have boat loads of good sled videos so snoop around the channel and welcome aboard. 🤙
Oh I'll be snooping. When I'm not riding I'm watching! Iv got a chain to put on my 2012 F800 and was happy to watch your video. I hope I don't strip anything. I'm taking your Advice and buying a 3/8 drive Hecks
Question... Are Paragon clutch plastic rollers (internal) available from some OEM manufacturer outside of Paragon... And BTW nice mid 90s color scheme on sled, reminds me of my 96 Ultra.
Doubt it , try Paragon or Mtn Magic in Edm AB
@@DIGIT9 thanks, tried Paragon with no reply.
You should do a shop tour video!
Just moved , dont have new shop set up yet !! ☹️
@@DIGIT9 I'm in the same boat!
I have an old 2001 rmk800 and wanted to gear it down and wanted to just change the smaller sprocket do I go bigger or smaller to get more torque?
drop small one two sizes , use same chain , get more torque , plus its cheaper
need more videos the ones you have are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Appreciate it Joe! We’re working on it
The thing i like about torx is they can easily be "one size fits all"
Seems like T20 is a common size used
Those snap rings usually fly 20 feet across the shop never to be found again.
Digit9. My knees feel the same. But I’ve been wearing them knee braces that crank together to hold knees together. Forgot what they are called. They are slick!!! Mobius I think 🤟🤟🍺🍺
Google. Mobius. Now! Thanks man.
@@DIGIT9 they get me through this season. But think I’m looking into knee replacements. 🤣🤣🍺🍺
not enough tatoos and muscle haha!! great video thx
Love your vids and and stories man you would be a blast to go riding with would learn lots from you!
Looks a lot easier than doing the same job on a 90s sled like an Indy... Less travel and shorter tracks worth a heavier skid.
Simple thought, just a quick tac weld a nut to the head of torx? Then use a normal socket to undo the torx
Simple thoughts can be great thoughts Scott. Especially if you have a welder handy 🤙
@@DIGIT9 what about the good ol impact driver?
Everybody’s always givin my neighbor burandt a hard time haha
we are just jealous !! he"s livin the dream
Where abouts are you guys from? I hear Edmonton come up alot on the page but have yet to figure out if yous are on Alberta or BC side lol
From Edmonton but hangin in Sicamous for the winter !!
The location is "seasonal" Kody...LOL. Edmonton, Calgary, Sicamous, Sasky. - Randy
@@DIGIT9 ahh gotchya! I rode in sicamous a few times last season, you may have noticed me driving around, im the infamous snowmobile bandit with the crown vic that got plastered all over the news last year haha
Icing his knee in his vlog lol
I replace all those Torx bolts with 8 mm head metric bolts
I get a shop vac duct tape a gas line to it and suck all the chain case oil out
I NEED HELP! I have a 1998 arctic cat zr 600, it is the carbureted model, not the efi. It will rev up to about 6000 rpm and it acts like it has a rev limiter. if I hold the throttle at wide open for a while it will eventually go past 6000 to about 7500 rpm. But if I take the belt off it revs up just fine, so it cant be a stator issue. It has to be a clutching issue right? It came with a polaris primary and secondary on it when I bought it aswell as a D&D billet aluminum helix. I don't know anything about clutches so any help would be appreciated. Thank you to whoever answers!
Button or roller Secondary ?
@@DIGIT9 i may sound dumb but how do I tell the difference? I'm good with mechanics but sleds are new to me
Take a pic of clutchs
@@DIGIT9 i can on Tuesday, how can I show you?
Facebook or insta
@DIGIT9 are you an albertan boy? Hey from edson ab!
10-4 , Edmonton AB
@@DIGIT9 glad to hear from another Albertan I'm born and raised from drayton valley moved to edson last year! I built a mod sled myself, email me maybe we can get together sometime I can quiz you on some things when I do my triple builds I believe you might like my current build cory.rathgeber@live.ca
Why doesnt all sleds nowadays use beltdrive instead of chaincase ?
Takes more energy to use belt drive ! Less reliable !
surprise, surprise shock bushings on a cat are shot... dont worry they are also on backorder for months
Turns out , that the dealer that changed the shocks forgot to put them in !!
A little heat to melt the locktite.
was $780 for a 2.5" 136" camso track
I'm Canada, just payed 1100 for new 153"2.6 inch lug, challenger
That track is 900+ in the stated there bud
Oh ya eh ? Buddy thats missing 1/3 of his finger is preaching to other buddy to keep his fingers away from a snapring lol
Why did they punch the centre of the track on the new tracks it’s not a Polaris center drive
Snow release
@@DIGIT9 looking for a 3 inch track to stay together and they put extra holes in it
@@leviparney8165 its so polaris can use them too, not brand specific. also lighter. doesnt hurt anything.
What you think about belt drive instead of chain case
I dont like them , too inefficient !
Arctic cat uses chassis made by Yamaha so metric.
Yo
Yo
I thought everything in Canada was metric?
Just about , yup , and I hate it !!! 🤬
What was once the standard is now the new metric.....
Clamp your wallet lol
An Just like that.. I Don't wanna own a Cat!
I think an impact could have made this faster😂
OR WAY LONGER.....CAST ALUM AND IMPACT BAD COMBO
@@craigbielsky115 theyre great tho when you tighten them up and break them loose by hand. I can't stand ratcheting for ages if I don't have to.
You guys need air tools
Finally someone agrees torx torex are garbage
