LOL, life was simpler when all I had was a handful of Mr. Twisters, 3" Slug-O's, and a couple Rapala jointed minnows. Love that tip for nicking the bait, THANKS!
@@JohnnyRebLa Sure do...might have to buy from Lunker City's site to get choice of size/color. I do good with the 3" on L action with 4-6# test. Not as good with the larger sizes; they might be better with twist-lok and nose hook?? Alewife was my favorite.
I use the mister twister and catch 14” plus bass with it pulling it through rough alge patches in a small pond in front of an apartment complex near me.
I prefer tail down to avoid fouling the hook. I also like long wispy tails. So, I clip 4" worms w/tails off to 2"-3" depending on water clarity and depth. I'll clip them on a slight angle to improve glide or drop rates. (Thank you Malcolm Lane) White Bass, LM Bass & Crappie seem to like salt & pepper the best.
I fish tail down on grubs. Mainly use zoom fat Albert's and the BPS ones. Use them alot as a swimming bait but also slow rolling down steep banks or in deep water. Great bait that people do not use as much anymore. Thanks for the video.
The grub is completely under appreciated. Trailer for anything, swimbait,Neko,Texas rig,and so much more. The best grub I’ve used so far is the gander Mtn grub. It has a little arm on it to make it weedless on a ball head. Zoom is the other one and zman has a good one too.
I like fishing grubs weightless texas rig and drag em across lilly pads or count it down and use as a jerk bait. this is a summer / fall pattern in winter I use lead head .
Coming from australia here we love and use them but smaller sizes for our bream we use 2 and 2.5 inch generally on a 1/20 jig head sometimes heavier sometimes lightsr depends on the conditions then we use 4 5 and 6 inch for snapper
This was a fantastic video to begin your 2023 presentations. This bait is good for every category of fisherman from beginner to professionals in national championships. I spoke about the curly tail last year. It was a video called “don’t forget about the curly tail.“ I emphasized a lot of points that you made such as this bait is one of the most successful baits in bass fishing but it is hardly highlighted. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣
Love fishing grubs. Always productive. I fish them texas, ballhead and on slider heads. Zoom fat albert, zman and damiki mr jumbo are my favourite. Greetings from South Africa!
Great video!! Never knew how to fish a grub but now I found the way!!!! I bit the bullet & ordered the custom Booya Lipless. Used the code!! Thanks! Should be getting them tomorrow!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!
Been tossing the Yama grub 5in. For decades old school bait that I haven’t put down till this day it’s my confidence bait . 👍🏻oh and tail down so it doesn’t snag on hook .
Grubs Rule!!! Good video Hank,,, I’ve been fishing grubs since I was a kid. Try to keep 4 in. down to 1in. For all occasions. Bream, crappie, perch and bass can’t think of anything that won’t bite’em.
Catfish especially from ponds will eat grubs that mimmick tiny baitfish as well and I've had a pretty good size river carp follow and swipe at a 2" yellow grub a rod length from the kayak so I really don't know what wouldn't eat them either
In my heart, it will always be a Mr. Twister. 😀 I fish in very clear water and love their versitility when I am in area with diverse type of bottom or cover. Drag it, snap it, swim it, vertical jig it, jigworn in the weed, etc. If I am not just working a reaction bite, my most successful method is a natural color (baby bass is a great one) on a swim, kill, short drag retrieve. Unless I am on a muddy bottom, I get most of my fish on long kills (maybe 20 seconds). Seizdcaracass mentioned zman. Would love to try something buoyant that would stand up on the pause. Elaxtech might help with my number grub problem: bluegill and sunfish biting off the tail. I would fish it a lot more if I didn't have to be replacing baits all the time.
I only use a Fat Albert grub on my white chatterbait. White grub and spike-It chartreuse on the end of the tail. Or green grub, with red spike-It on the tail, for a green chatterbait. Each are an excellent combo that work for Large and smallmouth bass. Tail down every time.
The fat alberts are killer for where i fish in the Connecticut river. This evening i went out after work and had 10 smallies on today with the fat albert and a 1/4 oz ned rig head.
Like the man said, this is the original swimbait lure, us " Old Farts " have been fishing these lures , like me for over 50 years and they were killer for all types of fish back in the day and they still are now , never hit the water without them , and the twin tail grubs make for an great jig trailer too !!!
Hey Hank: 2016 was the first year I fished for smallmouth bass with grubs and they worked great. I didn't know enough to use a jighead. What worked instead for me was Gamakatsu 54411 exposed hooks and worm weights.
Same! I remember an old timer telling me the same thing and showing me this Lure as I was watching him catch everything with it. About 35 years ago. I’m gonna go fishing today in North Jersey a little chilly but I need to do it lol
I just mentioned this bait in my video, haha you can even Carolina rig it too, my favorite is the yamamoto, but kalins worked too back in the day, Lets Go!!!
Great video! I was happy when seeing what the video was about! I use fat alberts all the time and my favorite way is to just thread it on a #2 VMC neko hook and no weight on spinning rod slow reeling just a few inches under the water
Great stuff as always Hank! Gonna try that out after this cold snap. 12° by Monday. Might be awhile. You ever get down to 12 brother? It's about time to move!!
Never used them for bass, but have absolutely wore out the speckled trout in Tampa Bay with grubs. Will have to start working these into my bass lure rotation 😅.
I prefer to fish m with the tail up also, but on the tri color ones they sell for crappi fishing. If you rig m with the dark color on top n light down the way bait fish appear naturally, the tail comes out to the side
Well, there is one fishermen talking about it. Double tail Grub from Zoom is tough to beat. I like it on an Arkie jig. Some day I'm coming to your lake with my doubletail grub. Fish on!
#100percentwatchsquad!!!! I actually really like to use a curly tail grub as a swim jig trailer. In the prespawn, when you want more action than just a fluke but not as much as a craw or swimbait, a grub can be perfect!
Funny to see this video as a buddy and I were discussing fat alberts this morning , he was asking why I don't throw grubs in my home lake and frankly I don't have a clue why I don't , especially since I have about 10 never opened packs , looks like I'm headed to the garage to round them up and throw them on the boat

hey man, im a brand new fisher using one of these grubs, and I got it caught on some rock and lost it. How should you go about fishing with this lure when there are some rocky bottoms.
Weight and reel speed is key. First You want to go as light as possible for the depth. You might want to tick the bottom but not drag it. Weight vs depth will be the first thing you’ll need to manage lighter weight for shallower water. If your moving the bait haw fast you reel is key also. If your on the bottom a lot reel faster or lighten the weight.

I tear smallies and walleye ( occasionally a pike) up in front of my dad's cabin on the rip rap. Kind of a family fave among my dad and uncles. I always throw it on a baitcaster and always put the curl on the same side as the hook point. I switch the retrieve up until I figure out how they want it.

Thanks for the awesome info and I agree 100
I like moss green ones with red, silver and light green sparkles, gotta give that a try in deep stained water.
Thanks for this. With all the new stuff being constantly thrown at you, it's good to be reminded about the tried & true. Cheers!
Yeah it's nuts even I let it sit to long.
I like fishing grubs weightless texas rig and drag em across lilly pads or count it down and use as a jerk bait. this is a summer / fall pattern in winter I use lead head .
Heck yeah that's killer.
Love the OG Mr Twister grubs. I use them all my life and they never fail me.

The salt and pepper grub has been a go-to for me for years! Works like a champ!
That's such a great color.
What the fuck is salt and pepper
