- This Mitsubishi Raider/Dodge Dakota had faulty ball joints, and noisy control arm bushings. I repaired both problems. I will do another video in the future on replacing brake pads and rotors.

I've been looking for a decent repair video for a truck like mine for the longest! I bought mine used, so right after the 4month warranty, naturally, everything started to fall apart.
I changed the uppers, sway bar with bushings, and linkage, but got squirrelly about doing the lowers.
You did this with relative ease, and that gave me a serious confidence boost. I'm no pro like you, but Imma go for it. Thanks!
Oh, boy. This brought back memories. I've been a service technician at Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram dealerships for the last 22 years. I worked on the Dodge Dakota version of these Raiders back when they were new. I did mostly engine warranty work but I also did front end work on Jeep, Ram trucks, Dakota and Durango trucks as they got older. I need to get me a kit like yours. My universal "Comrad Freight" front end service kit is lean on adapters that fit. The press is so tired that I have to put it in the 20 ton shop press and force it back into shape after every ball joint replacement.
My neighbor has one of the HF kits. I found out after I rented this one. The rental has many more pieces as you noticed.
Best diy auto video I have ever seen.
I always get a chuckle when I see people interlocking wrenches I've worked at places that you could be terminated if you got caught doing that. Haha
Been doing that for 40+ years. Never had a problem.
Best instructional video for my 06 Dakota 2wheel drive. Ty!
Nice video brother looks good
well done Barry, when the job goes smooth , it's like a blessing...
Great video brother thank you and God bless you brother💪
Wow !! You made that job look easy !! That’s obviously correct because you know what you’re doing !! Great job !! It’s ironic that you had a friends Raider in your shop and it just so happens that I gave an 06 Raider , a bit different, mine is the DuroCross,, 4x4 V8 limited slip differential for towing they claim ??? I’ve been trying to find an expert to ask a question about the Raider/ Dakota,,, if I could pick your brain on a subject about these vehicles I would appreciate it very much !! With the price of trucks lately I really can’t go the route of purchasing a new one !! With that said I’ll get to it ,,, I recently acquired an RV and discovered that the 4.7 engine that was installed factory, isn’t going to do it , it’s way underpowered !! My question is is it possible and feasible to swap the 4.7 with a 5.7 magnum or Hemi ??? I’m pretty sure some Dakota’s were equipped with a 5.7 but I’m not sure !!! Do you have any information on that subject?? I would greatly appreciate your insight on the situation and I’ll Thank You very much for any information and you time !!!
Thanks. I’m not familiar with the interchangeability of the dodge engines. Haven’t done any work on those. Sorry.
I really hope you read this. I have an 09 Raider. 2WD same as the one you're fixing. One of my lower joint is a bit lose. My mechanic recommended me to fix both lower. They're charging me $700. My question is, he told me I would need a press to put them back. Is that really true? I noticed you didn't have to pressed them back in place. I'm planning on replacing all four (upper and lower). But I'm confused weather I need to take them to get pressed or just like you did. Hope I get an answer 🙏🏼 🙂.
Depends on how it's done. I found in my case it was better to replace the whole arm. That took care of the mount bushings and the ball joint at the same time.
@@JoDaddysGarage awesome. Thank you for answering. What if I just want to replace the lower joints? Do you recommend replacing the whole arm? In 13 years I haven't replaced any of them. Just the rack and pinion and both tie rod ends.
I have that same socket set have had it for almost 30 years
One of my treasures.
I've got one even older in the green metal box.
@@eldoradony I had one when I got the new one gave it to my buddy
hi barry nice work and very well dun
I would ve paid the 11k to him just for the honesty.
Do you tighten and torque the upper control arm after the truck is holding its weight? Or does it matter?
Shouldn't really matter.
My go to is "put it back together the exact way you took it off"
Now after any suspension/steering work I do recommend to let the vehicle set for about an hour before going to get an alignment
Was this a 2wd truck where is the axle??????
Yes. 2 wheel drive.
How much for a job like that I need mine done
I don't know the current price of parts. Where are you located?
instead of interlocking wrenches i use a piece of pipe.
Did this fix the creaking?
it did.
@@JoDaddysGarage thanks, I have the same problem and the noise sounds exactly the same as this just not as bad, or often just only when I turned the left or right to lock not just a small turns like this one, so I replaced the upper control arms because they were both wasted, and the lower ball joint seems fine no rips or anything. So do you think it would fix mine as well? Given mine is a 2007 and I didn’t notice any snap ring on the lower ball joint. So I don’t know if it’s able to be pressed out?
