Thanksgiving Rhythm Matching Game - Quarter and Eighth Notes

This Thanksgiving Rhythm Matching activity is great rhythm and audiation practice for first, second, and third graders in elementary music in November!
Students will match Thanksgiving-related phrases to their quarter and eighth note rhythm. There are two choices: a red rhythm and a yellow rhythm.

Students can audiate individually and...
a) silently come up with their answer
b) hold up colored icons (paper, cups, plates, etc) to represent their answer
c) move to one side of the room for the red rhythm, one side for the yellow rhythm
🔵 Making this part of your classroom routine:
You might want to read the phrase first, then have students echo it while clapping. The video suggests speaking and clapping/tapping. That will help students decode the rhythm!
🔵 TIPS:
1️⃣ If this video is too fast for students to arrive at the answer, reduce the speed in the playback bar or using the Chrome Video Speed Controller extension
2️⃣ Finding the answer quickly is NOT the goal. The goal is decoding the rhythm accurately using good strategies
3️⃣ Students will want to call answer out. Reiterate that they should NOT do that!
