Also, census records are highly important and useful to genealogists, and I really do hope that our descendants will be able to access our census data 100 years in the future, as we can for our ancestors now.
Yes, it was a great step forward for gender and sexuality. The census is incredibly useful right now in England & Wales as the results determines the amount of funding for different areas: schools, roads, public transport, health & social care, equalities, anything else you can think of. How much money your local council gets is decided by this.
Meanwhile in the US last year, our president tried to put a question on it asking if people were illegal immigrants... you know... for science... definitely not to deport them

I moved to Canada a few years ago so this is my first census. I really appreciate you guys talking about this! I loved learning about this and feeling more included in the community through this exercise!
Having this conversation is something that is very necessary today, because many young people across the world, really, don't know about this. I really love when people spread awareness on social media about this, because usually younger people are on here. It's great to see you guys spread the word, we all appreciate it!

In Scotland, our next census is 2022. I also just participated in a Office Of National Statistics survey about income & spending. This episode is so interesting! I work for my local government and you guys have actually made me more proud of my role there. You help me see the bigger picture ♥️
Christine and Ben, I'm so proud of you both! It's really nice to see that he's trying to show a sense of community by referring to you as a colleague instead of him being your boss.I think it says something when a superior doesn't want to portray that sense of... well... superiority. As a Canadian and long time appreciator (lol) of your content, I'm just really glad to see this content and I sincerely hope you both feel a sense of achievement in both the impact you've had as creators and entertainers, but also the impact you've had as Canadian role models. I'm around your age but I just appreciate the content you've been pushing on all of your channels and business endeavors. Canadian media is important for so many reasons. I also hope you feel the impact you're having on it, especially in such an underrepresented area ( social media influencers). Now we just need to get you on CBC radio..... please? lol
Watching this podcast makes every taco Tuesday so much better! Also being a canadian I finally understand all the places that are being named during these videos unlike any other podcasts 😂
I study forensic anthropology; we use the census to support a bunch of things when putting together a profile for a set of remains. We do a bunch of observations and math specifically with the bone measurements to get to a probable sex, age and ethnicity, run that through a program to support the visual characteristics, and also look at the census to support the probability of those things.
Just completed my census form last night! It was my first one since this is the first census that I have not lived at my parents home. Is it weird that I was excited to finally complete one? I think it's so fascinating and important!
Census this year never asked me about income or anything other than what languages we speak, read or use mostly in household. I wondered if Government is trying to change our official languages or wanting to enforce more languages other than English or French?
Mister Arora did a great job explaining the census with simple terms and made it very easy to understand! I didn't know much about the census and I'm glad you did this podcast!
I really appreciate you guys bringing Canada and Canadian issues to the forefront on the internet in the way you do. As much as I love watching Philip DeFranco, he mainly covers US news/issues. I'm glad to have a place to go where the perspectives put forward and topics covered are relevant to my everyday life as a Canadian :)
To all Canadians, please fill-up the census. As someone who studied urban planning, I can tell you that the census gives crucial information for municipalities and to different municipalities organizations. It is not a problem for Toronto, Montréal and Vancouver if some people don’t answer it, but for many smaller cities, it can mean that Statcan cannot publish any data about them. In some places, the census can be the only way to know about immigration trends, the mode of transportation used to go to work, household characteristics or poverty. For any college students, you probably have access to older census through your school. Your library website should have all the info, but you’re probably looking for CHASS. It’s a census analyzer from the University of Toronto and the data are bilingual. For people who like linking stats with maps, you should check Statcan census geography if you’re looking for boundaries at different census divisions.
this is honestly my favourite episode of the podcast! even though I'm in India, it's really nice to get more informed about things, in general!! would really love to watch more of these videos 💜
Let's praise Christine and Ben, how this plataform that Cristine made for fun and a way to be herself now is being seen in such a positive thing that people in the Goverment are interested and willing in have conversations for the younger people, this is such a huge step and honestly a good one!
Great to see this! I'm a transit planner in Ontario and use the census all the time at work. I'm excited about the new multi-modal commuting question :)
I'm not all the way through yet, but I'm curious as to whether the census in Canada would ever be a legal requirement to fill in. In the UK it is and you can get a sizeable fine for not completing it. We did an online one recently and it worked pretty well. The UK gov website is a bit of a piss take, but I at least trust them to look after my data (reaaallly hope this isn't misplaced trust ha).
Wasn't it the UK, who had placed a lot of covid test data in an excelsheet and they suddenly realised that a sheet is only so large, so they lost a lot of information?
@@snitzchelyay yeah. Embarrassing much. I particularly recoiled at that as a programmer and someone who actually changed a company's customer service system from using Excel to using a database as it was causing problems for so many reasons. Jesus. Stuff of nightmares! I put that crap down to current gov uselessness. I still have faith in the census and hmrc (tax office), although the latter does try my luck every year lol. Our government is generally an embarrassment at the moment. Canada sounds like a fantasy!
@@bladepanthera I guess tax offices rarely are on lists of things to be most proud of. There is a scandal here like every other year, if not more. Makes for great satire though, so I guess that's a win. Always nice to hear that someone is changing data handling for the better 👏
Here in Italy the Gov wants the data: not sure if there is a fine, but if you don't submit your census, the local offices will ask to fulfill, and continue to ask, even sending a clerk to knock and politely asking in person "can we have a word? Let's fill out that paper, should we?"
Census people came to my door yesterday but I didn’t realize that’s who it was (I didn’t even look out the door lol) and was like “omg eww people I’m not answering the door, it’s covid times.” And they left my letter in a bag on my step... oops.
As an economy and business student i often use census data (not canadian tho), so hearing about the process and all of the behind-the-curtain work was absolutely fascinating. Thank you, Ben, Cristine and Arora, for talking about such important topics and spreading the knowledge. .
His view on education is something I'll keep with me. I've been struggeling with anxiety because I have this clear path of career I want to take, but maybe I should trust that my career will take me on my journey. Thank you for keeping that in here ❤
It really spoke to me too, I'm about to finish my degree and I'm already getting nervous about finding a job etc. But it doesn't need to be the perfect job right away and I have to trust that I will find my way.
I've felt the same way at every point in my degree path . When I took my honors degree with the plan to go to grad school, I wanted to be a prof. But now that I'm almost done my PhD, there's SO many other things that I want to do too, and it really comes down to taking a bit of a chance, sometimes being nervous and uncomfortable, but still dipping your toes in to see what bits and pieces speak to you along the way. Sometimes I wonder if I wasted my time going to grad school now that I don't plan on being a prof, but then I look back at it and realize that I haven't exactly been unhappy even though it didn't go according to plan. And it turns out that the time allowed me to figure out what I really wanted, and develop the skills I needed for that. And it really was little seemingly random decisions that culminated in where I've ended up at this point. So I think it's perfectly fine to feel a bit nervous about not having this concrete plan, because it will probably go in a way different direction than you planned it anyways!
@@lizzybee16 as someone who is currently in grad school, unsure whether or not I will be able to land a PhD, thank you for your comment. I've always thought becoming a prof was my career path, but maybe I should let myself find out along the way! So again, thank you ❤

these two have taught me more about my own government than anything else
Listening to Cristine and Ben talking about Canada makes me want to move there :'
Where are you from?
Same!
Please do! We need more people! Especially fans of Cristine lol!
@@taylorpoole3949 indonesia💀
@@elisabetmargareta5602 I've been there and it was beautiful! Right now Canada isn't as great as it was a decade or so ago but I do like it here too
This is so Canadian, & I love it. Census in the US is starting to get a bit more revival for more of us in the Xennial & Millenial range, so it's nice to get the Canadian view on theirs. The way he said it's like a family portrait is really a great analogy!!
I am from India , I assume he is from India, gotto watch it all.
Ben's pronunciation of his name was pretty accurate.
Lol. India
@@megha6028 Thank you!
I moved to Canada a few years ago so this is my first census. I really appreciate you guys talking about this! I loved learning about this and feeling more included in the community through this exercise!
Me, an Australian teen: listening to this intensely while walking to school
To everyone commenting "I'm not Canadian, but still watching this" - this is the official *Mr. Worldwide* button.
Having this conversation is something that is very necessary today, because many young people across the world, really, don't know about this. Fortunately some parents tell their children what Census is, but some people watching this probably don't know. I really love when people spread awareness on social media about this, because usually younger people are on here. It's great to see you guys spread the word, we all appreciate it!
I agree!
Totally!
This is the only situation (having your boss on) where i forgive you for not calling us super simps.
Where my super simps at ???
I didn't know that I needed a pep talk from the Head of StatsCan today on my school and career choices, but here I am and I am grateful!
Haha literally opening my census right now. Came in this mail this morning. Perfect timing
Am I a Canadian citizen? No. Did I watch the whole thing? Yes.
Calling Ryan Reynolds The Green Lantern (instead of Deadpool) is pretty funny when he wishes everyone would forget he did that movie xD
FINALLY y’all collabed with Anil!!! Love his toy review channel 😜 J/K Canadian here loving the total statscan geekout 🍁
Also: smart to cover these topics with bill C-10 in the works (I’m pretty sure Cristine & Ben would do this kinda thing anyway, but still smart for Canadian creators to be thinking about Can Con) #CensusFOREVER #CANCON
Me, an American who filled out the census back in 2020: This is the quality content I signed up for!
What an amazing person! Dr Arora is really making me feel proud to be a Canadian today
I'm really looking forward to this episode even though I'm not in Canada, I feel like it's going to be super informative and interesting!
I’m from Jakarta, Indonesia 🇮🇩 this won’t stop me enjoy my early Wednesday listening about Canadian stats LOL #shoutouttosoutheastasiasimps 😆👌🏼
I loved today's Podcast. As I love every Podcast. Its not always about the content, it's how you two present it to us.
I just realized i have one Canadian friend i will in fact call him from America to make sure he does the census lmao
Fun fact: the reason why Jesus was born in a stable was because his parents had to travel to complete the CENSUS!
Yay another planner ☺️
also a Canadian planner! I look at census data more than any other website, especially doing consulting work.
this is honestly my favourite episode of the podcast! even though I'm in India, it's really nice to get more informed about things, in general!! would really love to watch more of these videos 💜
Your chief statistician seems way cooler than ours in the UK
Everything seems so much cooler in Canada..
Yea Canadian’s seem nicer overall lmao
Awww 🥺 thanks! ♥️
I love how wholesome you guys are and your boss! 🥺💕 all the “no really, thank you for having me” are making my day better
The uk puts stamps on letters to remind people to complete the census, it was everywhere on the lead up to census day 🙂
As a statistician, this makes my heart very happy!
Let's praise Christine and Ben, how this plataform that Cristine made for fun and a way to be herself now is being seen in such a positive thing that people in the Goverment are interested and willing in have conversations for the younger people, this is such a huge step and honestly a good one!
Poland also has its census this year and words about family portrait realy speak to me ♥
This is the responsible citizen content we love to see. Happy Census from a fellow Ontarian!
Ahh, yes, my cerebral palette cleanser before Frenemies. I love Tuesdays.
Same! 🤣
Great to see this! I'm a transit planner in Ontario and use the census all the time at work. I'm excited about the new multi-modal commuting question :)
I complete the Canadian sensus this morning proud to have done my dutie as a Canadian citizen.
This was my first year filling out the census, and I got the long form! Loved it!
What why didn’t this come up in my subscription feed omg! Love this!!!!!
500$ fine if you don’t do it.
I'm working for the census this year :D Yay!!! It genuinely feels so good to be a hands-on member of Canada in this way.
That was super cool! I just filled out my census form yesterday and I wish we had more of Canadian approach here in Poland 😞
I'm Australian, but I still watched the whole Census Podcast (and checked out the music playlist!) 😅
Census people came to my door yesterday but I didn’t realize that’s who it was (I didn’t even look out the door lol) and was like “omg eww people I’m not answering the door, it’s covid times.” And they left my letter in a bag on my step... oops.
😂
When I started reading this, I half expected the quote from Silence of the Lambs lol!
As an economy and business student i often use census data (not canadian tho), so hearing about the process and all of the behind-the-curtain work was absolutely fascinating. Thank you, Ben, Cristine and Arora, for talking about such important topics and spreading the knowledge. .
Ben cracking up, cracks me up 🤣
I’m from Puerto Rico so this definitely did not have to do anything with me. But I enjoyed this Taco Tuesday soooo much.
Mr Arora. On behalf of New Zealand 🇳🇿 thanks for mentioning us.
I really love the fact that cristine or ben put caption on their videos
Filled mine out just before watching!!
So again, thank you ❤
as a fellow canadian (NS) i am so glad to have discovered your podcast. compared to other podcasts i can really feel the canadian in yours and it so refreshing & real xo youre just as cool as the others (i.e. H3H3) but you have the canadian morals i can relate to. it feels like home here xo
