- Today's Post is a Long PSA inspired by a great conversation I had with a client this week that helped me understand why people are so confused out here. I'm talking to both--loc clients and the 'innanet sistalocs experts" on this one.
WHY is it that the loud and wrong people are so convincing to the innocent?💁🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
While I do not support the business entity of the brand, I still have respect for the original intent of an established process that was outlined to separate those that are trained in the system versus those that are not. I respect the legal protections of the trademark and that's it.
When it comes to people making claims about what someone's hair is or isn't, it is very simple. If you have not been trained in the system of the brand and what constitutes a set of Sisterlocks®️, why are you running your mouth about someone's head? And more importantly, why are so many listening to them? People, it doesn't matter if cousin Pookie told them this or that about the class-- they're UNVERIFIED without proof of compketed training and approved work.
You CANNOT determine if someone has Sisterlocks®️ just by glancing at a set of small locs. PERIOD. You would have to go through their hair in sections to check for certain things, so again, when folks get on social media talkin' about those don't "look like" Sisterlocks-- without touching your head without having taken the class--girl bye! Half these people don't even understand what the trademark means and their explanations sound real dumb when trying to explain in these social media groups. News Flash: it's okay to say you don't know... or here's an idesa--just keep scrolling.
Know your lane.
If I want a second opinion about a medical diagnosis, I'm not going to go to my friend's cousin who has "doctor friend" that told her a few things on a given topic? So why would I listen to a cosmetologist who has not taken a single class in any type of hair locking to include the brand and listen to anything s/he has to say about the maintenance and upkeep of my locs???? Make it make sense.
SO HERE IT IS...
Sometimes stylist can get salty because clients deciding to lock their hair effectively takes money out of their pockets. It's ok to feel a way about losing money, but a REAL boss would see that as a positive for the client and/or a potential learning opportunity to expand his/her skillset and seek training to learn the art of loc maintenance. A weak-minded person would focus on trash-talk and making the client feel bad about HIS/HER choice to lock nd that's low-down in my not so humble opinion.
Clients-- stop giving power to opinions from insignificant people.
If you went to a bootlegger who said they "can do" Sisterlocks®️ but you took the shortcut trying to beat the system and save money and didn't verify anything before they butchered your hair, stop wasting people's time asking if you have Sisterlocks®️. You already know the friggin' answer.
If you need verification, go thru the proper channels to get correct information, not speculation....but if you're going thru a reputable source to begin with... would verification be necessary????
And to my fellow PROFESSIONAL Sisterlocks Consultants/colleagues-- STOP PROTECTING folks who do janky ass work frfr. We are partly to blame for how screwed up this community has become because we have swept shady and poor practice under the rug under the guise of "loyalty" to the brand. This mess remains mind-boggling.
