Going through this myself; the fear of missing. I’ve realized the value of implementing TP training into my everyday practice. We can’t eliminate TP, but we can manage it.
You did an excellent job explaining your target panic and your positive approach to making improvements. It really is hard to understand if you haven't had it before. Good luck in your shooting and racing.
Legit just had this happen the weekend before our national champs. Was a little panicked but glad (if that’s even fair) that it’s not an uncommon thing to have happen. The tips on getting a little more forgiveness in the rig and how that translates to a calmer mindset were gold, definitely gonna try it. Thanks again man appreciate the insight
Hey brother, you talking about your Vegas experience is awesome to hear about, people that don't know what pressure you as a competitor are under will never understand what your whole body is doing through it's amazing,I used to get that way also during archery competition but one afternoon I was watching Levi Morgan talking about that same issue and how he was so nervous and shaking and thought he was the only one that was like that on the shooting line until he noticed the other competitor next to him was the same way Levi could see his arrows vibrating in his hip quiver, so what I'm saying is that everyone is craping in their pants on that shooting line not just you, I've seen you shoot on your channel and you are a damn good shot, so get back on that horse and be proud of how good you actually are and show that audience what you are made of 💪💪💪.
Thanks for sharing man, I use to shoot uspsa and every time I thought " just don't shoot a C" I shot a C. I learned to not focus on what you don't want to do, and just focus on what you want done.
Hey thanks for sharing, I have struggled with target panic for years. All of it the shake, holding, stuck under the target and the punching. The bow tweaks do help and the back tension with a thumb release. The struggle is real but learning from the crappy shooting is growth!
Target panic is _not_ a mental problem; it's actually just a simple (and easily fixed) training issue. The underlying cause is the "command release" style of shot. Which is based on an attempt to _time the exact instant_ of the shot. Michael Braden calls it "controlling the release", others call it "command shooting", "punching", etc. What happens is, because your body knows the exact instant the bow goes off (because you're in full command of that timing), its natural defense mechanisms are activated and that's what causes the symptoms (cringing and/or hesitating when approaching the dot, the huge jerks when pushing the trigger and so on). Again, those are _affects_ , not causes. The fix is the "surprise release", which defeats those natural defense mechanisms by hiding the timing of the release from you. By just a simple technique, the release aid times the shot, not you. And If you don't know when the release is going to happen, you can't anticipate it and the symptoms will go away. I was a 20+ year sufferer from target panic and had all the symptoms you experienced. I now shoot with a surprise release and haven't suffered any anticipation problems since then. So my personal suggestion would be to look into the surprise release (lots of resources on it here on RUclips and elsewhere). _Never pay anybody any money to cure TP_ - you can teach yourself the surprise release for free and it will work. It takes some time and practice but if you really want to be free of it with no relapses, it's the best technique for that.
Didn’t know bout Elite till you shot the omnia. I found a shop this year that had the Lift and Ethos and Hoyt. Never thought I’d say it but walked out after shooting 5 flag ship brands with the Ethos. Smooth mods at 70lbs is legit. Thank you for the videos as now I’m looking at doing some target stuff as well.
About the only thing that helps me shoot a surprise shot is…. Imagining I’m shooting a rifle, we all grew up here learning to shoot rifles deer hunting and what not… my dad would always say slowly squeeze the trigger and let the gun scare you when it goes off… I have to bring my mind back to shooting a rifle every time I shoot my bow…
Great video! I think the frozen release hand flavor of target panic is the one that is overlooked the most. The 10,000# bow and frozen release hand are what I suffer from with a thumb button. I had to go to a hinge last year to save my shooting. I intermittently go back to a button to mix things up but always end up with the pin dips indoors and the frozen release hand on long shots...... back to a hinge every time lol
👍👍 it’s so crazy how easy the mind can go completely berserk over NOTHING! We all can shoot so very well on our home range then when there’s just the tiniest bit of pressure “ bang” we can’t even hit the 10 ring at 20. Even the world’s top archers admit to having all manner of nerves at any event. Silly mind games!
Also saw nascar's highlight on your team, cool stuff bro. Are you going to be able to do the Vegas shoot with the dates changing and the nascar season...
Mantis x8!! glad the word is getting out. No sense in paying 300+$ for mathew's shot sense when mantis x8 is 150$ and both do the exact same thing. Of course Mathew's marketing and all the Mathew's shills are trying to push shot sense as the latest and greatest when mantis x8 has been around for 3 years and is less than half the price. Mantis is the gold standard firearms dry fire training and their archery x8 is excellent.
I did the Shot IQ on line and saw incredible results in one afternoon. Not perfect, but incredibly better and headed in the right direction.

Also, Ace’s book is really short and has a few good tips that you can implement today, and that’s a great start.

It’s all mental. I’ll try ShotIQ this summer. Good video Jeff. Thx
I’ll probably give it ago too. Came highly recommended by many
I think you'd really like Joel Turners program.

I enjoy my Mantis x10. Hope you enjoy it also. Good video. Enjoyed the "couch" talk. Gave me some things to think about with my own shot process.
