Although there is no immediate threat from Russia, some young people in Finland are concerned about their own safety, with many asking if the war could spread.
Russia and Finland share a 1,300 kilometre-long land border. Geographical proximity and the fact that Finland is not a member of Nato has increased stress levels.
Watch how teachers in Finland’s biggest school help children cope with mental health challenges created by the war.

I'm seriously impressed with how well these kids speak English.
They’re foreign, they’re not developmentally disabled - if you learned English from birth you’d be able to speak it well, too
@@AnnikaOBrien i mean yes, but also some of them certainly speak it better than most learning it as a 2nd language. and even in the context of finland, i think most of these kids speak much better than average finns of their age, which is probably why they got picked to be on the video: they're exceptionally fluent.
We consume a lot western media and our culture is very western. There is no eastern orthodoxy and pretty much zero cultural ties with Russia and slavic nations unlike what one BBC reported depicted earlier.
@@AnnikaOBrien They do start early - grade one when they are seven - but not from birth. Except maybe the girl in the beginning, she is too fluent even for a straight A student. All these kids also study Swedish, but are usually less fluent in it.
@@sampohonkala4195 my guess is that she has a Finnish and an American parent. There are many international families in Finland because parents prefer the educational system in Finland over that in the other home country.
My goal: learn to speak English as well as those children
We start learning english in shcool at 9 years old
Apparently you're getting there
Too many people speak English. The world is becoming boring.
@@IouriBelov yes, as a native English speaker (more specifically British) I pity people around the world that have to learn English to go on business trips or get a job. We should all learn eachother's languages IMO.
@@villekyllonen8941 I started learning English at 10 years old, because I took German as my first foreign language. Nowadays, they start learning the first foreign language in the first grade, at the age of 7.
Stay strong, Ukraine!!! 💙 💛
Finland, stay strong! 🇫🇮
I am 22 and I have a serious war anxiety. I am scared every day even though I'm no longer a child. I cannot stand it!

Don't worry, when it comes to a war, your love for your country will guide you what to do. Russia is not as strong as what it show. Your love for your country is the strongest weapon
Tell that to the child when russia starts carpet bombing your city.
Kahne or karne me jamin aasaman ka antar hota hain
Yep, Russia is not as strong as it shows. Russia is MUCH STRONGER!!!
@@ekaterinaekaterina846 use that strength doing the right thing, not invading other countries
@@hoangkim910 invasion other countries??? Ha Ha, its the funniest I have ever heard))
Finland shouldn't worry: Russia will lose all it's military potential in Ukraine
Finland is already in the EU so it's likely troops from other countries would join, or EU countries just directly joining the war. Plus, Finnish Morale and willingness to fight is extremely high along with a great military and harsh terrain. So it would be worse then Ukraine, maybe even a counterattack into Northern Russia
High Finish morale? As in marriages between humans and other mammals are legal? True fact about Findland
@@ingenerchik Are you mad? Or just bad? Finns are well aware of how social media comments are used by Russians to change perceptions. But yours is OTT.
@@ingenerchik there are many types of morales existing. He is talking of military morales and the willingnes to defend own countries.By the way Finland is not different in other matters comparing to other countries either. There are a lot of ppl in Finland who have high morales in other aspects as well. Don't even try to underestimate Finland.
Indeed! More help for Ukraine in order they dont have to carry the weight of our mutual war against russia alone!
With that attitude yeah 🤌
These kids know my language better than me and that’s not there native like bro😢
Yoo they speak better english than me

As a Finn its a pity that most of the children crosscountry skiing is poor.
Miten hiihtäminen tekee ihmisestä köyhän? 😂
@@kakkssjefkstay4467 They are bad in Crosscountry skiing, sorry for my bad english.
@@wankkuri4742 Okay? You have to start from somewhere. I think you didn't start crosscountry skiing as a pro. + Practice makes a master.
Wow in germany i wish the kids can atleast speak non broken english tbh this is embarrassing
they speak finnish which is not similar to english
But us germans find it hard to speak english?
Difference between Finland and Germany or France is that we only dub kids cartoons, and everything else has subtitles. Your language skills naturally develop if you have 3 english lessons a week since age 9 and 50% of TV shows are in english. As a kid I got good grades in english by just watching Disney Channel.
@@ferdi8297 ik i mean 90% of dutch people speak english because of that and border languages
As a finn I can say that 90% of kids speak broken english

I'm 20 years old and since 2011 that mean when I was 9 the so called revolution in my country Libya started and then nato invaded and then war on isis and then the Civil war between east and west and now it's been a year and half with no war but there is a chance another Civil War will break and all of that and I live normally so kids in Finland welcome to the real world

I wonder if your debts disappear if you're country is tooken over.
Would you like to get rid of your debts that way?
@@birgerholm6987 yes absolutely.
I don't know how thoses who fakes mental illness on tic tok because theirs parents didn't bought them the last gadget they wanted and all thoses teens that have auto-diagnosed depression for attention seeking and for likes feel about this???? Theses wars kids have others things to think of than to do some gender studies and feeling special. They have actual problems to deal with. Somes teens here in the westerns countries should take notes and learn to appreciate what they have. I wish thoses traumatized kids can overcome all the horrors they saw. They are already more resilient than many adults. I wish them the best.
Finland should join forces with Ukraine. Finland is not in NATO after all and they have experience kicking Russia's ass before
why should Finland join forces with Slavic country as Ukraine, it is almost same thing than Russia, only name differs? Ukraine army was invading Finland in winter war as part of Soviet Union army , only reason why Finns are not so mad about it is that not many returned to Ukraine.
@@freezedeve3119 Why does Sweden a Germanic country join Finland?
@@moisuomi because Sweden has been ruling Finland centuries and used Finns as their army to conquer Russia so Finland is traditional troop recruiting place for Swedes.
@@freezedeve3119 Why not think of Estonia too?
World to finland's children: can you say: "NATO"?
Children do not make that kind of decisions here in Finland. That is adult´s and parliament´s choice. pölö
Get a life. They are not native english speakers and just kids. If they do not spell nato as you want it then you should really go touch grass

As long your politicians and leader don't make stupid decision. Nothing to worry about.
It’s Russia’s sociopathic leader who made a very stupid decision, which is being paid for with the blood of innocent Ukrainians and Russians.

You want to say media shouldn't report what Russia is doing in Ukraine...?
@@EternalIfe258 Go to talk to Putin and their regime. Russia is the only reason why Finland and Sweden are turning to NATO.
True
Nice to know you at least care about the effects war has on white children
Wait so BBC has been a white supremacist news outlet?
should've them been searching for non white kids to do this interview just for the sakes of having an interview with children that are non-white? i understand that your point is about the wars around the world, but this current one here in europe war mainly affects "white" people from "white" countries, the "black" , "orange", "green" and "cyan" people included within the "whites".
Lets be honest. If this was a war in Africa or some middle eastern country we wouldnt even know about it.
@@markus1642 we'd know less....and no reasonable intelligent person would choose to post something like...'the BBC at least care about black children'. My first reaction is to 'care' regardless of race or colour.
