      I like Hickson , and in terms new guys I like Gordon Ryan , I can't believe Dillon Danis with his cocky attitude ever got his bjj black belt from MG is just strange how polar opposites they are. He is a lot more talented than ppl give him credit for in bjj at least. But in fight things change I would love see Khazmat fight him. I digress lol 😆into my not liking his student

    Most people who are learning want to learn fancy things. Marcelo is giving some great insight into the RNC here. Amazing details that make the difference. Anyone can practice an RNC once with a guy letting you do it, but when someone is defending it is a different game. These are awesome little tips, great video!

    I was getting smashed by bigger guys for the first three and half years until I started working the butterfly sweep. That sweep position has saved my ass so many times. There's a lot of other little details that will help that he doesn't mention, but it's definitely position worth studying if you're always getting smashed by bigger guys.

    I was (still am?) in the same boat as Marcelo. I started jiu jitsu a year and a half ago at 16 years old as a small mexican kid with no kids class, and watching Marcelinho really gave me a model of what I could be (at least in sport jiu jitsu) and what kind of game I could have. Initially training with grown men I think actually helped my jiu jitsu increase in terms of adaptivity, I'm not afraid nor hesitant to attack because of a strength gap. THanks steph and marcelo!

    • @wallghing
      @wallghing 7 лет назад

      From a 155 lbs 5"11 with decent success against bigger opponents: I second the butterfly guard. I also like to play close guard but you have to be good at keeping them busy (attacking from guard) and give them no time to frame up, if they frame up you gotta break that frame, that frame is what gives them the most strength. Without frame and keeping them busy you can sneak a sweep but i find it hard to keep bigger guys down.
      When on top you basically have to be 1 step ahead and work around their will, technique helps but unless you're really good chances are a 220 lb person can force themselves out of your side mount. So if they try to escape you have to transition accordingly, trying to keep someone big down is hard by just applying your weight on them.

    • @koolkonacat
      @koolkonacat 7 лет назад

      JohnKing you need to learn cross facing with your side control. It stacks on pressure. I'm 150 and kept a 280 pound guy down for over ten minutes. Not to mentioned he was well trained.

  • @ShinkaTV
    @ShinkaTV 13 лет назад

    @getthetapjj I see what you mean about the slicing power. Very interesting!
    Also, this seems to put more pressure on the back being pushed into the front, vs the front being pulled into the back. An interesting distinction. Thanks for the clarity, love the channel!

    I'm thinking about moving to NY just so I can get this kind of training everyday, I used to play around with inverted guard and de la riva a lot till I started watching more of Marcelo. Also being 220 pounds, I've realized it doesn't make sense to play that kind of game all the time. He makes it seem so easy.

    are pressure point attacks allowed in BJJ? like could i poke my thumb up under the chin to lift the guys head so i can get the rnc? Cuz there's some point attacks under the chin that would definitely force him to lift it and expose the neck.

    yeah thanks for your advice, i guess itl be better in the long run if i get better at finishing the choke normally or transitioning to something else. someday il probably fight someone i cant finish like that. i also didnt know anything about the cutting of the teeth thing and i would in no way want to cause a serious injury to my friends, even if it loses me a few fights.

  • @lhellyeah123
    @lhellyeah123 12 лет назад +1

    can someone help me with this? i dont understand why people bother fighting to lift the chin? im pretty small and can finish rear naked chokes when they have their chin down, i pretty much just apply a lot of pressure. it pretty much crushes their chin and they either tap from that or lift their chin. of course i dont want to injure any of my friends. could this cause serious or permanent injuries? should i not do it or do you think its their fault for not tapping?

    @zackhanscom most street fights end up on the ground...if you know some jiu jitsu and the other guy doesnt, you will easily control him and either tie him up and clobber his head in, or just choke him out or something
    even if the other guy is striking, a good jiu jitsu fighter will almost always win (unless you get hit with a haymaker right off the bat and get knocked out)
    jiu jitsu is probably one of the most effective martial art for winning a street fight IMO....muay thai too

  • @capitalistraven
    @capitalistraven 11 лет назад +2

    Quick anatomy lesson, It doesn't matter how big you are, you simply don't have anything covering certain vulnerable areas. The trachea, gonads, eyes, and kidneys have no muscle cover so no matter how big the guy it still takes the same amount of force to injure the target area as a small guy. Large persons also only have a modest increase in bone density so small joint manipulations will still break or dislocate a wrist hand or elbow. And yes a 10 year old can do these to an adult.

    size and strength are extremely important when noth are at about the same skill level in fighting. but a 300 lbs weightlifter against a 190 lbs bjj blackbelt...what are the odds?

    • @MrTresto
      @MrTresto 7 лет назад

      I'm assuming you mean a 300lbs weightlifter with no prior fighting training and just strength. The answer is simple: he would get his ass kicked. I'm about 195lbs myself, and I get my ass kicked by smaller guys than me if they are of higher skill.
      Here is a video that might directly answer your question: ruclips.net/video/0tzjcEgPWpM/видео.html . It's more like 260lbs vs 170lbs but you get the idea - the guy who is significantly bigger and stronger gets his ass kicked because he is not a trained fighter.

    In my experience you cannot just think you are going to win an MMA fight only by using jiu jitsu techniques so you may be right but just in a half, because the same way you cannot expect to win by only kicking and punching. MMA and BJJ are different sports, you just cant say BJJ doesn't work in MMA cause if you watch MMA fights and understand BJJ you will notice BJJ is always present cause it is useful not only for submiting an opponent, but controling distance to be safe or attack.

    cant you do these moves with just about anybody? even if you are bigger in you get the persons back u could still choke the face? Ive practiced that to work for the choke.. but honestly Im just learning, and youtube is my primary teacher lol.

    its funny, its a 50/50 thing. i feel like you both have the responsibility. but you are right to an extent. just remember. "bjj is the gentle art" meaning we never want to hurt our opponent per say, we use pure technique and physics to overcome our battle.. plus i never mean that you would in anyway use excessive force just to get a rear naked. im taking it from my own ecperience. ive tapped to someone trying to crank in a rear naked over my chin, but thats my fault for letting him get there =)

    I'm sorry, what? Is there supposed to be a comma there or actual meaning behind what you conclude to be a sentence?

    @AlexLococo you shouldn't punch the mouth as you'll end up with blood poisoning - i've seen it atleast 3 times just so you know, and i doubt it'll stop them, just make them angry (:

    How about a video fighting someone without a leg or missing arm. People think it's easier but it actually throws you off. I weigh 135 and sparred people who are 210 and got to their back all day. But i done nearly froze sparring someone handicapped.

    if you feel that way about bjj, why dont you go and fight anderson silva? hes a bjj black belt and relies heavily on it for his ground game. most mma fighters will say ground game is crucial and bjj gives you that.

    it puts a lot of pressure on the chin, sometimes even cutting the inside of the lip against your opponents teeth when they hunker their chin in. not fun =(
    look for controlling your opponent first in your back control and either switch to an armbar if you cant secure the rear naked =)
