- When BoJack gets approached by some teenage girls he thinks that they are trying to talk to him, little does he know that they see more famous celebrities nearby. Sarah Lynn takes it into her own hands to try and not get dumped, but it's a bit crazy.
I love how some people here didn't know Andrew Garfield was a real person and thought he was just made up for the show

This is more of the life Louise Belcher would have in her adult years.
Funny to compare the way this kind of scenes with drugs and self harm are portrayed in the first season and in the later seasons.
Here, it's cartoonish, played for laugh.
In season 5 and 6, drugs are presented as much more realistic, a real struggle with addiction
Probably helps that the show's a dark comedy.

When a person has issues as Sarah Lynn clearly did that’s something they have to deal with by themselves but Andrew basically explained to her that he doesn’t care about her as a person and he was just dating her because she was famous
Yeah, he could’ve at least been honest and upfront about what kind of relationship this was before breaking up.
Reinforcing the many other times she’s heard from people she cares about that she only matters if she’s famous.

When you realize how Sarah Lynn has grown up thinking her fame and popularity are the most important thing about her, this scene hits less as the first season being crazier and more like just foreshadowing to what we would learn in later seasons, like Bojack telling her without her fans she’s nothing, her mother exploiting her for fame, and Bojack visiting her after her concert only to just ask her to be on another show

Granted Sarah Lynn had issues, but I don’t like that Andrew only dated her for her status.
I mean thats showbiz, half of the things the famous characters do in the series are fake.

Him saying her "last few albums" tanked since they started dating when she was "the biggest star in the world" implies they'd been dating for a not inconsiderable amount of time. He's been with her for at least 18 months at that point surely and he still didn't think Sarah Lynn had it in her to make a scene in a public place? I think one of the unaprecciated things Bojack gets right is the extant toxicity of even the characters it portrays as what society calls psychologically healthy. Unpopular opinion time: one of the hardest parts of being mentally ill is the people that aren't, and all their unexamined bs
Sigh. It's true. And every last one of them has an opinion on our mental illness, as if they know more about it than we do despite having zero experience with it. And then they judge us anyway, making us feel even worse. Believe me, we don't need any help feeling like trash or blaming us for our own situation. We already got that part down.
Obviously having mental illness isn't an excuse for doing terrible things. It's sad that I even need to add that caveat cuz you know if I don't, someone's gonna accuse me of doing exactly that. But a little empathy really goes a long way, and is greatly appreciated. We're trying, ok? We're really trying. It's hard. Please be patient with us. We aren't looking for a superhero, we don't need or want you to exhaust yourself trying to save us like you think we do. We just need a friend who will stick by us while we go through the long, arduous process of saving ourselves. Just knowing someone is there can make such a huge difference. Thanks.
