Being a journalist and being able to both construct and conduct an interview are skills that take real journalists years to perfect. I think this video is a great example of how successful youtubers can fool themselves into believing they are journalists. Being able to put youtube videos together and amass an online audience is impressive in and of itself but it is not the same as being a journalist. I think Joe massively overestimated his abilities here and was operating way beyond his comfort zone. Maybe even acting a little entitled. He's a phenomenal youtuber and should stick to that. It's something he is amazing at and has served him well.

No it doesn't, but the evidence is very clear. Joe had real concerns, but like Joe even says, the show got better every year. He needed to investigate that year's improvements so he could focus on what was STILL wrong with the show. But he's an amateur that jumped at a chance and jumped in feet first.

I felt completely disgusted by Geoff's way of handling things and felt he just took the opportunity to publicly make Joe look bad. It's pretty standard for any kind of person dealing with public relations like this (politicians, celebrities) trying to deflect Journalist by defllecting questions back to them/gaslighting them/making them secondguess themselves (watch any Politician interview by an antagonizing Journalist to see what I'm talking about) Joe being a self made internet reviewer trying to make it in to the videogame journalist scene without having having gone to Journalism school and actually pioneering a path from the social media scene had no idea about this, this interaction today would have occurred through email, to which Mr Dorito Pope would have given a pretty standard PR response. But since Joe was trying to paint himself as a hero of the PC gaming community and to get some headlines and clicks he tried his luck and totally failed. If this has happened to him while working at some newspaper or magazine they would have made fun of him at redaction and explained to him how to handle reluctant interview subject as to negate that first line of defense. I'm a bit late to the party, but what he says at :15 explains *everything* to me. I'm not an expert, but I can guarantee you that something like the VGAs is planned out *MONTHS* in advance. You have to set up the thing, you have to gather guests and performers, you have to organize seating and housing, you have to set up interviews, all this sort of ridiculous stuff that's planned out way before anything is even announced. I don't know what the hell Joe was expecting, giving the press team a week's notice of a proposed 15 minute interview he wanted to have at the ceremony. Like him or not, Geoff has a schedule. Everybody at that event has a schedule, and probably had a schedule prepared long before Joe got in touch with them. He's lucky to have even gotten those 2 minutes, especially for the sort of bad attitude he was exuding right out of the gate.

I think Joe was in a high pressure environment, was thrown off and simply failed to answer a question about MMO's. His question about the 2002 fiasco was fair, all the other guy had to do was say he wasn't involved and from the very beginning all Joe said he wanted was to understand if the VGA's were changing. Geoff also looked somewhat taken aback when Joe finally lost his temper. Watch the change in his facial expression at 7:59, compared to his prior smirk. At the end of the day he was there to be interviewed. Sure Joe was wrong to expect that he wouldn't come prepared; however he admits he conducted the interview wrong from the beginning of the video. The fact is though that Geoff Keighley is the executive CEO and was supposed to defend the show. Instead of devoting time to defending the show he sells Joe out short, giving him a couple of minutes to talk, throwing him off from the beginning and ruining the interview. This is the result of when an unprofessional RUclipsr goes up against someone with years of experience talking to people worldwide and being in different situations. It's pretty standard for any kind of person dealing with public relations like this (politicians, celebrities) trying to deflect Journalist by defllecting questions back to them/gaslighting them/making them secondguess themselves (watch any Politician interview by an antagonizing Journalist to see what I'm talking about) Joe being a self made internet reviewer trying to make it in to the videogame journalist scene without having having gone to Journalism school and actually pioneering a path from the social media scene had no idea about this, this interaction today would have occurred through email, to which Mr Dorito Pope would have given a pretty standard PR response. If this has happened to him while working at some newspaper or magazine they would have made fun of him at redaction and explained to him how to handle reluctant interview subject as to negate that first line of defense. To be fair, you sounded like you weren't prepared for the interview, and you couldn't back up your own points very well. You need to have had these answers on the spot with facts and details memorized. And he pointed this out, which made you angry, but he was actually right about that. And you should have known when he was the producer before bringing up the jenna jameson thing. Everything that went wrong with this interview, besides the crappy environment and him looking away all of the time, was with you. He's not innocent or anything - he was a douche - but you didn't bring your A-game at all, and he ripped you for that. I'm a bit late to the party, but what he says at :15 explains *everything* to me. I'm not an expert, but I can guarantee you that something like the VGAs is planned out *MONTHS* in advance. You have to set up the thing, you have to gather guests and performers, you have to organize seating and housing, you have to set up interviews, all this sort of ridiculous stuff that's planned out way before anything is even announced. I don't know what the hell Joe was expecting, giving the press team a week's notice of a proposed 15 minute interview he wanted to have at the ceremony. Like him or not, Geoff has a schedule. Everybody at that event has a schedule, and probably had a schedule prepared long before Joe got in touch with them. He's lucky to have even gotten those 2 minutes, especially for the sort of bad attitude he was exuding right out of the gate.

I think Joe was in a high pressure environment, was thrown off and simply failed to answer a question about MMO's.
His question about the 2002 fiasco was fair, all the other guy had to do was say he wasn't involved and from the very beginning all Joe said he wanted was to understand if the VGA's were changing. Geoff also looked somewhat taken aback when Joe finally lost his temper.
Watch the change in his facial expression at 7:59, compared to his prior smirk. At the end of the day he was there to be interviewed. Sure Joe was wrong to expect that he wouldn't come prepared; however he admits he conducted the interview wrong from the beginning of the video.
The fact is though that Geoff Keighley is the executive CEO and was supposed to defend the show. Instead of devoting time to defending the show he sells Joe out short, giving him a couple of minutes to talk, throwing him off from the beginning and ruining the interview.

It's hard to believe this was almost 10 years ago now. I still come back and rewatch this every now and again because the interview is so hilarious.
I feel like Angry Joe isn't there to do an interview so much as just wanting to voice his opinions and feel like he's being heard. If you saw, the other press members were just asking simple questions and listening very carefully to the answer, but Joe just seemed like he wanted to argue his side of the point, asking rhetorical questions that don't really need an answer.
