I remember reading about his movie many years ago in the Guiness Book; they said it was on one of the worst movies list.
Yet there is nothing bad about it at all, and in fact except for the size of the actors there wasn't anything controversial or remarkable about the movie, plot, and presentation for the time.
They were just too sensitive about being sensitive.

One of the greatest Westerns of all time!....
... or at least one of the strangest. =)
Billy Curtis (The Hero) went on to portray Mordecai in "High Plains Drifter" in 1973. He acted from 1932's "Tarzan the Ape Man" (Evil Dwarf, uncredited) up until his death in 1988. He was also one of the Munchkins in "The Wizard of Oz" (1939).
Yvonne Moray (The Girl) appeared as one of the Lullaby League Members (uncredited) in "The Wizard of Oz" (1939). imdb has no date for her death, but FindAGrave.com has it listed as 1974, but does not say where she is interred (search for Yvonne _Bistany_ Moray).
'Little Billy' Rhodes (The Villain) appeared in "The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm" (1962) as Grumpy the Dwarf, the Danny Kaye film "The Court Jester" (1955) as one of Hermine's midgets and as the Munchkin Barrister in "The Wizard of Oz" (1939).
Billy Platt (The Rich Uncle) appeared as a Dwarf in 1916's "Snow White." However, _he didn't_ appear in "The Wizard of Oz."
John T. Bambury (The Ranch Owner) appeared as a mole man in "Superman and the Mole Men" (1951).
Charles Becker (The Cook) portrayed the Mayor of Munchkinland in "The Wizard of Oz" (1939) and as an Evil Dwarf in "Tarzan the Ape Man" (1932).
Nita Krebs (The Vampire; Nita, the dance hall girl) appeared as one of the Lullaby League Members (uncredited) in "The Wizard of Oz" (1939).
Karl 'Karchy' Kosczky (The Barber) appeared as Munchkin Herald #1 and Sleepyhead in "The Wizard of Oz" (1939). He passed away in 2011.
Jerry Maren (Townsperson uncredited) was one of the Lollipop Guild Members in "The Wizard of Oz" (1939), as a Mole Man in "Superman and the Mole Men" (1951), was an Ape Child in "Planet of the Apes" (1968), portrayed Boris/Rah-Rah in Sid and Marty Krofft's "Lidsville" (1971-1973), had an uncredited role in "Tron" (1982), was Little Critter in "House" (1985), was one of the Dinks in "Spaceballs" (1987). He passed away in 2018
    .
George Ministeri (The Blacksmith), Fern Formica (Diamond Dolly), William H. O'Dorcharty (The Old Soak), and August Clarence Swenson (Preacher) all appeared as Munchkins in "The Wizard of Oz" (1939).

"Buell recruited a troop of actors under four feet tall formerly called the Singer Midgets that Buell renamed the Jed Buell Midgets."
