    I’m 5’9. I needed a cane for a while since I broke my foot. I learned that a properly sized cane makes a big difference. My leg has since healed and I no longer required a cane for medical reasons. I got the cold steel heavy duty cane and after a while, I cut it down to the proper size for me. It just made a big difference and makes it easy to carry and comfortably lean on. I highly recommend sizing the hollow scabbard to the right size for you. Feels great! Awesome sword cane!

      What is the maximum cut length you can make without touching the tip of the blade? Thanks.

    • @seanbautista2606
      @seanbautista2606 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@mirageycq sorry it took long for me to respond. I just recently saw your question. I measured it, found that you could cut the tube down to 30 inches and allow adequate room for the tip along with room to stuff a little styrofoam for rattle mitigation. The overall length of the cane sheathed would add 2 1/2 inches of handle and rubber tip to your tube length. For example a tube cut to its lowest functional length of 30 inches would make for a 32 1/2 inch cane over all. I cut from the bottom (tip) end of the tube.

    I have an early model with a carbon steel blade, I can’t remember which probably 1055 as CS uses that much of the time. I carry a cane every day, wouldn’t leave the house without one. My favourite is a Cane Masters as it’s more versatile than a sword cane. As for proper length, I’d say that would be whatever the user prefers. I live in the mountains so when going in the opposite direction the ground isn’t the same as it was when I came. My length is 37” but can use one ±1”. The HDSC is about my max, I’m 5’9”, as I can still set on the handle as a make shift seat. I carry a cane by the shaft just above the PoB most of the time. I never considered the HDSC for the field. I don’t go there much these days. I found a shaft in the field helpful. I found that a Cane Masters is helpful getting me out of deep holes or climbing steep banks as I can throw the crook around a branch or trunk and pull myself up. My blade came sharp and still is after 15(?) years. I find a wrist strap important as it allows me to drop the cane when both hands are needed and then easily reclaim the cane. I’ve given up on the commercial ones as UV light deteriorates the elastic. As for blade length, after all of these years I still don’t know, and have come to the conclusion it depends on the immediate circumstance, which of course will be unknown starting out. A long blade is good when the target is closer to the ground. For walking the city streets I prefer a shorter blade if I anticipate muggers. The only time I’ve needed to draw was when 2 dogs decided to make sport of me. I was carrying a Windlass Knob Handle Cane, about a 27-28” blade, that night. I used the shaft on one and the sword on the other. I didn’t draw blood, neither dog could figure out how get past the point. Someone, I think the owner, rescued their dogs in short order. The CS HDSC has the best cutting blade and will cut the usual backyard targets with no problem, but I question how effective it will be when clothed, limiting the target area. A thrust is faster, harder to black, and penetrates easily particularly through clothing. Thanks for the review. The first I’ve seen involving the SS version and you put a more particle light on its usage than most I’ve seen who just imagine how the situation, usually combat, would be and how they think it would be handled.

    Outstanding sword cane. Meant to be used primarily for thrusting and slashing. The " tube" is absolutely heavy / strong enough to kill an animal or person with a head strike. Made 2 improvements : Comes with a plastic end cap , which is slippery. Had to cut it off, which took alot of work, as it's glued on. Basically, used a screwdriver between cap / shaft to pry it loose. If you're cutting it down to personal size, the cap goes with it. Replaced with heavy duty rubber cane tip, I believe 1" size. Just twisted on and stays by friction. Next, bought a plastic shower curtain rod cover, (tube with lengthwise slit) cut to size and slipped down in the tube to protect blade edge from rubbing on the metal when inserted/ drawn. Don't make it too long or blade won't seat properly. Mine was sharp enough out of the box, for intended use. Able to carry mine legally, in Florida, with concealed carry permit. Looks like an ordinary cane in use. Usual high quality Cold Steel product. I own several sword canes and this is the only one with a Real sword blade. Discreet and deadly. Plus, the cool factor is off the charts. Highly recommended.

It fit the bill nicely. Never had to use it for anything but walking but still cool. Never know when some strigoi will pop up.

    Stainless steel is not a good choice for swords, or blades of length. Simple metallurgy cannot make it hold a edge, without hardening it to a brittle fragile piece, to shatter, or break easily. Stainless blade lengths, should always be kept short as possible. Now the blade design on this one, is really strong. So maybe it can run through a few ribs, no problem. I wouldn't try heavy bashing, or hitting hard objects. It's designed to jab, and doubled edged to make it harder to avoid. That's what they are made for.

    I've had this cane since it was first available, some year's ago. And still utilize it as my supposed walking cane. In all the year's i've had it and tote it around; I've only been in the position of brandishing it once. When I present it to the fella, he bolted in the opposite direction.
    Ok, it may not slice paper as some will or would. But then, skin isn't paper and skewing someone is far worse than slicing them. So there is that.

    Nah, you don't need a Work Sharp to sharpen one of these. Just treat it like a long machete or an axe to sharpen it. Grab a Lansky Puck, lay it on a work bench or a stump, put on heavy leather gloves, and then use the Lansky Puck in a circular motion along the entire edge. Follow it up with one of Lansky's large fine sharpeners which have hand guards on them and wallah- a sharp sword cane.

    I like to hike with a walking stick. I prefer a walking stick that would be longer than a practical cane. You can grab a longer walking stick anywhere along its length to get it to work for you. The extra length is advantageous going downhill where it allows you longer reach to help with balance. If I wasn’t going to actually need it as a cane for mobility, I would leave it as long as possible.

    I own the "cruciform" cross section blade cane, but it's only good for poking holes. I can't buy your model in Mass anyway.

    Check your local laws (in some locations having/"carrying" this is a felony) illegal in alot if not most jurisdictions of the US, NOT covered by carry permits in any state as fare as I can find. Any cop that knows what this looks like and about Cold Steel products has instant PC to stop and search and arrest. Wish is was other wise but thats the world we have.
