  • Going through my tapes I came across this Video of the original Rattler at Fiesta Texas. This ride opened as the tallest fastest and steepest wooden coaster in the world when it opened with the brand new Fiesta Texas in 1992. The ride was very poorly constructed and went through many reprofiles in its life, it was literally like a different ride every year throughout the 90's. In 2012 it was closed and converted to Iron Rattler.

    The fact that paramount hired this company to build a wooden hyper instead of cci makes no sense

    • @Charlesb88
      @Charlesb88 3 года назад +3

      The main issue with the Rattler coaster was the they made a last minute change to increase height because Cedar Point was going to get a woodie that was higher and they had claimed the Rattler was the tallest Woodie in North America so they had to increase the height to beat CP. This made the G’s and roughness too much. This was coupled with the fac5 that high rain amounts during the building period delayed testing leading to the problems nit being adequately sorted before it debut. Had they built it like it was originally intended it wouldn’t have been so rough. Now the long somewhat boring helix in the end is a different story but overall I don’t think the issue was strictly with RCA of Texas but more with Gaylord Entertainment (owners of Opryland at the time) who built the park before Six Flags took it over years later.

    • @Charlesb88
      @Charlesb88 3 года назад +1

      I don’t know what Woodie your referring to here as being ordered by Paramount from RCA but it wasn’t the Rattler as that was commissioned by Gaylord Entertainment Corp, then owners if Opryland U.S.A. Park in Nashville, TN, who built Fiesta Texas. It was Opryland was that built and owned Fiesta Texas before Six Flags took over the park years later. Paramount never owned this park or coasted or any park in Texas. Time-Warner once owned Six Flags before Premier swallowed them up but never Paramount, who did own several other parks though at the time.

      Wow how can you not realize meant son of beast. the problems that resulted from rattler makes it a failure so it was a bad idea to hire TVs to build sob

    • @Charlesb88
      @Charlesb88 3 года назад

      @@heythere7460 Sorry but that you were referring to Son of the Beast wasn't as obvious to me as it was to you since it's been over a decade since that coaster was shut down. Now that I think about it, Son of the Beast was built during Paramount's ownership of Kings Island but I had forgotten about the coaster and the fact is was a RCA design. Had you specified which Paramount park you where referring to I would have figured which coaster you were talking about.

    • @johnfoltz8183
      @johnfoltz8183 Год назад +2

      I think Kings Island want to do a rush job to have the worlds tallest wooden coaster by 2000 in order to compete with cedar point and millennium force and with Six Flags Ohio. And maybe CCI had a little of projects going on in 2000

    the G's pulled on the original Colossus @ Six Flags Magic Mountain when it does a roundabout circle - THAT always made me light headed & partially lose my vision & breathing! I did not get any of that from the rough Rattler tho! i rode both original rattler and son of beast both made by rcca apparently son of beast was much worst in roughness than rattler, im curious at the end of rattler were the builders apparently drunk or on something heavy because you see the track is super uneven on the last turn before the final brakes is that suppose to be part of the design or did they rush to get the job done before its deadline?

      Brief history of the coaster: When first built it was to extreme but they made a last minute modification to the first drop to maintain its claim as the tallest woodie at the time which was about to be beaten by a new Ceder Point Woodie set to debut. The last minute change and a delay in construction due to higher the unusual rains that year led to to intense first drop not being properly detected leading many lawsuits and complaints. While some coaster enthusiasts love the intense first drop, becuase the of the highly increased the max G forces rose from the claimed 3 G’s to 5 G’s in places leading to it injury count and implants of roughness. This lead the park to redesign the first lift to decrease the height which helped address the roughness/G-force issue. Even with the change Coaster enthusiasts still praised the coaster save for the boring helix at the end. The change in recent years, converting he coaster to a hybrid woodie w/ still track (Iron Rattler by RMC) has been praised by coaster enthusiasts.
