    Learning that I have a long torso for my 5'1' height was a game-changer. I now wear high waisted pants with my tops tucked in or hemmed to be above my hips. I also learned that wearing vertically striped shirts makes me look longer waisted and shorter legged.

    New here - I'm not sure if I'm petite but people tell me I'm tiny! I'm 5'3-1/2" (163cm) 72 years old and slim 47kg. For 72 I think I look pretty good as I do workout regularly and am pretty toned but I have shorter legs from knee down and have a fairly long torso. At 72 I do have a bit of a more mature lady shape, eg very slight tummy and not much bum or boobs plus skinny legs! Not really as bad as it sounds. lol I''ll just try some of these ideas and see how I go. You look totally amazing. I'd love to have your top half! I do know that the shorter top thing definitely works well and I don't like pants that are cut off. Anyway, totally love your ideas and help. Thank you so much. Love from Australia xo

    Petites are not just about height. It's also about width. I am built extremely narrow, and although I'm 5' 5.5", I wear petites. If I wear a regular size, they hang off my shoulders and midsection because I'm so narrow. I usually wear petite sized pants too because regular sizes typically are too long or baggy in the crotch and behind.

      @AnnieParkerConfidential  8 дней назад +1

      Yes, yes and yes. More big name retailers are offering a very nice petite selection (JCrew, Anthropology, Banana), but overall it’s no where near where it needs to be.
      The irony is that a very large sector of women are under 5’4.
      I’ve chosen to pretty much stop purchasing standard pants/jeans, because I’m tired of the hassle of tailoring. You have to hit brands in the pocketbook before they’ll change their ways.
      They’ve always put the burden on the petite consumer to make it work….I’m saying no to that 😉💕

      @@terrybullard7377 pants should fall 1/2” from the ground 💕 A low block heel (1-2”) is enough of a lift while steering well clear of high heel territory. A low wedge is also a great option, or of course there’s always a ballet flat or loafer.

    Thank you, great content! But I have searched endlessly for a wide leg pant that looks good on my 5"3" frame without success. I am not overweight, size 4 but muscular short legs. Any tips appreciated, or maybe not for me period.

    • @AnnieParkerConfidential
      @AnnieParkerConfidential  20 дней назад

      @@patricagj1 Hi Patricia - I’m an inch shorter than you (5’2), and find that the best wide leg styles on my frame are either a totally flat front (no pleats) or maximum a single pin tuck. Also…
      …fitted at the waist for definition - at a size 4 you are tiny, so this should work really well on your frame. I always add a bit of a heel for more length.
      That can range from a semi-platform leather sneaker (as I’ve shown in several videos), a block heel boot comfy for walking, up to a higher heel for evening chic.
      In short (pun intended), I steer clear of heavy fabrics and styles with more than 1 or 2 pleats as those overwhelm our frame. Look for a mid weight fabric, flat-front or up to 2 plats max.
      Add a shoe with a little elevation, to your taste & the situation, for length 🤗 Thank you for the great input - you’ve undoubtedly asked what many others were wondering as well 💕

      Hi Patricia. Hello from the UK. I am 5ft and a UK size 8. I, too, cannot wear wide leg trousers as I end up swamped in fabric around my tummy and hips. I find the best option for me are flat front, no elastic in the waist and a little wider than a straight leg, though it is very difficult to find just the right width in the trouser leg. I agree with Annie Parker,s comments. Some times you have to try lots of options before you find the perfect fit for you.....as I know from experience. Good luck.

    I always am confused about the length of jeans- is it better to be ankle length or past the ankle for both sneakers and a kitten heel.

    • @AnnieParkerConfidential
      @AnnieParkerConfidential  Месяц назад

      Well, most style experts would say that for Petites - the most flattering length is past the ankle (full length) because it's more lengthening. I personally wear sneakers with both ankle length & full-length (one of my 'Constant Offender' moves).
      You can see in the video, that although my sneakers with the green ankle pants aren't AS lengthening as the red pant full-length option, it's still a cute look. To make it work, I'm careful to keep the pant not more than1" above my ankle bone.
      Any higher, and it's very leg shortening / unflattering. (Same w/kitten heels.) Hope this helps ;-)

      Measure your inseam and use that information to guide your purchases. If you are in the US Old Navy has short options and are generally budget friendly.

    Dress length. IMO... Part of the reason why the red pattern skirt looked awful was for two reasons that I think are NO-NO!!! for a petite women, especially a tiny frame like you have. The dress simply has too much fabric below your waist for your tiny frame. If you are petitte and want to wear a skirt that length, try more of a pencil skirt or a skirt with far less fabric. Second, as a tiny petit woman, the pattern was too bold and over powered your frame. Large, loud patterns seldom look good on us!! Even if you are plus size. The fabric excess along with the large, loud fabric is where your eye goes. It not only says "SHORT", it can also say "HEAVY"!!! Along the same lines, I find many women, petites in particular, do NOT look good in the button down shirt with a collar, especially the stand up ones found in Men's wear. The reason is that the collar is usally too big for our small frames. When I used to sew garments, every time I made a top with a collar, I scaled back the size of the collar and lowered it just a bit in the front to avoid all of that fabic trying to exist in a small area. This isn't obvious, but most RTW is made and sized for someone who is at least 5'8" with a long neck, larger face. In the past at least, the manufacturers did not scale it back for petiite necks and smaller jaws. The alteration I made helps a petite woman like me (5'2") from being hit on the chin when I turn my head by an oversized collar. And from having a side view that looks like I am sinking into my shirt because of the collar. This is just MHO though.

      Yes - I believe that I said “skin tone” a few times during the video. I make it a point to say that, but if I didn’t - my sincere apologies 💕💕 I’ll clarify next time, that nude (in my videos) references a skin-toned shoe for a long, unbroken visual line. Thank you for the reminder 😉

    I keep being told that over 50 I should be wearing a below knee dress. I’m so confused

    • @AnnieParkerConfidential
      @AnnieParkerConfidential  19 дней назад +1

      @@willow9790 it truly depends on the person, her comfort level, and height. Frankly, no one has any business telling a woman she shouldn’t wear something due solely to her age. I’m 56 and have zero issue wearing a dress above the knee. At 5’2 it’s more flattering 🥰
      Try wearing a dress/skirt that hits right at the top of your kneecap, and see if you think it’s flattering. That length is long enough that it’s not a mini, yet should still look flattering on your petite shape💕

    what do you wear with wide leg pants?

    • @AnnieParkerConfidential
      @AnnieParkerConfidential  27 дней назад

      @@annachen2481 Hi Anna- you can really wear anything with them, with the caveat of keeping the top fitted, in order to balance the wide-leg/extra fabric. A few ideas from my own ‘wardrobe arsenal”:
      1. Fitted, lightweight cashmere sweater that can be tucked in
      2. Button up shirt, tucked in partially or entirely- you’re looking to define the waist so that the shirt doesn’t overwhelm the frame.
      3. Ribbed tank on it’s own, or with an open blazer
      2. For a night-out, I love a wide leg satin pant with an off-shoulder bodysuit.
      Hope this is helpful 💕😉

    • @AnnieParkerConfidential
      @AnnieParkerConfidential  26 дней назад

      It depends on the fabric, and the event. For example, I wear a pretty heel for a dressier silk or satin wide-leg for a night out event. The heel can be a pump, strappy sandal, ankle boot.
      For casual, many times I wear a white leather slip-on sneaker with a slight platform. It’s a sporty-chic look. 💕😉

    Plus size women are shorter than average, yet these damn manufacturers nearly always make WP (women’s petite) even LONGER than average length. I got older and chubby-and shorter! in my 70’s not taller. Why don’t clothing manufacturers listen? Also, I like tailored clothing, not a tent!

    • @AnnieParkerConfidential

      Completely AGREE, Lynne! I try to do my 'part' in the pressure campaign by only choosing brands that carry petites, and asking brands that contact me - "do you carry petites?" I do feel more brands are starting to offer styles in a petite version - but still, it's limited.
