Thanks for this TIm - Great interview. I'm personally studying for my IEng Qualification fro the ICE. I have Davids Book, as i heard through the grapevine, that you were tested at ARUPs in Cardiff with questions from Davids book - so i invested in his book. Iv'e flicked through it (and its great), however, hearing this interview, i will take it more seriously (haven't been able due to job position and experience). Thanks again Tim.
The book is fantastic, and a great investment towards your own competence and understanding the behaviour of structures without all the complicated theory which academia often focusses on. IStructE interviewers sometimes use questions from the book, though according to some comments in our Forum, they appear to be getting it wrong themselves! (Is the rumour I was in Arup Cardiff?? I've never stepped foot in an Arup office nor Cardiff!)
Great video! I noticed the Amazon link in the description does not work. I would be really interested to have a look at your essential reading list. @The Structural Exam
David Brohn made a lot of claims about recent Graduates that I would disagree with. I graduated 10 years ago from not one of the best ranked universities in the UK. Let me tell you this we had to learn all the basic concepts and preform hand calculations starting from static analysis to moment distribution; plastic analysis and Dynamic analysis. I know most universities put a lot of emphasis on these. The claims he made about students don't understand these concepts are absolutely biased. The istruct is a money scheme institution sadly. It was made to protect the elite structural engineers. It is a low paid industry for most graduates who get into it and after years of sweating; they don't achieve much. It's one of the worst sector to get into for a young graduate who is hardworking and ambitious.
Inspiring. Thanks Tim & Dr David.
I've learned a lot from the generosity of these two men. David and Tim are doing great things for graduate level engineers.
And likewise we learn loads from younger engineers too! One of the most important things to realise is there's so much to learn, always.
@@TheStructuralExam Pl provide details of Prof Tim ?
