One thing I've noticed ,for myself anyway, is that anytime I've ever tried to group magnum or hot calibers with a standard width barrel, I've never had any luck pulling tight groups. Usually around 1 1/2" or so. I think the harmonics of the barrel are not consistent. I'm a big fan of heavy barreled rifles, even if they are heavier. Best rifle for accuracy that I've ever owned was a Colt H-bar match ll AR 15. Shooting 55gr v-max. I could cover my groups with a nickel. That's saying alot for me, because I'm just an ol country boy

I was loading for my 7mm. Tried 67, 68 and 69 grains of powder. 67 had 3 touching, 68 was about 1.75” and 69 was about an inch.
I definitely agree with you that the magnums especially in the thinner barrels are a lot more picky with harmonics.

  • @guns4funfreedomkeeper999

I have found skinny barrels to be inconsistent in magnum cartridges even with handloads. Even my Tikka T3X Superlite in 7mag throws them around. Even the loads that shoot well through it, are inconsistent.

Boyds stocks leave alot to be desired for precision. For one they tend to always need a bedding job to get any level of consistency.

  • @tat2ddrac
    @tat2ddrac 5 месяцев назад +7

I hate factory loads, we pulled apart 5 Hornady 450 bushmaster rounds and weighed the powder in each, they varied up to 2.6 grains in weight although the bullets actually weighed the same. Found a hand load with the Hornady bullets it likes and putting 3 shots in pretty much the same hole at 100 yards. This video just proves you can't rely on any particular ammo for any weapon, you have to find what it wants to eat and feed it what it likes.

Just for giggles, you should see if there is a difference with or without the can on the barrel. I always think about how important it is to have a good crown on the barrel. Makes me wonder if that can is throwing the slugs around. Also, you seem to like Remington corelocks. I never have luck with those. Try more federal ammo. Seems every rifle I've owned always performed best with federal. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth. Cheers.

In Europe it is the Standard to have Quick Release Scope Mounts Cause we use some Rifles for different Types of Hunting, Treestand, Hunting in the Alps (where you want something with more Zoom), Stalking, Driven Hunts (where most tend to use LPVO or Reflex Sights) with good Steel Pica Rails, and good Mounts its no Problem without rezeroing your Rifle every Time / Mark your slots on the Rail and Push your Mount Forward every Time you Mount it, on one of my Rifles i have a Zeiss V6 2.5-15x56 and a Meopta R2 1-6x24 both with good one Lever QD Mounts that allways grap your Scope with the same Tork at the same Place (Henneberger Swift) i know others that do the same with simple Leupold QRW2 but you should look to tork them to nearly the same Position every Time the Lever upwards or something like that....
Many European Rifle Manufacturers have their own Mounting Systems that are also very Reliable like Blaser, Sauer, Merkel

Man, I have tested the Hornady Precision Hunter in at least three calibers now; 270 Win, 6.5 PRC, and 7mm PRC (these are the three I definitively remember), and none of it has shot anything better than a 4" group. I even tried different lots in the 7mm PRC, and it did the same thing. I only used the Hornady stuff for getting it on paper. After trying different factory ammo and shooting roughly 1" groups, and my handloads getting all three rifles down to sub half-moa, I'm thoroughly convinced that the Precision Hunter ammo just isn't that great. Lack of consistency, and mixed powders doesn't exactly lend itself to accuracy.

I like burgers 🍔 too! I'm glad there's a loading that it likes. I was beginning to think you should stick with Ruger American! Do they make a 300 prc?🇺🇲✝️🇺🇲

6.5 ammo more expensive. Not sure in recoil but I'd guess the 6.5

Do shooshers have an impact (positive or negative) on barrel harmonics…or is that all a gimmick?

Skinny barrel with a dirty big can hanging off the front of it.
I'm not a physicist but I'm thinking that is messing with your harmonics mate.
Just trying to be constructive HooTee. I am not telling you what's what, just throwing it out there.
As a reloader for quite a few long, skinny- barrelled, centerfire rifles, I can testify that they can be picky.
I enjoy your content mate and appreciate the reasoning for the can on the muzzle every time you fire a new bing bang.

I could not afford to shoot if I did not hand load, let alone have the bullets I want. I am getting some interest in the 300 PRC, but looking around, I am not seeing a lot of rifles in this chambering. In particular Tikka, or Sako
