I grew up having a friend who owned an AS350 and an MD500D. Did many hours in the MD500 but then decided I wanted to get my license. I was mortified to fly the Robinson and discover just how dangerous those things are. Any negative G can cause a mast bump... and down you go. No thanks. I'll take the fully articulated rotor system that doesn't require me to get a SFAR 73.
"Not for work; strictly recreational." Aha. We'll see how that pans out LOL. You seem such a great guy that there are no limits to what you are going to achieve. Thanks for sharing - it was just like being there.
No not really, it's much easier in some ways. Engine management is the main difference. Primary fixed wing training in my Air Force is in the turbine Pilatus and rotary is in the Jet Ranger.
Anyone else starts on something like an R-22, at best. Somehow I'm not surprised you go straight to a turbine helicopter. I bet you'll get proficient in no time.
Not bad on first hovering lesson. What helped it click for me is when hovering close to ground, don't look at the area nearest to the aircraft as you'll notice all the small movements and will, over time, overcorrect. Pick a point, usually down the runway, and focus on that area.
I agree with some of the comments below it’s not all that common to be learning on a turbo and helicopter. I think the smaller r 22s or r 44s would be better. Also, that’s not the cheapest helicopter that you’re flying in either. Good luck with your lessons, Tommy.
Fun video. Cockpit audio recording through the go pro is easy to set up in the H125. It helps filter out unwanted aircraft noise and let’s the viewer clearly hear instructor feedback and interaction. Please demonstrate good ADM by utilizing the checklist. Best of luck with your training!🚁
It looked like you did a pretty good job for first lesson and you'll get better obviously. All I know is if I was at those controls that instructor would have been grabbing . Anyway thanks as always Tommy. Keep up the great work and as always thanks for bringing us along Tommy.
You're very good for a learner. I tried helicopter on Microsoft Flight Sim... lucky for me it was just a simulation! Keep up the excellent work and thanks for the great vlogs!
Great Tommy well done. BTW you have lovely kids you must be very proud of them. So I'm still hoping to get a PC24 this year but my PPL means I'll need to employ a pilot.
30 plus years a go I had a boss in the spray business that could fly a fixed wing through the eye of a needle! He said he had 4 hours in a helicopter. Then he said it took 4 hours to try to get it to stand still long enough to get out of the damn thing!
Wow, really good job. I loved flying helo over fixed actually. Just wait until you start auto rotations though. Hope you like roller coasters. Anyway have fun and hope you have better luck with landing than I did. Flew just fine it was getting down that was the problem.
yaaaay! Keep vlogging!! Even if the views are lower than on your Pilatus videos, these are still great. In other news, I work for a company that will reimburse the cost of flight lessons. I was considering whether to do fixed wing or rotary. Any thoughts?
By the way: I’m looking for one of your older videos where you were in your bi plane, flying over the desert and doing some aerobatics. You were doing a corkscrew kind of maneuver around some guys that were on airfoils. Something like that you were using a GoPro max I believe or some thing that kept the Horisont level as you did your corkscrew around the jumpers. Which video is that can you point me to it please.?
@@PlaneJunkies I’ll try to find it! Thanks 🙏 Also, forgot to mention, proud and excited to see your kids’ progression through the variety of experiences you are facilitating for them. Kudos!
It's exciting to see you learn, but seeing your hands and hearing your voices would be better. I know you're not set up for it yet, but maybe some day.
Amazing flying for your first lesson Tommy! Most people would start in a R22 or G2 or R44 so fab you're able to fly the H125! Can't wait for part 2.
Thanks a ton!

@@RealRickCoxhahaha i got an SFAR 73 for the r22 and all of what you said is true.
i wish I could hop in an MD500 or h125
🤔I'm sure You had fun... (a few to many moving parts for me)😁............... I have thought about it several times.
Super excited to see helicopter vids on your channel! also really happy you picked an H125 to train on instead of an R44.
Great job Tommy! You will do great. Peace from Louisiana.

I appreciate that!
Congrats!!! Looking forward to seeing more of this exciting journey.
More to come!
Starting helicopter lessons in a turbine helicopter is like starting fixed wing training in King Air 90.
No not really, it's much easier in some ways. Engine management is the main difference. Primary fixed wing training in my Air Force is in the turbine Pilatus and rotary is in the Jet Ranger.
Starting helicopter lessons in a turbine helicopter is like starting swimming lessons in waters that are not freezing and shark-infested.

Love those helicopter lessons...nice to be able to learn in an Airbus...
Yes indeed

So smooth!
Hey there.. you’re doing it man! I fly fixed wing and want to get rotary licensed as well. GL I look forward to following your journey.

R22/44 is cheaper but also high risk
Hey Tommy if you can land of the rolling pad and hover to a stop !!! H125 is a great Helio and congratulations
Thanks 👍
Won't be smiling so much when time comes to pay for 3 girls helicopter flight lessons too!
lol
That was awesome to watch! I bet you've never flown so low for so long. 😅 I still remember my first lesson. I learned humility.
Ya very weird to fly over houses like that lol
Congratulations on your journey Yes I was wondering about the audio it makes it more interesting. See you on the next one. Safe travels
Congrats
Hey Tommy, that is sharp wow very very very and great new year!! Please keep coming out with more vlogs!!
Thanks! Will do!
A few more cameras for the action. Great video, I look forward for more Heli vids....
Working on it!

Damn, dude didn't give you a start-up check list? I like how he says 'check this stuff.'

👍✅Tks Tommy. You look like your loving it.
I am!

hm 125 is insane !
Fantástico.
Thank you

Thanks . It’s addicting
Can't believe you are doing this on your own (I thought AirSmart was picking up the tab). You must have deep pockets!

That’s cool. I didn’t know you could go right into turbine! I thought turbine was add on after piston?? Never seen someone start like that.
Yes and safer lol
Please put a filter on audio so we can’t hear the annoying turbine whine. Be great to hear you and instructor.
Stick with the H125 or the AS350. They're safe... unlike the Robinson. Those things are death traps.
It's exciting to see you learn, but seeing your hands and hearing your voices would be better. I know you're not set up for it yet, but maybe some day.
Working on it!
Need some headset audio next video!
Yup ordered it and already have it used on lesson 2 :)
What flying school is this? I started mine on a r22 :(
