    I bought a used Ryker 600 in May. It has less than 10,000 miles on it, but it's a 2019 model - and according to the previous owner, still has the original belt. He didn't think it needed replacing until the 12000 mile maintenance cycle. I haven't had any problems, but I may change it out anyway. And after watching your video, I no longer feel I've been denied essential, need-to-know information.... 🙂

    That is an industrial torque drive that been around for over 100 years. My 1975 Rokon Enduro motorcycle had a similar drive assy. There is definitely a trick to changing out the belt. What is interesting is that these belts wear from the sides not on the top and bottom(where the teeth are). It will become narrower as it wears. You did a good job. Thanks for sharing this.

      It's called a centrifugal clutch. It was common on ToteGoats, Cushmans, Rokons, Go-Karts, etc. It's the poor man's automatic transmission. Sadly, Can-Am could do a lot better.

    Thank you very much for giving us confidence before we wrench our Rykers! I just did my wife's 2019 600 Ryker. The new drive belt number for the 600 ACE is 422280656. This part number supersedes the former 422280654. A quick test in the garage proved that the new belt got rid of the clunk at take off, which is awesome. We'll see next summer if this lasts. A couple of tricks I learned: Removing the muffler does helps a lot when trying to put the cap back on. It's only one bolt and a two spring clamp (but the springs are tricky to put back on if you've never done this). Finally, steering the wheels full lock to the left helped me get the clamshell higher up in the air.

    Amen to the last comment. I had a CanAm Commander several years ago, and the CVT was practically the same setup. As you back off the pressure, from the tool, that is against the pully, spin the upper pully by hand. Probably need to scotch the wheels and have the machine in neutral. As you spin the upper pully, the belt will automatically climb higher inside the upper pully.

    maybe an option for the belt : put your bike in neutral, (between fwd and reverse) this will free up the upper wheel of the cvt, and while releasing tenssion on the center bolt, you can turn the wheel for the belt to set itself in position (loosen, then rotate, then loosen then rotate...) maybe that could work to... From my experience had my transmission message hit at 11k, waited until 12k miles to actually have belt swapped and I could tell ya I lost some top end speed and overall acceleration. I did have the dealer swap the belt out and I’m pretty sure I could’ve stretched it a few thousand more miles. BRP wants to prevent people from blowing belts out, as it’s a pretty violent scenario and makes a mess inside the belt housing, so better safe than sorry. I really appreciate the video. This transmission is damn near the same as their can am X3 but the Ryker is a oriented weird. Thanks again

    Word of advice, you should always blow out the secondary & primary clutches with air to remove belt debris. And also take a scotch brite pad with break cleaner and clean inside of the clutches. Then use a rag and wipe them down to clean of the residue. Just some advice, I could see belt dust on the clutches in the video. That’s why I was bringing this to your attention. This makes sure the clutches have a clean surface to grab the belt. Not doing so can cause belt slip over time and damage the belt and the clutches which can get costly if having to replace or rebuild them. And just do a thorough observation of the clutches conditions to make sure nothing is lose or has any chips dents or physical wear. And regarding the belt replacement, you need to always crank the unit after you swap the belt and allow the clutches to engage the belt to rise to the top the secondary clutches.

      Just curious. When the motor is idling does the belt just slip until the centrifugal weights tightens the belt or does it have a centrifugal clutch as well? If the belts slips adling is it bad to have it idling for a long time?

    • @Cinccinatti_C3
      @Cinccinatti_C3 Год назад +1

      @@JayDee-xj9lu no it doesn’t. The primary is not engaged at idle to bite down on the belt. Only during acceleration does the primary engage and begin to bite down on the belt transferring to secondary therefore thru too the transmission to start the movement.

    • @JayDee-xj9lu
      @JayDee-xj9lu Год назад +1

      @@Cinccinatti_C3 Ok Thanks. So the primary does both, with a centrifugal clutch and changes the diameter of the pulley . Very clever setup. Normally in a car cvt to change the steel belt is very expensive. The Ryker setup is simple and cheap to fix. I wonder how long the belt could really last. Did you measure the width of the old belt to see how much wear you had.

    Don't know if this has been mention or not in other comments already but when you put a new belt like this on you need to spin the drive to get the belt to tighten up. Great how-to video, I will explain why the old one "Looks" to you just as good as the new one. The way the clutch works is it pinches the belt, meaning it gets the grip from the sides of the belt not the face( Inside or out) If you would take measurements on the width of the belt you would see there would be a difference. it also should be worn at an angle on the edge on the inside. When the engine gets enough RPM to engage the clutch the belt will slip a little bit every time you take off. This is what wares down the belt It can even wear divots in the edge of the belt.
    If you really want to know how much its worn at your belt change get a caliper and measure the width.

    I have the same manual and one thing about all the manuals is they are NOT the most accurate. They will get you in the general area but you are going to have to remove a lot more... just make sure you take photos before removing so you know how it went before you took it apart. This also aids in not having everything back together and having to reopen the damn machine because you left a part out. Because I have Can-Am Mavericks the belt swap is pretty easy but I don't change them out until, one, I either shred one or it starts to slip and I drive my Mavericks a lot harder than I do my Ryker. So I'll probably just inspect the belt rather than change it out but a great video for those who just have a Ryker... Great JOB... 👍🏼
