Around 5 years ago now, I was working at a backpackers hostel as a receptionist. The hostel reception was pretty close to the lounge area and it was full of guests all relaxing and chatting to one another on a Saturday night. I didn't have much to do, so I was just sat at my desk browsing the web. I came across the birthday paradox and immediately went straight into the lounge area to test it out just for fun. I counted everybody in the room and there were around 20 people. So, I start with the first guy on my right and he tells me his birthday - January 20. I shit you not, that's my birthday. I was speechless for a second. The entire room believed I was joking, I believed he was joking and somehow knew my birthday, he went and got his passport and I showed him my ID and everybody was genuinely freaked out and in shock. There are probably lots of people who won't even believe this story but I promise you it happened and I will never forget that moment and neither will he. We stayed in contact since then.

Get lost in the paradox. Getting lost will keep you humble. It will keep you grounded. It will keep you in a constant state of astonishment, where you’re better able to appreciate beauty, to honor paradox, to be open to new experiences, to be flexible and adaptable rather than closed off and dogmatic, to be humorous and vulnerable rather than serious and invulnerable. As Tony Schwartz said, “Let go of certainty. The opposite isn’t uncertainty. It’s openness, curiosity and a willingness to embrace paradox, rather than choose up sides.”
Opening up to strangers is easier than opening up to friends because there's less to lose. If your deepest secret ruins your relationship with a stranger, no big deal. If it ruins your relationship with a friend, you've lost one of only a few people you have a friendship with.
If you ask Rick Astley to give you Up, he won't give it to you because he's never gonna give you Up. However, by not giving you Up like you asked for, he's letting you down. This is known as the Astley paradox.
"Deep down, you are really shallow" At a base level, that person makes judgements which are fundamentally shallow. One can try to appear deep and even make a conscious effort to better one's self, but only when facing a crisis moment do you see the truth of the person.
This is amazing. You can talk about the most difficult, stressful topics, random things, quirky things, and I will always find a new way to be facinated with life even if I was just really down or in a funk or something. Nature and Human nature truly is facinating. The fact that we can comprehend, conduct hypothetical thought processes 💭 is amazing because we can observe nature a glean deeper meaning and behavior mechanics within Nature and utilize those things as if we found like "some sort of video game cheat code to the Universe" it's awesome. This is why, my best therapeutic medicine is hiking with my 2 dogs in the dense woods here in NW Oregon and I get lost in worlds of moss, lichen, fungi, bugs, tree stumps, ferns, old growth oak trees, trees everywhere. I love getting lost in the microclimate of a ecosystem and observing it over time has unintentionally taught me things about life and the world that we live in. Seeing how nature operates and goes through it's 4 seasons each year made me think deeper about how humans naturally have ups and downs that flow organically in life and I thought 💭 it's unnatural for life to be in a constant state of spring time, so it's unnatural to ever consider that us humans could or should be happy and uplifting all of the time (we've all been there where we have unrealistic expectations for ourselves) so I realized that it's natural to have ups and downs and growth and set backs and happy or depressed moments. In nature it's not what things can escape winter, it's what things best can roll with nature and shake it off and bounce back like nothing happened or they gained something from that year that are most successful. So humans shouldn't ever feel like depression is a bad thing that we should not admit to, in reality we should healthily embrace it for a moment and find your own personal ways to gain power of your perspective on the subject so you can experience it but then let it roll off of you like water proof material let's water hit it but the water droplets just roll off it like nothing instead of soaking it, it just effects it lightly and the clothes bounce back just fine, almost creating a mental force feild super power that lets you feel any emotion organically, naturally, but with perspective, you don't get consumed by it or guilt or shame, you realize it's a natural part and function of nature and so you spend less time on any part other than once you're done feeling down you can covert that into energy and motivation for creativity and growth and that's what helps us gain true strength. That's what I've subconsciously been learning from observing nature and how it behaves year after year, (I'm going to rhyme) That with more time it seems like you gain more trust in Nature and the less you Fear. It gives you this sense of Peace ✌️ that no matter how harsh it may seem at times, that there is always a way that it's being utilized in some way and yes it's tough to see sometimes because it depends on how you look at it, but one things for sure is that we know Nature is not wasteful. It is very good at utilizing things. So that gives me peace in the fact that sadly we all pass, all living things pass on, but then I remember that nature wouldn't have a part of it's systems that are such a common underlining function in it's systems for no reason? So it gives me a little peace of mind that even if my mind can never comprehend what comes at the end of time... Im blind but I've observed Nature so many times utilize and use and recycle energy time after time that it calms my mind that our passing isn't a waste of time, it's a necessary function. If it wasn't nature would have found a different junction to conserve energy and currently in our current perspective it's just hard to see that right now, right where we are, is exactly where we ought to be. But this is just my current personal philosophy.
the thing about 2:23 is that, when your friend says it, the information comes from an external source and you can either choose to believe or not, and you won't find the truth unless you go and see for yourself. if on the other hand you say "it is raining, but i don't believe it is" then you must have already confirmed the information, and thus you're denying facts. that's why you would "seem crazy". if you doubt your friend it's more accepted because from your point of view you are still ignorant of the facts 100% (those who have a perspective from the outside would still believe you are a little bit off but it's ok because, again, you haven't faced the facts). it's all about trust. for example, we trust scientists with the results from their experiments, but the majority of people have not done the experiment to see the results for themselves. if someone conducts an experiment and chooses to deny or not to believe in the results, then of course they would be deemed as crazy.
aperture i think it would be really cool if you would upload these on spotify as sort of like a podcast so that i could listen to it on the go or while im playing something
with the birthday paradox part, in that particular scenario, it's the chance someone else has a birthday on that very day, not just that 2 people have the same birthday
The birthday maths is wayy off btw because the probability of 2 random people having shared birthdays is independent but the chance of someone sharing a birthday with a particular person is dependent. So closer to about 1 / 12 chance

So... you figured the probability that any 2 people in the coffee shop share a birthday. However, the probability that someone else shares a birthday with that particular little girl is still (
Yeah he used his math wrong. This solution he gave sums up the odd of ANY two people in a group sharing the same birthday, not anyone sharing their birthday with the girl. Still a pretty good vid nonetheless.
A thought crossed my mind the other day 🤔💭 I was having a particularly bad day and had just received prayer. Spur of the moment I decided to stop at a Truck stop, right after I parked I saw my ex who I Hadn't seen since 2020 and swore I would never see him again, (messy breakup💔) walking across the parking lot 😲Mind you this is a different state than where we lived. Perfect timing? He was getting a tire fixed, I was getting food. So many things that had to line up just perfectly for us to be in another state at the same spot at exactly the same time. I wasn't even supposed to be going that direction but my manager switched my route. But this all made me think not just my ex but everyone. Have you ever thought about how many things had to synchronize and align for any of us to be in the same place. When you're sitting in traffic and look around, everyone around you somehow had a schedule which put them in the exact space and time with you. If their schedule or your schedule had been altered by say... An hour you would be in different places but it the timing was perfect. Even if you had stopped for 15 to get a coffee, a bite to eat, use the restroom etc. You wouldn't be with those ppl on that highway. But even the ppl in the coffee stop with you they had to make the exact choices to end up there at the same time with you. And Bc of the 🦋 effect everything you do affects the timeline. The person behind you in line could have avoided meeting a new friend by 5 minutes bc of waiting in line I digress. But this is why I believe that everyone we encounter on a day to day basis it is for a reason, even if you never meet or speak. Maybe it was just an exchange of energy who can ever say?
people when they go out preferably a coffee shop cuz he said he went to a coffee shop : sigh another boring day we're just doing the same thing since we've been born ... (a notification pops up preferably yt noty) oh cool my fav channel posted another vid it has to be a good day this guy after experiencing that: wait up what if i didn't come here today if i wasn't here it wouldn't be repetitive and i wouldn't have thought of that thus making my day no so boring infact good.. because of that video wait what if i wasn't born in the first place (and the thought goes on and on forever and ever ♾️)
i am 16 and certainly losing my mind watching vids of this channel. now i kinda believe that nothing matters. but idk it has also helped me to stay in the moment and not worry about anything...

The problem in the starbucks example of the birthday paradox is that we have already selected one specific birthday, and we're asking if anyone else in the room has THAT birthday, not if two OTHER people in the room have the same birthdays
it's just like education & educational system...parent's lesson for kids when even the adults are struggling to solve life ... things started this way because of religions as well ... from birth to kids and youth, we are "taught" to live & accept paradoxes topics & lessons in back of our mind..we as one of species have also become accustomed to the paradox of life, living, death considering all the evolutions since it started on earth billions of years ago from single cell to what we have now a complex life organisms.
With the birthday paradox, the odds were about 1/12 (30/365) if there were 30 people in the cafe. Because we aren't working out the odds of people sharing a birthday, we are working out the odds of another person being born on that specific day.
I had discovered new old songs of an artist i know. I played a whole album and while I was listening i googled her to find more about her. I wondered how old she was and when I looked I came to realise that today is her birthday. I found it so freaky.
while paradox of life baffles me, paradox of _languages_ knocks me out of the floor. think about this: some languages can explain what english can't. let that sink in

Just so you know, I think it’s because Barney was a stuffy (that physically existed), and his human traits and kind persona that he portrays is imaginary.
I loved your video and Always liked these things. Im an introvert who likes these kind of things. Im like brain dead when it comes to study , and I cant even focus on study Im 20 and have no job etc. But when It comes to such topic , even maths is fun. I love maths and science the most and yet I told I cant study. Its not false , I get zeros a lot I cant be in college , I always rush and run away quickly. Thinking these kind of stuff about life or paradoxes is the only thing that inspires me to read. I use to dislike school in my days , because I wanted to learn somehting in my life not study for exams. Teachers taught us like were here for exams not for life Not many teachers I loved , because they didnt liked me going too deep on subjects. I used to be the weird person , always reading a book , out of touch from present and always writing and overthinking. Nowdays my interest in study has gone because it feels odd when you study by force. When you dont go to school , you feel like you wanna study but this time you really like it. I dont know why I said this all , but when I watched your videos , I realized that I didnt disliked learning , I simply loved learning but in a different way. I loved that maths you did and the theory. Things like these are fun. I even like to learn history and stuff. But when its taught in college or university I just dont get along. I always skip my social studies classes in university , but I also read social studies in my home. Why is it that I cant hear lecture , but want to study by myself. haha . My life may be a failure , but seeing vids like these give me motivation. These theories and analysis seem like crazy , but I like it because its like that. Im not sure what Im saying is relavant to the video or not. But as you said, we tell a lot to strangers than our own know people. I dont have friends in real life , and family is also out of touch with me , so maybe leaving these thoughts is great. Someone may find it intresting to read. I wont believe that there is no other person who also feels the same way to study. They cant read and fail but they like learning , just differently. Not a Exam lover or grades lover. But life is harsh if you skip degrees.
This video reminds me of a speech by Madara Uchiha: Wake up to reality. He talks about how the world itself is a paradox and everyone is a hypocrite by merely existing because for every pleasure you enjoy in the world, someone else pays the price. He also talked about how “man seeks peace while yearning for war, it’s a paradox that exclusive to man. To seek only peace while discarding only conflict will stop people from being people”.
6:19 So I am in a class of about 25 people. According to the birthday paradox, only 2 people should have a chance of having their birthday on the same day, right? Well, I share a birthday with 2 other people in that class, 3 other person share another birthday, and there is around 3 (could be more. idk everyone’s birthday) pairs of people with the same birthday. All in a singular class of 25 students. What’s the probability of that??
No, you got it the wrong way round. The chance that NO ONE shares a birthday drops below 50% for 23 or more people, that means there is a 50% chance that AT LEAST two people share a birthday. The chance that EXACTLY two people share a birthday is much lower.
Causal loop could also be from Bill and Ted (if you’re old enough or just have seen it)… Rufus never introduced himself, but Bill and Ted came back to their past selves or at this point their current selves and immediately said “RUFUS!!” and that’s how they learned his name… but how did they know the name in the first place???
There is no object and subject. Everyone is everyone. Everything observes itself through your eyes. Hard to grasp? Drop all the ideas and beliefs for a month, only observe and you will understand. You can only observe yourself through someone else’s eyes. Your true self does nothing but leaves nothing undone… it says nothing but leaves nothing unsaid… it doesn’t start somewhere not it will ever finish somewhere. ☮️ ❤️
"The only truth you can prove with certainty, is that nothing is certain." "Does that mean this claim is uncertain?" "All truth is relative." "Is that then a relative truth?" Same idea pretty much. Seems self-defeating.

Anytime I'm finding it difficult to sleep, I just go to this guy channel. I love this guy
You inspire me Aperture.
You are my motivation.
😘👍
people when they go out
preferably a coffee shop cuz he said he went to a coffee shop : sigh another boring day we're just doing the same thing since we've been born ... (a notification pops up preferably yt noty) oh cool my fav channel posted another vid it has to be a good day
this guy after experiencing that: wait up what if i didn't come here today if i wasn't here it wouldn't be repetitive and i wouldn't have thought of that thus making my day no so boring infact good.. because of that video wait what if i wasn't born in the first place (and the thought goes on and on forever and ever ♾️)
'Why is it absurd to say something truthful; about ourselves?' OK that fkd me up a little more than I care to admit.
Best content on RUclips, wish there were more channels like this but even if there was I doubt they’d be this good
Damn that thumbnail broke my brain
i am 16 and certainly losing my mind watching vids of this channel. now i kinda believe that nothing matters. but idk it has also helped me to stay in the moment and not worry about anything...
I do love me videos that make me question my existence
I love this channel. Btw sentence" "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others" is a George Orwel's "Animal farm" reference?
yip,“The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”
After a long day of school it just feels amazing to take a hot shower, lie down plug in some earphone and listen to this guy to talk about deep and philosophical topics in the darkness as i go to sleep.
This might be your best video ever
If someone's very deep, deep down, they're deep.
But if someone is just deep and not very deep, deep down, they're really shallow.
The problem in the starbucks example of the birthday paradox is that we have already selected one specific birthday, and we're asking if anyone else in the room has THAT birthday, not if two OTHER people in the room have the same birthdays
Your voice is so soothing!
another one direction reference man i love this channel
it's just like education & educational system...parent's lesson for kids when even the adults are struggling to solve life ... things started this way because of religions as well ... from birth to kids and youth, we are "taught" to live & accept paradoxes topics & lessons in back of our mind..we as one of species have also become accustomed to the paradox of life, living, death considering all the evolutions since it started on earth billions of years ago from single cell to what we have now a complex life organisms.
This is basically shower thoughts but with an essay accompanying every one of them.
I'm blown. I saw this video 2 weeks ago and I'm seeing here again. I don't understand
Mate I think you should do like a 1 hour video every month I love listening to you,
With the birthday paradox, the odds were about 1/12 (30/365) if there were 30 people in the cafe.
I found it so freaky.
i once searched up an actress bcs i watched her dramas a while back but the day i searched was the day she unalived herself.
while paradox of life baffles me, paradox of _languages_ knocks me out of the floor. think about this: some languages can explain what english can't. let that sink in
Mind blowing and inspirational...Truly a great video, thanks for making it.
8:01 "Trust me", I would because of the trust paradox
love that you quoted animal farm
My friend once said , about a certain restaurant,
"Their food isn't good! You just think it is."
Ok, this is it. Gonna watch the next video with no sound and write down what I think it was about. Then I’ll rewatch it with sound and see how off I was.
thank you for adding the one direction example
*RIP* to all the kids who still believed in Santa before watching this
Existential crisis to the side, very calming vid.
Just so you know, I think it’s because Barney was a stuffy (that physically existed), and his human traits and kind persona that he portrays is imaginary.
Wtf did I just watch? I’d prolly think about this for the rest of the week every night when everyone’s already asleep.
10 seconds into the video and you're already trying to tell me that santa and the tooth fairy aren't real, now i really don't know what to believe
we all lost in the infinite paradox of being
2 minutes in and I had a stroke watching this
Thank You For Another Awesome Video 🌟
We need episodes like this everyday.
that animal farm quote is everywhere but it's so true
Ah yes, *barney*
I loved your video and Always liked these things. Im an introvert who likes these kind of things. Im like brain dead when it comes to study , and I cant even focus on study Im 20 and have no job etc. But when It comes to such topic , even maths is fun. I love maths and science the most and yet I told I cant study. Its not false , I get zeros a lot
I cant be in college , I always rush and run away quickly. Thinking these kind of stuff about life or paradoxes is the only thing that inspires me to read.
I use to dislike school in my days , because I wanted to learn somehting in my life
not study for exams. Teachers taught us like were here for exams not for life
Not many teachers I loved , because they didnt liked me going too deep on subjects.
But life is harsh if you skip degrees.
you know its a good day when aperture uploads
This video reminds me of a speech by Madara Uchiha: Wake up to reality.
He talks about how the world itself is a paradox and everyone is a hypocrite by merely existing because for every pleasure you enjoy in the world, someone else pays the price.
He also talked about how “man seeks peace while yearning for war, it’s a paradox that exclusive to man. To seek only peace while discarding only conflict will stop people from being people”.
i dont think all of us are hypocrites, its more a ingnorance thing. we dont understand/know how we're rly affecting ppl
"Trust me"-him
Also him:
The paradox of trust
When I listen to these my brain takes a step back from life and sees it objectively

The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. -Nelson Mandela
The chance that EXACTLY two people share a birthday is much lower.
thanks for another great and thoughtful video
Causal loop could also be from Bill and Ted (if you’re old enough or just have seen it)… Rufus never introduced himself, but Bill and Ted came back to their past selves or at this point their current selves and immediately said “RUFUS!!” and that’s how they learned his name… but how did they know the name in the first place???
My life is a paradox. I go back to same thing everytime
I always knew there was something wrong about Barney, but just couldn't put my finger on it.
That was a mind bogling video
Oh ya, the barber paradox fucks with my mind too much
Holy shit, I never thought I'd have an existential crisis of Barney the dinosaur
If someone gives the ad at the ending, I am going to watch it all.
you deserve a thumbs up for this one
barney was my childhood :(
Your videos are so good that I Like them automatically
"The only truth you can prove with certainty, is that nothing is certain."
"Does that mean this claim is uncertain?"
"All truth is relative."
"Is that then a relative truth?"
Same idea pretty much. Seems self-defeating.
The last one hits really hard
Life is like a box of chocolates
You know where in my time zone, your videos always release at night, so I always watch them before sleeping and get to have a weird dream about it.
Aperture calm and collective are we
