Interesting to know the origin of the words we are learning. It's a beautiful and caring phrase used casually these days!🌸

That's interesting how in many different languages greeting is usually some kind of wishing another person health or luck. In Russian, for example, it's "здравствуйте", which literally means "be healthy"

This makes learning easier when you know the meaning behind it

I like the meaning behind "밥은?" Reminds me that it wasn't so long ago that there were hard times and we're not exactly in the best position again, so.... did you eat rice? 😊

I love learning the origins of Korean words! It helps to understand them, and other words as a whole, as well as the Korean culture, better.

Where does it come from? It comes from the Chinese language. It is a Sino-Korean word. The hanja is 安寧 which literally means peaceful. So it is like saying "Peace unto you''.

Ah... so that's why it has a question mark 안녕하세요 ? It is a question, not a statement. Thanks for the explanation. 설명해줘서 감사합니다.

That's also why you hear people respond with 네~ or 네 안녕하세요? "Yes, I'm doing well" or 'Yes, I am at peace." And you?
