As a kid growing up in 70s/80s Britain, this film was often shown on TV during school holidays.
Whenever I spotted it in the TV listings I made sure to tune in - loved this along with 50s B-movie sci-fi.
Dont you just love the music and the efforts made in these movies. wonderfull times and movies.
Love it. High quality for 1961.

My mother had a profound appreciation for classic monster movies, particularly the original King Kong and this film which she cherished deeply. It's been approximately 55 years, yet the memories remain vivid in my mind. One scene that always stirs deep emotions in me is when Gorgo momma, a towering creature, places her foot upon the enclosure's edge, enabling her offspring to escape to freedom. This moment, so powerfully depicted, never fails to evoke a sense of poignant nostalgia in me. Additionally, I must acknowledge the exceptional soundtrack of the film, a sentiment echoed by many others. Its a compelling composition that greatly enhances the entire movie's impact, and I wholeheartedly concur with those who praise its heartwarming quality.

The British version of Godzilla!! Love it 👍👍
And, don't forget about Dublin, Ireland they had also listed.
Easier to digest the UK version? Gorgo looks as if he suffers from idiopathic facial or paralysis - Bell’s palsy. My mother’s friend had it but recovered with proper care, regimen & treatment.
Fun Fact:It was made by the creator of The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms(which inspired Godzilla)and this film is based off of Godzilla
@@brandonbeverly3607 didn't know that! Thought Godzilla was inspired by the Atomic bomb dropped on Japan!!
@@antoinettegreen5344 The Rhedosaurus was awakened in the arctic when it's lair was destroyed by a nuke and even the creator of Godzilla said that movie was a direct inspiration for that movie
I went crazy over this movie when I was a boy, 7 years old in 1961. My dad took me down to the MEMROSE THEATRE in Norfolk, Va. where it was playing for months. The first time was a Friday night and the line to get tickets was all the way down Colley Ave. on the sidewalk and it turned the corner and went all the way down Raleigh Ave. As a boy, I had never seen anything like that. It was so exciting I could hardly stand it! Those were the days when movie going was something you could hardly wait for! I still watch this several times a year and I have the original movie poster from MGM 1961. It's wonderful!
"LIKE NOTHING YOU'VE EVER SEEN BEFORE"! on the top of the poster!
Excellent modeling and dioramas!!!
Unforgivable shameful military stock footage using American insignia as 😢
Great memories!
A true happy ending! Well, except for all those poor people who died....and for all those ancient buildings destroyed in my beloved London! But, in the end Mom saved her child! Fine movie, i enjoyed it! Thank you for uploading it!
It reminds me of a short story about a huge creature found on the beach. The scientists declared it but a child and it is nearly 100ft long.
Pity it didn't get as far as the Barbican Centre
Watched this last year for the first time since the 70's, and it was a pleasant surprise. It's not dated very much and it's a decent film for what it is. It works because it sticks to the original Godzilla formula of man v nature and the latter being too strong for the formula. It doesn't have too many supporting characters like some kaijus. There's no comic relief. The model work is good and it's quite harrowing at points. It's really good for what it is. Also much better than the likes of Repticilus or Yongary.
The original Reptilicus didn't have that spurt of acid, that was added for the American cut of the film.
Never ever seen these wonderful movies!!! So well made and written!!! Thank you You Tube!!! It’s worth paying a small fee every month also for no commercials!!!
Without a.doubt this is the most beautiful theme to any science-fiction or monster movie I have ever heard. The way the composer blends, the monster, with the little boy is incredibly ingenious. The music representing the little boy is heartwarming. Kudos Mr Lavagnino.
Two other beautiful SciFi scores: The Time Machine (Russel Garcia) and The Bride Of Frankenstein (fFranz Waxman)
@@solowcello Yes, the original The Time Machine.
@@solowcello Also 'Forbidden Planet'.
As a Godzilla fan I love this movie, wish they made an updated version of Gorgo.
Far better than any Godzilla movie!
I remember this movie vividly. I was 8 year old when it came to the local theatre. There was a full page color ad in the newspaper for the movie. All the kids in the neighborhood begged our parents to let us go see it. They gave us each a quarter and about 8 of us walked to the theater to see it. I remember those red eyes scared me to death. I had nightmares for a week.
@deplorableneanderthal1265....Yes, being a kid +a vivid imagination + monster movies= a great time..!!
🤣🤣🤣
A great classic monster movie. I loved the theme---that the monster was just a mother regaining the infant that the humans had stolen. And the warning at the end----that man should be wary of boasting that he is lord of creation----seemed very appropriate.
Of course, you have to suspend your disbelief to enjoy the story. Even as a kid I realized that the first thing the authorities would have done would have been to grab the baby monster and put it in the path of the rampaging mother. WAY better than letting her stomp half of London flat trying to find her baby. But that was part of the message about watching our hubris. Still, a great old fashioned monster movie.
In any fiction you must suspend that belief to enjoy them. If you can't you are impaired from enjoyment.
When it comes to suspension of disbelief, fact is stranger than fiction. Look at the wars, the chaos and the abject stupidity of politicians and those who make our decisions, then tell me about suspension of disbelief 😎 If Gorgo's mum popped up in London, do you really think 'the authorities' would do the right thing?

Fact is always stranger than fiction. Real suspension of disbelief comes when you start believing politicians, when you accept war, chaos, greed and abject stupidity as normal. If Gorgo's mum popped up in London, no doubt the idiots in charge would cause more destruction than a runaway dinosaur 😎
A great movie about an Irish Godzilla. But probably should have been named "McGorgo". Anyway it is excellent.
O'Gorgo.
I knew this film existed, but never actually saw it.
Looks solid and better than I expected.
@deadby15 Hope you enjoyed it!
I saw it every time it came to a rerun theater in my hometown,
since it premiered in my country in 1962. That made it about 10 times.
I was only five years old when I saw this movie and I was really blown away, scary 😱 night, for the time they were the best special effects
Thank you for bringing back those fond memories
For uploading it and recommending it.
Bad acting really crap rubber monster rubbish story line .....
Brilliant loved every minute ❤
Good movie and fun to watch. At least the science Isn't too wonky until the mom showed up. If you can accept the idea that a crocodilian from the Jurassic could withstand a 5-inch armor-piercing shell, well if she couldn't it wouldn't be much of a movie. I saw this movie in the theatres in the 60s and I enjoyed it just as much today as I did then.
Incredible music, incredible score, incredible effects, incredible MOVIE! Far beyond the Toho work (especially pre-1980's) on all levels.
There is also a giant ape one too by the British.
Thanks CCC for a real classic 💪💥🦖🦕🫶❣️
That kid is far and away the best actor in the entire film. And to be able to do an accent authentically at that age is incredible.
Maybe he's Irish, then there's no need to do an accent....

oh wow! i remember seeing this (a repeat on tv) way back in about 1980-something .. it made such a huge impression on me for some strange reason... how cool sto stumble upon it again! kinda made me smile seeing it again..
All things considered, this is a pretty good movie. Lots of aircraft and ship shots if you are into that sort of stuff, and the quality for a 63 year old film is excellent. The creature is a bit more cheesy than Godzilla (1954) but it's still well worth watching. The British are much more subtle with the destruction of London, it's not in flames like Tokyo after Godzilla got finished.
I do love those wiggling ears.
Subtle? London Bridge, Big Ben and Piccadilly Circus were totally destroyed!
yeah, and Godzilla romped across half of Tokyo and a lot of other places. Maybe subtle isn't the word but the movie was a lot less devastating than any Godzilla movie.
Thank you for this!
I was seven when this was released. I loved it, loved my Gorgo comic and every monster comic and film. My tender heart bled for them all. I'll be a septogenarian lady this winter and I still love a cryptid story and all science fiction. I have written half my short stories in the genre.

The terribly done Gorgo monster debuts at 16:10. It is so awful that it is amazingly awesome.
I'm not much on films like this, but however, this was a treat. Even though it was fiction...Something can be takin away from this. Never ever underestimate the power of a mother who loves its child. All these greedy people had to do was to let the baby go. In the end, momma and baby won while man and his stupide ways got MASHED!

This brings me back. I remember as a little boy going to the Dorkins Circus and seeing Gorgo. I never could figure out how they got it to ride a unicycle, those things are hard! Good Day!
Well Done. Great watch. Enjoy. Thank you.
Love this movie when I was a kid!!
I could never remember the name of this movie.
Pretty good for a Saturday afternoon kids matinée movie back in 1961. I would have loved it if I were a kid (while getting sick to death stuffing myself with milk duds, over salted popcorn and good and plenty candy) The two gentlemen who caused it all certainly have some explaining to do after half of London got blitzed, all because they wanted to make a quick buck!

Excellent movie thanks so realistically portrayed 👹👹👹🤟🤟💯🙏
Good one ccc thanks again

Scenes we'd like to see -- Gorgo vs. Godzilla. Gorgo vs. Hedra. I dunno. I'm glad this is a one-off. Gorgo had no future then as it would now. There's a new Godzilla movie coming out around Christmas as I recall. "Godzilla Minus One" I think. The only changes to Godzilla from the 50's and 60's are -- nothin'. Same plot for how many years? The best were those silly made just for kids 60's and early 70's ones; my favorite being "Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster" complete with with a wild and crazy psychedelic club scene. The intro was so totally well done, colorful, everything moving and swirling around like one would expect out of some early 70's psychedelic nightclub where the action was hot. Lol! I don' know nothin' but that particular movie played on my town's local TV on Saturday mornings culminated with "Wrestling from Florida with Gordon Solie" could not be beat. My jaw dropped at the premier of the Ultimate Warrior! Where did that beast come from? Bigger 'n Gorgo, that's fer sure, man. OK. I digress. Happy to see this film posted here and in great resolution. It is important to keep these (cheesy) films alive as they are time capsules into a history carved up beyond all recognition.
Well, I don't necessarily disagree, but it's worth pointing out that since this comment was Made "Godzilla Minus One" came out and not only became a HUGE success but is also basically celebrated as a masterpiece.
One's mileage may vary of course.
But in any case the commercial future of Godzilla and japanese Kaiju movies (including or especially the more "serious" ones) certainly seems guaranteed for a long time to come.
Personally I'm also quite partial to the silly 60s extravaganzas and think it is quite regrettable that they would have no chance in our current culture that continues to be obsessed with the "dark" and "edgy".
Super! Thank you very much!
Loved this movie as a kid and as an adult !! I always thought the baby theme was a fantastic idea . Size does matter !!
