This song is part of an album "alturas de machu pichu" the group sets to music the popular poem by Nobel price winner Pablo Neruda, of the same title, which appeared in his book Canto General, from 1950. In this poem, the poet sings, subjugated by the greatness of the human creation that he witnesses in the ruins of Machu Picchu, in Peru, about the glorious indigenous past of Latin America, the human miseries, death and pain that majesty often causes in those who forge it. Ese instrumento parecido al órgano que dices y no te gusta mucho es el minimoog un sintetizador que da un sonido psicodelico, que grande los jaivas orgullo chileno y de Sudamérica, ellos son multiinstrumentales unos genios que llevan 60 años tocando, ya se fueron algunos como el gato al quinta el vocalista y con una voz maravillosa, además de tocar varios instrumentos se le extraña un montón, agradecido como chileno de tener una banda chilena como son los jaivas puro orgullo para mi son lo máximo, les recomiendo reacciónar a canción del sur una canción mágica como muchas más, muchos saludos desde chile aguante los jaivas ❤️🇨🇱

Hi! I'm new here...Welcome to "Los Jaivas" universe 🙂 This group is a classic band from Viña del Mar city (my city as well) in the center of Chile, near Santiago. But well known in all Latinamerica (except maybe by the new generation). They play mixing latin folk and progressive rock. Regarding this song, it was on the "Alturas de Machu Pichu" (Machu Pichu Heights) album from 1981, entirely filmed in the ruins, with lyrics from Pablo Neruda (chilean nobel prize poet) who talked about the story of the ancient people of the place and their suffering, lifes, deaths, etc They lived and played in Argentina and Europe, during the 80's and returned to Chile in 1990 and they are still playing together (even though some of they passed away, like the drummer Gabriel Parra and the vocalist Gato Alquinta). Gabriel was replaced by his daughter Juanita and Gato by different singers of his family, and finally by the original bassist Mario Mutis. Finally I recommend to react to "Mira Niñita" a beautiful song from their first albums, I think there is no instrument that could have a strange sound to you 🙂 Best regards from Chile!!

Los Jaivas are often named the Pink Floyd of Latinamerica, some may say Pink Floyd are Los Jaivas de Europe... musically very different, because of their roots and upbringing... Jaivas have been around longer. Some of their members are musically trained and undoubtedly extremely proficient in their instruments, particularly Claudio Parra, their pianist, and their original drummer; Gabriel Parra, considered by many one of the best drummers, from anywhere. Unfortunately, we lost two of them, Gabriel, currently, her daughter; Juanita, is the drummer, and we also lost their main vocalist and guitarrist; Eduardo (Gato-Cat) Alquinta... the other original member, the keyboardist and lyricist Eduardo, retired... the band is still very active, second in longetivity only to the Rolling Stones. Their musical mix is of Latinamerican folklore, classical music, and Rock... very eclectic
I love Los Jaivas and this is my favorite song by them. I am always happy when I see people reacting to it. I am a girl and I do love progressive rock, I don't think it is a question of genre, It is just a question of taste. Traditional music (from everywhere) and progressive rock are my favorite stuff. ...so this kind of fusion always goes straight to my heart. Don't listen to people who say prog rock is just for intelligent people. Some prog bands are just showing off their skills, but not feeling... I guess that's the reason why Dominika didnt enjoy ELP, I haven't seen the video. Btw Instrument that Dominika doesn't like is called moog. Hi! I'm new here...Welcome to "Los Jaivas" universe 🙂
This group is a classic band from Viña del Mar city (my city as well) in the center of Chile, near Santiago. But well known in all Latinamerica (except maybe by the new generation).
They play mixing latin folk and progressive rock.
Regarding this song, it was on the "Alturas de Machu Pichu" (Machu Pichu Heights) album from 1981, entirely filmed in the ruins, with lyrics from Pablo Neruda (chilean nobel prize poet) who talked about the story of the ancient people of the place and their suffering, lifes, deaths, etc
They lived and played in Argentina and Europe, during the 80's and returned to Chile in 1990 and they are still playing together (even though some of they passed away, like the drummer Gabriel Parra and the vocalist Gato Alquinta). Gabriel was replaced by his daughter Juanita and Gato by different singers of his family, and finally by the original bassist Mario Mutis.
Finally I recommend to react to "Mira Niñita" a beautiful song from their first albums, I think there is no instrument that could have a strange sound to you 🙂

una vida de piedra...después de tantas vidas.... Los Jaivas pertenecen a otra dimensión musical.
Oh boy... now, this is another huge rabbit hole. Los Jaivas are often named the Pink Floyd of Latinamerica, some may say Pink Floyd are Los Jaivas de Europe... musically very different, because of their roots and upbringing... Jaivas have been around longer.
Some of their members are musically trained and undoubtedly extremely proficient in their instruments, particularly Claudio Parra, their pianist, and their original drummer; Gabriel Parra, considered by many one of the best drummers, from anywhere. Unfortunately, we lost two of them, Gabriel, currently, her daughter; Juanita, is the drummer, and we also lost their main vocalist and guitarrist; Eduardo (Gato-Cat) Alquinta... the other original member, the keyboardist and lyricist Eduardo, retired... the band is still very active, second in longetivity only to the Rolling Stones.
Their musical mix is of Latinamerican folklore, classical music, and Rock... very eclectic
I love Los Jaivas and this is my favorite song by them. I am always happy when I see people reacting to it.
I am a girl and I do love progressive rock, I don't think it is a question of genre, It is just a question of taste. Traditional music (from everywhere) and progressive rock are my favorite stuff. ...so this kind of fusion always goes straight to my heart.
Don't listen to people who say prog rock is just for intelligent people. Some prog bands are just showing off their skills, but not feeling... I guess that's the reason why Dominika didnt enjoy ELP, I haven't seen the video.
Btw Instrument that Dominika doesn't like is called moog.

Some prog bands with girls: Curved air, Paatos, Iamthemorning, Anathema ( no all their albums are prog, but some are...main singer is a guy, but in some songs they have a female singer), Anekdoten ( cellist is a girl).

Some people says this song is about the people who was build Machu Picchu.
In my opinion is about the death it's conquer all. That's for they sing "when the hands of clay color was convert in clay". And another example is: "a life of stone after so many lives".
