- Here is my entry into the official @Uwannawatch Classy Brassy Challenge.
Thanks George, fun project.
Our house was built in 1928 and prior to our ownership it went years with terrible or no maintenance, so I'm constantly fixing and restoring things around here! This is a door closer off one of the old screen doors. Unfortunately the spring is broken on this one, but I restored it anyway. Hopefully one day I can find a spring. Enjoy the video.

Excellent entry and project! Looks awesome. 😃👍
Thank you John! I thought it was a fun challenge!
Beautiful! Fine example of "they don't make 'em like they used to". I can only imagine these throughout the house. 👍
I never realized they were made from brass. Makes perfect sense when I think about it.
Thanks Matt, they certainly don't make anything like they used to, that's why we all love this hobby so much, right? I appreciate you being here and the kind words.
When I restored the other one a few years ago, I had no idea it was brass, it was caked in at least 6 layers of paint. I was surprised as well!
It's enjoyable to see a piece of otherwise mundane hardware restored to better than new visual condition. Well done.
Thanks Dave, always appreciate your kind words.
Brilliant job David, they certainly knew how to build things back in the day. Classy and functional 👍🏻
I agree, I know it will work just as well as a new one too! Thanks for stopping by
What an interesting item for the challenge. I don't think I've ever seen a closer made of brass. You did an excellent job
Thank you John! I have several of them, just need to dig the doors out of storage and get them restored so I can try them out!
Awesome job, David. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Jesse! I just found your channel and will be checking out some of your videos as well.
Looks better than new. Very nice
Thank you very much, appreciate you being here.
I hear your frustration on Estate Sale paint cans. It looks very nice and shiny. If you are going to reuse it, it will look awesome.on your door. Hope you find a spring. for it. Great job David.
LOL on the paint can, I get burned every time! Oh well, hey thanks for the kind words Dale!
Fantastic Fred G! That is a very classy piece of hardware. Thanks for joining in Brother! Are we gonna get some screen door restos in the spring?
Thanks bro, well probably not this spring, but maybe one day. It is in sad shape and will need a lot of work. Thanks for the fun challenge George!
That's a classy screen door closer! Maybe you can find a torsion spring on McMaster Carr that will work.
Thank ya Magdad, I'll definitely give that a shot! Thanks for watching!
Went from Classy to Fancy real quick! Nice entry!
Thanks Vic! It was fun!
That came out great! If you ever put them back on the screen doors it would be cool to see them in action.
Thanks Steven! The doors basically need a full rebuild, they are just in storage for now, but maybe someday! Appreciate you watching.
Great job David. Really nice entry into the challenge!
Thank you Bill, it was a fun challenge wasn't it! Appreciate your watching.
Looks good nice work!
Thank you Rodney!
Turned out awesome. Rich RSA
Thank you Richard! Always glad you stopped by.
Nice job dude.
Awesome, thank you very much!
Very nice! Looks great! Is the spring still available? You be surprised whats out there. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Jeff. I did some looking but didn't go that deep. I've had a few good suggestions in the comments that I might give a try to. Appreciate you watching.
you should ask Abom 79 if he could make you a spring ? i want to see the door that opener goes on . Thanks Dave
I've had several suggestions on the spring, thank you so much. If I ever get around to fixing the door up I will show it.
That is one cool screen door closer! Nice restoration! How did you cut the back of your hand?
Thanks, glad you liked it. Scraped it opening the hood of my truck when it was like 15 degrees, skin tears like paper when its that cold. Getting old! 🤣
@westhighlandsshop I hear ya!
