  • Here is my entry into the official ‪@Uwannawatch‬ Classy Brassy Challenge.
    Thanks George, fun project.
Our house was built in 1928 and prior to our ownership it went years with terrible or no maintenance, so I'm constantly fixing and restoring things around here! This is a door closer off one of the old screen doors. Unfortunately the spring is broken on this one, but I restored it anyway. Hopefully one day I can find a spring. Enjoy the video.

Beautiful! Fine example of "they don't make 'em like they used to". I can only imagine these throughout the house. 👍

I never realized they were made from brass. Makes perfect sense when I think about it.

Thanks Matt, they certainly don't make anything like they used to, that's why we all love this hobby so much, right? I appreciate you being here and the kind words.

When I restored the other one a few years ago, I had no idea it was brass, it was caked in at least 6 layers of paint. I was surprised as well!

It's enjoyable to see a piece of otherwise mundane hardware restored to better than new visual condition. Well done.

Brilliant job David, they certainly knew how to build things back in the day. Classy and functional 👍🏻

What an interesting item for the challenge. I don't think I've ever seen a closer made of brass. You did an excellent job

Thank you John! I have several of them, just need to dig the doors out of storage and get them restored so I can try them out!

Thanks bro, well probably not this spring, but maybe one day. It is in sad shape and will need a lot of work. Thanks for the fun challenge George!

That's a classy screen door closer! Maybe you can find a torsion spring on McMaster Carr that will work.

That came out great! If you ever put them back on the screen doors it would be cool to see them in action.

Thanks Steven! The doors basically need a full rebuild, they are just in storage for now, but maybe someday! Appreciate you watching.

Thanks, glad you liked it. Scraped it opening the hood of my truck when it was like 15 degrees, skin tears like paper when its that cold. Getting old! 🤣
