Just everyone knows, to replace that 12” touchscreen out of pocket is $4500 Canadian, so $3300 US. A friend of mine use to be a Subaru mechanic and he drives a crosstrek with that screen. Also, there is a slight chance when the windshield is replaced that some weird fluke, the software for eyesight can be wiped out of the system and the entire hardware and software needs to be replaced and reinstalled at a cost of $6000 Canadian. I work at an auto glass shop and we are trying to figure out how that happened on a 2023 Subaru legacy. Subaru is blaming us for wiping out the software in two cars.
These giant vehicle touch screens are getting out of hand anyway imo. Makes me feel like I'm working at McDonalds again back in 2002 punching in orders for people. Zero creativity putting screens/more flat surfaces everywhere 😆
I love these! I bought a 2025 Forster Premium. The auto stop/start is really annoying so I turn it off when I get in the car but the driver distraction mitigation system is a joke. Something else to make the consumer pay more money. Regardless, I love Subaru's reliability and off road prowess!

It takes a mere push of a button to blank the screen. I would have preferred a dash without a screen, but car manufacturers can't do that now that backup cameras are required. As long as there's a screen there, you might as well use it, and I know from selling an almost-new used car that young people often won't look at a car if it doesn't have a screen.
I've had my 2012 Outback with CVT since new. Zero CVT issues, replaced 6 quarts of transmission oil twice during the 135,000 miles I've had it. I did have head gasket issues and replaced the timing belt with the twin head gasket turbo version. Love my Outback, waiting on my new 2025 Outback Premium to arrive any day.
The lack of manual AC dials, and use of the touchscreen is a deal breaker. Same with the push button start. OMG... give me a key. It will at least slow down the thieves. Having a V6 option with a tow package would place this vehicle into the top 3 in NA.
Not necessarily (slow down thieves). It's specifically the Kia/Hyundai trims _without_ push-button start that were/are so easy to steal and caused thefts to rise 1000% because they decided to go cheap and not have an immobilizer.
Dope vehicle. Just the fisher price screens are getting a little out of control imo. How many giant touch screens do we need in our lives burning into us with colorful bubbly icons everywhere 😆
Mini Vans replaced Station wagons and SUV's replaced Minivans in the USA, yes there are some station wagons left and still some popular Minivans but this is the age of the SUV and I suppose a Compact Crossover, but many people still call them a SUV when they are not an actual SUV

should give the cladding to wilderness trims. less cladding for non-wilderness. i agree 2015-2019 generation is a better looking vehicle without cladding. current generation looks like an original chevy avalanche before future models had painted plastic cladding
For USA where in one parking spot you can fit nearly two cars, maybe. The cladding is a blessing in other countries where your car is being constantly hit by people who open their door and couldn't care less about the damage.
Sorry. My 2023 Onyx 2.5L was sloooow. So slow that it wouldn’t accelerate on hill climbs in the New Mexico mountains. I had to hug the right lane while everyone passed by. I would not recommend the 2.5L motor. The 2.4L turbo is a great motor.
I am exposing Toyota for false representation. The Toyota connect system is only a very expensive radio if you don’t own a cell phone or when you are out of cell service zone.
I had a 2021 Legacy Touring XT (basically Outback in sedan form). I hated that Driver Focus system. Way too many false alerts telling me to keep my eyes on the road. It wouldn't have been so bad if it could have been permanently disabled, but to turn it off you had to go through 3 menus and it would enable itself at every start. It was maddening. I have a new Hyundai Tucson Limited and while it does have a driver attention feature too it can be permanently turned off. Long story short, I would never buy a Subaru with it again.
@@ornative7514 Well, if you enjoy the feature I imagine you wouldn't have an issue with it. I don't like a camera constantly watching me and flashing a message and an audible beep when it thinks I'm not watching the road, even when I am. It's irritating and I don't need it. If I had the choice to permanently turn it off that would be fine (like my Tucson), but Subaru thinks the know better than the individual driver.
@@jeffmorse645 Do you have the 2024 Tucson Limited? I have a 2023 Tucson Limited and I do not have any driver attention feature. Do you miss the extra power of the turbo that the Legacy Touring XT has? I had an Outback 3.6r Touring before the Tucson and that was a very comfortable vehicle yet I like my Tucson more.
@@FordEnthusiast413 I have 2023 Limited and it does have some sort of driver attention system. I turned it off almost immediately so I'm not sure exactly what its warnings might be. Yeah, I do miss the power of the XT, but it had terrible driveability. 260 HP turbo shouldn't be paired with a CVT. It constantly jerked, hesitated and surged unless I drove it with a very gentle throttle. A friend drove it and he noticed the jerky throttle right away. The dealer said there was nothing wrong and there were no software updates to address it. After 2 1/2 years I needed a crossover and I really like my Tucson. It has almost every feature the Subaru did and behaves much better in city traffic.
It is in RHD countries like Japan, UK and Australia. This could be because it’s a Japanese design with some markets like Australia supplied with Japanese built cars.
i hate the use of 'LEATHERETTE' in the cabin. This material will fall apart if you wash the inside of your car often. Ends up looking like a mangy dog.
Subaru, if you are reading this: drop both engines and bring your new 1.8 turbo to the US. It would be a perfect 'middle ground' and simplify your supply chain.
One issue there are to much Black Plastic around of the car to restore with a Plastic restorer compare to my 2020 version it's my opinion front grill too big , and the fog lights not my favorite. I stay with my 2020 it as 3K it Stay on the garage most of the time except shopping. after 4 years no issues with battery or windshield.
Seems to me like Subaru is just barely holding out on looking different from all of the other cars. My 2005 3.0 R just looks so unique compared to everything else on the road.
@@jsundberg5542 My guess is that people who want a permanent AWD, above average ground clearance, can take the whole family (and a dog) almost anywhere, it doesn't cost a fortune to buy and maintain, legendary safety record. And it's very reliable. Bottom line - people who couldn't care less about the look. They want an actual car.
You'd be surprised as to how many other cars use a hood prop. I'd like a hydraulic strut holding up my hood, too, but there's other cars that surprisingly still use a prop rod.
A thirsty, weak, dated engine is the killer problem. Then add in general tired handing and lacking performance and this doesn't attract customers.. Subaru need a fully refreshed model with much ,much better economy and at least 50% more power than the present version.

We're lucky they still have an independent turn signal bulb... Most new vehicles with LED turn signals are the same as the tail light & brake light.
Easy aftermarket upgrade
@@AliasHSW yes, especially with the new lasfit bulb with the built in resistor.
did subaru removed thigh support ?
It's on the Limited and Touring.
Did they fix the TCV like on the new Forester?
Nope not yet, the 2.5 Crosstrek and Impreza still have the same problem too. The 2.4T and 2.0 NA don’t though.
360 on the Forester and not the Outback. Strange choice Subaru.
I'm sure the redesigned Outback will have it.
This is the last year of the current generation of the Outback. The Forester is in its first year of a new generation. I am sure the 2026 Outback will have a 360 on at least the Touring Trim
The Outback is 100% wagon and always has been… just because it’s a lifted wagon shouldn’t chance the classification
No more hood staying up on its own without holding it up in one hand and using a cheap plastic hood support ☹️
I don’t need a flat screen tv on my dashboard.
Yuk, need to get rid of wheel arch black cladding....my 2016 looks better
I agree, my 2019 has very little cladding & I believe it is a much better look.
Also I don't have auto start-stop.
should give the cladding to wilderness trims. less cladding for non-wilderness. i agree 2015-2019 generation is a better looking vehicle without cladding. current generation looks like an original chevy avalanche before future models had painted plastic cladding
@@evanzillich270yes!!! i hate how subaru is embracing this. take a look at the bz4x. i hate it!!!!!
For USA where in one parking spot you can fit nearly two cars, maybe.
The cladding is a blessing in other countries where your car is being constantly hit by people who open their door and couldn't care less about the damage.
Electric folding mirror, 360camera and HID?
Power folding mirrors in the Touring trim only. 360 should be available next year when the redesigned 2026 Outback debuts. Not sure about a HUD.
Finally, some good f'ing car
so refreshed means more expensive correct???
Check the pricing section of the video to see for 2025
I hate that cladding that curls up and under the headlights. Looks cheap.
And yet so many other SUVs & crossovers are COPYING Subaru by putting more & more plastic cladding on their vehicles. Imagine that!
2:24 but why is it leaking😟😟
Air conditioning
Nope, just AC water, normal for every car
What’s so “premium” about this car exactly?
Agreed, in Australia we’d jokingly call that level of trim “Poverty Pack” these days.
A price i guess.
Sorry. My 2023 Onyx 2.5L was sloooow. So slow that it wouldn’t accelerate on hill climbs in the New Mexico mountains. I had to hug the right lane while everyone passed by. I would not recommend the 2.5L motor. The 2.4L turbo is a great motor.
Agreed- when shopping the Outback, the 2.4 turbo quickly became non-negotiable. Love my '21 Touring XT.
I agree with the turbo
I am exposing Toyota for false representation. The Toyota connect system is only a very expensive radio if you don’t own a cell phone or when you are out of cell service zone.
Is it leaking oil or transmission fluid at 2:23?
Condensation from the air conditioner
Nope, just AC water, normal for every car
Nope. Water. Sorry to ruin your expectation....
the safety features are annoying
I had a 2021 Legacy Touring XT (basically Outback in sedan form). I hated that Driver Focus system. Way too many false alerts telling me to keep my eyes on the road. It wouldn't have been so bad if it could have been permanently disabled, but to turn it off you had to go through 3 menus and it would enable itself at every start. It was maddening. I have a new Hyundai Tucson Limited and while it does have a driver attention feature too it can be permanently turned off. Long story short, I would never buy a Subaru with it again.
Never had such an experience with eyesight on my 2019. In fact as a senior citizen I appreciate that it helps me out when I need it.
I misread your concern - the driver focus system. I don't have that & agree with you that it would be a irritating distraction. My error, sorry.
Gas filler is on the wrong side for safety, needs to be on the driver's side.
It is in RHD countries like Japan, UK and Australia. This could be because it’s a Japanese design with some markets like Australia supplied with Japanese built cars.
You're wrong. For safety reasons (though I don't care), the gas filler is installed on the LEFT side.
i hate the use of 'LEATHERETTE' in the cabin. This material will fall apart if you wash the inside of your car often. Ends up looking like a mangy dog.
How are ya'll complaining about over 30mpg in a non hybrid suv?
Because they don't know any better. And for the record, the Outback in full battle dress is a 3900lb, AWD wagon.
@@eskieman3948 FR
Wish the Outback had more front hip room. 55.5 is not enough...for me.
Maybe you should buy a F-150?
Agree, not so comfy on long trips.
Just get a dark color, as Subaru didn't spring for new molds and is still attaching that butt-ugly fender cladding, always in black.
First like and comment!
I stay with my 2020 it as 3K it Stay on the garage most of the time except shopping. after 4 years no issues with battery or windshield.
great review boring car. they need a big refresh and more powerful engine. Subaru = national parks = NO HYBRID
No, it's not boring (obviously you've never driven a new Outback), and they DO have a a more powerful engine.
Seems to me like Subaru is just barely holding out on looking different from all of the other cars. My 2005 3.0 R just looks so unique compared to everything else on the road.
It's not, but you already knew that.
Good regular 4 cylinder engine, I’m not so sure about the CVT transmission. Consumer reports claims not reliable CVT
NO, you are wrong. They DO NOT claim that at all. Stick with the truth, Carlos.
Caravan
What's new? Practically nothing!
This would have been realy nice and modern if it was year 2005.....🙂
I agree!! but who is buying these ugly cars!!! lol
Is this an old people car?
No
Are you for real? Troll much?
Did you see the oil leak, 2 minutes 20 seconds into video.
Hey Subaru, stop lingering in the past it’s 2024 please get rid of that hood prop
You'd be surprised as to how many other cars use a hood prop. I'd like a hydraulic strut holding up my hood, too, but there's other cars that surprisingly still use a prop rod.
Decade old engine and transmission
Overpriced
Very slow infotainment system
Routine maintenance is very expensive
Good resale value
Better than its competitors as well!
Why are you spreading these lies?
Nothing new, so boring......
So go play with your toys!
A thirsty, weak, dated engine is the killer problem. Then add in general tired handing and lacking performance and this doesn't attract customers..
Subaru need a fully refreshed model with much ,much better economy and at least 50% more power than the present version.
Wow.... so much BS in your comments.... where to start....
Just engine, more efficient turbo with higher torque and that's it.This one reminding me a soviet "Volga" from 80's,sounds and accelerates the same😃
Lesbians: *heavy breathing
The Subaru outback is for everybody, not just lesbians.
subarus cars look so dated!!! old people looking cars. God I hope thar doesn't come back to bite me
It will. Dumb statement.
I have a 2014 Outback. I love this car! However, ten years later with the bullshit screen and total lack of innovation in ten years, I’m seriously considering a Lexus. NOT HAPPY SUBARU!
It’s the same looking car it’s been for years. It’s tired looking it needs a refresh.
Great review 😮
Thanks!
I really appreciate your great review on the Outback. I just purchased the the Outback 1 Week ago, and absolutely love the vehicle.
Question, maybe you can help me with.
I am adding a trailer hitch to the vehicle, and will be pulling a small trailer, about 600 to 700 total pounds.
Is there anything else I need to do the vehicle?.
Again thank you for your great and most informative video?.
Thanks for the kind words! Truthfully, we have never towed in an Outback so neither of us are sure what to recommend
Not really.
