All the people on here calling it junk or just throw it away need to remember that in some places it’s not as easy as going to store getting another one. You gotta do what you gotta do sometimes to get a job done. Very interesting video and thank you for posting it.

The bearing surfaces and journal are very badly rusted and pitted. It will seize up after 30 seconds of use then the flywheel will come spinng off.

@@afnDavidI think he is smart enough to see that and polish it up besides it might have bearings on it so then it wouldn’t be that critical. Just saying 😮😮😮😮

Opinions are like A-holes, everyone has one. But I tip my hat to these guys from India, Arab countries and Cuba. They figure out how to fix and repair things, and it actually works. So much for arrogant western engineering. We are spoiled, we just replace everything. Everything is thrown out, or sometimes recycled. But other humble countries don't have it that good. I will take humility over arrogance any day...

The original crankshaft is made of a special alloy steel, heat treated to withstand the forces and torque generated by the engine at work and under load. The donor piece most probably was made of untreated mild steel, not exactly the material you want in a crankshaft. Also the bolt used to secure the donor to the original crankshaft body may well work itself lose in service with catastrophic results. Countersinking and threading the original body so as to accept the donor has further weakened the original shaft. Most importantly a crankshaft is a high-precision piece, very accurately dynamically balanced, which acts as a complete unit and which cannot be messed with or patched up or repaired when it fails. Having said that there are circumstances when one has to make do with what one has, and as such, the skills and dedication demonstrated by this technician are admirable.

Amazingly skilled use of some very basic machinery. If the engine to which that crankshaft belongs is fairly low stressed, and I would posit that it is, this repair should give good service. Spare parts in some places are just not possible, or way too expensive, so the continued service of equipment depends on the ingenuity of machinists like this chap. Well done sir, great job.

My only concerns are that I hope they took the crank rotation into account when cutting the threads and I hope they used a high strength bolt as their set screw to secure it. Also did they make sure the crank after repair was properly balanced still? Other than that I think it shows some good ingenuity being able to repair without welding to repair. The machinist seems to really know what he is doing considering he didn't use a CNC machine. You do what you have to depending on where you live and what you have available to you. Overall, very impressive work. I'd use that crank for as long as I could before buying a new one if a new one is even available depending on what it came out of. I enjoyed watching this video.

As a turner... reading some comments of the so-called experts is real entertainment.
    All shafts are mild steel.
Machined, hardened if needed, and polished to size.
This lathe has dails and gears.
And oh yeah, this video was made to show his skill. That crank will not work again, the off-set on that center will rip any case apart, and the big end journal is shod.
Just to get a bit technical.
And oh yeah, I do work in Saudi... those Middle East countries' comments are hilarious. They won't buy a new crank here... they'll probably upgrade the whole shop if the compressor fails. It's the "Foreigner shops" (Yemen, Sudan, Pakistan) owned shops that struggle, Saudi owned shops have great equipment.
Properly trained artisans are the issue... here.
