One of my favourite things about stranger things is that Hopper is actually good at his job! Usually in shows the small town cop is a joke but Hopper listens to people and actually takes things seriously. I also don’t think Lucas had a problem with El specifically, he just wanted to find Will and saw her as a distraction!
That's exactly how i feel with Joyce as well. Usually you see the mother not having a lot of means to help out besides worrying. If Joyce can do something she get's it done, doesn't rely on others unless she knows it can help her, and never let's anyone beat her spirit. She's amazing to watch!

We don’t really recognize this but they started filming in 2015, they will finish Jan 5th 2025. It may only be 5 seasons, but these kids have worked together for 10 years- just as long as the Harry Potter cast did.
It's because they're referencing the 80's tropes where the boyfriend is a misogynistic bully so viewers assume that's what's happening. It's only later that we find out that it's a subversion. Originally he actually was going to be a bad person who died at the end of the season but Joe Keery was so likable that they rewrote the character.
Yeah when I first watched it I couldn't stand Steve, but my daughter kept telling me he gets better. Starting the final episode I all I could say was when does this jerk get better and then there the end fight happened. Damn, Steve is great.
another small detail that says a lot about a character is how when Jonathan went to look for Will at his dad’s place he even searched in the car’s trunk. Although you’ve already seen the relationship between the sons and their father it’s actually an indication to how bad the situation actually was and how cruel their father must have been for Jonathan to believe he is capable of hurting his son!
In defense of Lucus. Mike is letting a random girl live in his house secretly after one of his best friend disappears. Obviously, as viewers we are protective of El but to Lucus she’s a random bald girl who appeared the day his friend disappears who has powers and won’t tell them any info about herself; I would be super skeptical of what her story is and wary about her just being hidden away where Mike and his family sleep at night
Let's get something straight. Joyce asking for two weeks advance wasn't asking too much. She's worked there 10 years, has never missed a single shift and has worked holidays for him. Plus, part of her purchase goes right back to the store. And she wasn't asking for a handout - - just an advance.
i appreciate you not jumping to defend jonathan about the photos, it's undeniably creepy, and for some reason lots of people don't see that? and they think steve is just being a bully in that moment - like breaking the camera wasn't cool but also i can't really blame him. idk, i still really like jonathan and i do throughout the show. i think it ends up just feeling like a strange writing decision to have him take those photos, in hindsight. not sure it was totally in character, but moreso just served the plot, imo.
Yes, it's one of the 80's tropes they wrote in. It's often the shows biggest downfall when they go a bit too far - and reuse old tropes that are no longer or less acceptable in modern times. (I have my gripes with some writing choices - but I love the show)

I agree. It was really refreshing to see cause it really shocks me how a lot of people don't seem to care? If I found out my classmate took pictures of me in a pool or undressing I'd hope someone breaks more than their camera wtf.

When I first started watching this show I thought I saw where it was going from episode 1. We had the monster, the jock, the ignorant small town cop, etc. but the way the show immediately shifts a lot of the generic character types into layered REAL people that's when I fell in love with the show. Yeah and the mystery is pretty darn solid too xD
Lucas is the skeptic of the group, and he has no idea what this (admittedly) odd girl is doing here. Plus his friend just vanished. Really glad you’re watching this!
I'm from Atlanta, where Stranger Things was shot. It was wild to watch this and see a few places that I recognized, but it was even crazier to see some of these places around town after watching the show. The most jarring for sure was the day that I drove past the building that they use as Hawkins Lab. It's just in the middle of the city, off of a busy road. I've never had a building jump scare me before. 😅 The actors that play Jonathan and Nancy used to come into my job pretty often too. They used to date (no idea if they're still together), and it was funny seeing everyone double take when they'd walk in. Some of the other cast members would come in too, but those two were regulars.
Hawkins* and yes they’re still together, they refer to each other as hubby/wife so they might be married too or like it (: together since 2016, when the series premiered! and where do you work? or I mean what kind of place? (if it’s not a big chain I wouldn’t know it lol not from the US)

We got elements from the works of Steven Spielberg, Wes Craven, John Carpenter and many others. The series' title is inspired by Stephen King book covers, El's dress when getting in school is like E.T.'s disguise and the Byers house is an homage to the cabin in The Evil Dead. I'm a proud horror fan and I'm crazy about 80s films, so you put the two together and I'm a happy camper.
I love this! Having grown up in the eighties, I know the references to Spielberg, Craven, Carpenter, and King, but I'm not a huge horror person, so I haven't seen The Evil Dead and didn't know the house was modeled on it.
Ya if He hasnt seen many of the movie that they are playing homage to. Be a great series to do after the show. (Et, Poltergeist,nightmare on elm street,Alien...list could go on forever.)

God I’m glad you were told about the horror/suspense elements of the show cuz Diegesis (another channel) was told it was a “feel good” show and they were so upset every single episode because the feel-good is rare, but the quality is stellar. They finally got to start watching Ted Lasso, which is actually a feel good show.
Feel-good? What? I am always annoyed that people think it is a mystery show instead of horror and then completely fail to understand how the different subplots of the later seasons work. It is definitely horror. Who would call this feel-good?
The character design is amazing - they created totally real characters with backgrounds that make total sense and then give us a bit at a time some that we slowly come to understand, including getting a sense of how others see the characters when they don't really know them and how the characters really are. It's truly masterful.

Fun fact: the character of Dustin was slightly rewritten when Gaten Matarazzo was cast, they added in that Dustin has cleidocranial dysplasia because that's what Gaten has, it's why he has no collarbones or natural teeth. Apparently, they loved him and his test screening so much that they wanted to reflect him more in the character.
After season 1 it's gets way better for me plus can't wait for the final season (5) of this amazing show 😊 (plus Joyce is the best mother in the whole show)
This show has a great consistency and growth. All around just a fun time and a wild journey. And for a horror/scifi show - the actors act their asses off. Award winning level acting
This is truly a wonderful show. You are gonna love it. As a kid of the 70s in Scotland, turning to a teen in 1979, in summer especially we would be out by 7am/8am and return for lunch/dinner and then out again until it was dark. I loved it. I'm glad I grew up at that time. The 80s were pretty well the same for kids. Just three TV channels (and they would shut down at different points during the day)! There was even a kids' TV show called 'Why don't you just switch off your television set and go and do something less boring instead?'
For me this show means a lot because i grew up along side the cast. I’m the same age as the kids portrayed in the show and i’ve grown up along side them. Love this show
I'm obsessed with the sound design for the Demogorgon! It's echoing chitters are the perfect blend of alien and animal! Every detail of this show is so well-thought out and beautifully crafted!! Here's hoping the final season will end strong!
by season 3 he had become my favorite character on the show, and now he's in my absolute faves of all time, up there with samwise gamgee and steve rogers. i tell everyone who's starting this show to just have faith, you'll see how amazing he is soon.

Your insight into Nancy’s character is crazy. Sooooo many people (myself included) hated her from the jump, but you get exactly where she's coming from and understand that she's a person who sucks at communicating. @@clover2739 It's sadly a huge thing. I think it's mostly gone away by Season 4, but there were so many people (again, myself included) who hated her for being indecisive, unaware of her own emotions, etc. Lots of sexism, unfortunately :(

El is a essentially a stranger who has powers who showed up at the same place and around the same time as one of their best friends went missing. Lucas doesn't trust El, and honestly, at this point, he's right not to fully trust her yet. Could he have been a little nicer? Sure but his skepticism is warranted.
Stranger things is the only Netflix series I’ve fully watched up until season 4, it’s so fascinating and immersive to me even though it’s so unrealistic haha! Definitely a big fan of it, can’t wait to see your reaction to this, I hope you’re gonna watch all of them! Can’t wait for season 5 as well!
I was a kid in the 80's in America... I will say FOR A FACT.. this show got it right!! Everything about these kids and the look and the way they act ETC. .. They NAILD IT!! Yes the character writing in this show is so good! And so complex. I think Jonathan took those photos because he was already out taking photos in the area, and he probably kind of justified the temptation to himself like "oh I'm just looking for clues for my brother, and I'll throw away the pictures I don't need later" but he obviously knew it was wrong because he was trying to hide it. I honestly think he would have indulged the temptation to look a little longer, and then done the right thing and thrown them away. He's just a realistic teenager making dumb mistakes because of lack of impulse control. And same with Steve, like you said he clearly felt a little guilty for smashing the camera, but justified it to himself because Jonathan DID do something wrong, and he was protecting Nancy etc.
It’s crazy how I was just watching this series (after watching only the first season with a friend and going back and *actually* watching it) and I was actually looking for reactions to it and here my wishes have been granted! Always love your reactions so I’m looking forward to this one especially!
Welcome to another great franchise. I really loved this first season - it totally grabbed me, even though most would say it is a more subtle than later seasons. It definitely didn't hurt that for people of my age, who were teens in the 1980's, there is a ton of nostalgia and call-backs to the culture at that time.
I hate that streaming learn all the wrong messages from the success of Stranger Things. people praised each season as "one long movie" but they just meant it felt movie quality and the story all worked together. So like Disney plus takes things that should've been movies - Boba Fett, Kenobi, Ahsoka, and Acolyte - and thinks it's ok to chop them into pieces for streaming. But Netflix drops all the season at once, so if i'm hooked I can binge it all. But giving me a movie cut into small unsatisfying pieces one week at a time is mega frustrating it's not a good thing.
Glad you started this ,amazing series keeps getting better and better ,I was these kids age in the time period and they nailed that early 80s to mid 80s midwest look and feel of the times

One of the single best seasons of television of all time! The subsequent seasons aren't bad at all, but this one is nearly perfect.
facts, the others are good, but s1 takes the cake for the best thing Netflix ever did by far

That building is owned by Emory University and it was once a psychiatric hospital. It's as creepy in real life as it looks.

I am always annoyed that people think it is a mystery show instead of horror and then completely fail to understand how the different subplots of the later seasons work.

Winona Ryder’s performance in this season is just truly incredible
The character design is amazing - they created totally real characters with backgrounds that make total sense and then give us a bit at a time some that we slowly come to understand, including getting a sense of how others see the characters when they don't really know them and how the characters really are. It's truly masterful.

Mike took Will's "death" the worst. You can see his bond to Will is the strongest even though Will is missing the majority of the season.
Fun fact: the character of Dustin was slightly rewritten when Gaten Matarazzo was cast, they added in that Dustin has cleidocranial dysplasia because that's what Gaten has, it's why he has no collarbones or natural teeth. Apparently, they loved him and his test screening so much that they wanted to reflect him more in the character.
After season 1 it's gets way better for me plus can't wait for the final season (5) of this amazing show 😊 (plus Joyce is the best mother in the whole show)
This show has a great consistency and growth. All around just a fun time and a wild journey. And for a horror/scifi show - the actors act their asses off. Award winning level acting
This is truly a wonderful show. You are gonna love it. As a kid of the 70s in Scotland, turning to a teen in 1979, in summer especially we would be out by 7am/8am and return for lunch/dinner and then out again until it was dark. I loved it. I'm glad I grew up at that time. The 80s were pretty well the same for kids. Just three TV channels (and they would shut down at different points during the day)! There was even a kids' TV show called 'Why don't you just switch off your television set and go and do something less boring instead?'
For me this show means a lot because i grew up along side the cast. I’m the same age as the kids portrayed in the show and i’ve grown up along side them. Love this show

I'm obsessed with the sound design for the Demogorgon! It's echoing chitters are the perfect blend of alien and animal! Every detail of this show is so well-thought out and beautifully crafted!! Here's hoping the final season will end strong!

by season 3 he had become my favorite character on the show, and now he's in my absolute faves of all time, up there with samwise gamgee and steve rogers. i tell everyone who's starting this show to just have faith, you'll see how amazing he is soon.

Your insight into Nancy’s character is crazy. Sooooo many people (myself included) hated her from the jump, but you get exactly where she's coming from and understand that she's a person who sucks at communicating. Can't wait to see you watch the rest of my favorite show.

@@clover2739 It's sadly a huge thing. I think it's mostly gone away by Season 4, but there were so many people (again, myself included) who hated her for being indecisive, unaware of her own emotions, etc. Lots of sexism, unfortunately :(
@@clover2739 i've literally seen people say that Nancy killed Barb. As if she didn't fully make her own decision and stay even after Nancy TOLD her to leave. And like. A supernatural monster came. That's exactly nobody's fault. And like this reactor said, even if people did know what was happening, how would they even get to the upside down to help??? People are friggin wild.

El is a essentially a stranger who has powers who showed up at the same place and around the same time as one of their best friends went missing. Lucas doesn't trust El, and honestly, at this point, he's right not to fully trust her yet. Could he have been a little nicer? Sure but his skepticism is warranted.

Stranger things is the only Netflix series I’ve fully watched up until season 4, it’s so fascinating and immersive to me even though it’s so unrealistic haha! Definitely a big fan of it, can’t wait to see your reaction to this, I hope you’re gonna watch all of them! Can’t wait for season 5 as well!

I was a kid in the 80's in America... I will say FOR A FACT.. this show got it right!! Everything about these kids and the look and the way they act ETC. .. They NAILD IT!! Other than the obvious SciFi aspect... Everything else is EXACTLY how it was to be a kid in the 80's in America!! Kids from the 80's American life... are some of the TOUGHEST people on this planet right now! Thx to the way we grew up on our own!! We literally raised ourselves with real life experience.. and NO ADULTS! No Cell phones... No Internet... just honestly learning life at a young age BY OUR SELVES!! Yes the character writing in this show is so good! And so complex. I think Jonathan took those photos because he was already out taking photos in the area, and he probably kind of justified the temptation to himself like "oh I'm just looking for clues for my brother, and I'll throw away the pictures I don't need later" but he obviously knew it was wrong because he was trying to hide it. I honestly think he would have indulged the temptation to look a little longer, and then done the right thing and thrown them away. He's just a realistic teenager making dumb mistakes because of lack of impulse control. And same with Steve, like you said he clearly felt a little guilty for smashing the camera, but justified it to himself because Jonathan DID do something wrong, and he was protecting Nancy etc.

Welcome to another great franchise. I really loved this first season - it totally grabbed me, even though most would say it is a more subtle than later seasons. It definitely didn't hurt that for people of my age, who were teens in the 1980's, there is a ton of nostalgia and call-backs to the culture at that time.

I hate that streaming learn all the wrong messages from the success of Stranger Things. people praised each season as "one long movie" but they just meant it felt movie quality and the story all worked together. So like Disney plus takes things that should've been movies - Boba Fett, Kenobi, Ahsoka, and Acolyte - and thinks it's ok to chop them into pieces for streaming. But Netflix drops all the season at once, so if i'm hooked I can binge it all. But giving me a movie cut into small unsatisfying pieces one week at a time is mega frustrating it's not a good thing.
