  • Shuang Yang Pei Ho Rou Rouan Chien means 'sun frost white crane soft and gentle art'. It is the internal form of the Shaolin white crane, a rare and unusual style of Kung Fu. With 66 postures, it is a complex art taking many years to master. It originated in the southern Shaolin temple in Fukien Province, China. Master Ang Lian Huat taught the art in Singapore after migrating there in the wake of China's civil war. After his passing in 1984, his most senior student, Master Tan Soh Tin, took over his school (Nam Yang Pugilistic Association) and taught Master Iain Armstrong who can be seen in this video.
Filming took place at the Nam Yang Mountain Retreat in Pai, Northern Thailand.

Thanks to Matt Arnold, Brenton Weyi and Jens Kruger for filming, Rob King for sound recording and Master Iain for performing and narrating.
There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way.

I am a student of Huang Shan Sheng’s Yang Tai Chi style. Master Huang was a Fujian White Crane Master before he became Cheng Man Ching’s student. This sounds so much like our Taiji practice.

I met you Master Iain in Singapore, the Tiger Crane at Geylang when I was 19. There was 27 years ago. Yup…you haven’t aged very much since then…

Easy movement pattern to learn. It's what is going on with the mind, the internal visual imagery that occurs contemporaneously with the physical movements, while concentrating on moving blood/chi, all the while applying the appropriate level of tension in each structure and the accompanying breath work all in the moment that is just very difficult to do. No way around it. It's a mind twister to be sure.

Really insightful video Iain, I think I'll get down to Epsom and pick up on the White crane; I can feel where all the hard external training I do it taking it toll on my body as well as sitting at a computer desk all day. Thanks

Smart move Lawrence. The younger you come to the realisation that your body deserves your best possible care, the better the quality of life you will experience as you age. And we all age. Look forwards to seeing you again soon Lawrence.

Shout out to the coffee cup walking guy.
If you'll watch carefully you'll probably notice another one walking between buildings.

Master Iain this was one of the most excellent beautiful real kung fu demonstrations and lessons youtube has to offer - this looks a very good art - i have only learned some basics of the white crane system (a system but not this one)....but your art here seems very very good and deep and i'd love to learn it if i ever have the chance

Had the opportunity to learn this from Master Tan while I was in Singapore. I regret not continuing it for long. Do you have any centre in Australia?

Simeon Verzijl had a video on a school in Australia, It was published about 5 years ago. Perhaps a Google for "white crane school" may produce the information you need.
