This organ, was restored in the Flentrop Orgelbauw factory, by me, Manuel da Costa. It was my favourite when I was studying restoration in the second half of the 1960s.
That's what I've realized from listening to these very old organs. Bigger and louder does NOT mean better, especially for a church. If only we could once again capture the gentle sweetness and warm tone these ancients give, people might fall in love with the organ as an instrument all over again!
Very interesting Wim! It shows just how much organs have developed over the years, from something very mechanical like this to the more modern electrified instruments. Still sounds great, even though it is nearly 500 years old!
LOL, 'the *FORBIDDEN CHORDS'* 😁 'well-tmpered' was not a thing in those days. For such a tiny keyboard range, it actually does have a good selection of stops. Would be even nicer with a small pedal board.😉
Very interesting demonstration of a lovely instrument. So, no pedalboard or pedal stops. Only a manual 16'? The seperate 2 2/3' Quint seems redundant (?) with a Sesquialtera of 2 2/3' + 1 3/5'. But maybe it filled-out the Mixture harmonics.
Krewerd, the second oldest organ in The Netherlands ( ruclips.net/video/fMVW_eHg0cI/видео.html ) is open to the public practically every weekend and if you want you can contact the custodian and play this beautiful old instrument
+Rachid Mafhoum I can't be your friend, we live so far away. However, I can be your Christian advisor. :-) What you first must do, is believe in Jesus Christ as your savior, and pray and ask Him for forgiveness of your sins. After that, you then must accept the gift of the Holy Spirit. As you progress in your time of being a Christian, read His holy scripture, show His kindness and love to all the people that you encounter, and go around preaching the gospel of our Lord! If you have access to the Internet, you can read the Holy Bible through it, if you can't have a physical bible. Another step of salvation, which comes after accepting his gift, is baptism. Be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. I will be praying for you. Peace be with you, brother of Christ.
general comments lol: idk why but the tomb of francois von bredehoff kinda scares me a bit the keys look old as the bones of a 500+ year old man the pipes sound wonderful, and I barely hear any reeds just flutes
@@bpowell875 I may have an alternative for you, the 2nd oldest organ in The Netherlands see ruclips.net/video/fMVW_eHg0cI/видео.html Church is open to the public and you can play the organ if you want and are able to play ( a little bit decently :-) )
Because the pipes were made and tuned to Just Intonation, meaning some intervals are wider on certain keys than others; in other words, A minor on this organ sounds man times more harmonious than your modern pipe organ, but B major sounds more dissonant than modern organs. Pretty much all modern instruments are tuned to Equal Temperament. Different tuning system, so some keys sound better, and some sound worse.

Congratulations on a job lovingly completed.
Odesterrado you found nicking in the languids at that time?
Cant go wrong using either Flentrop or Casavant. The current gods of organbuilding.
Nice job.
Wow!!!!
It may be old, it may not be very big, but the sound so beautiful.
I love the meantone demonstration at the end.
Don't play the forbidden chords, lol.. Love those medieval riffs, eventually I'll learn a few..
A passing “ dissonant chord “ still sounds sweet in this building
I was eagerly awaiting F# major and man was I satisfied :D
Hartelijke groeten.
Just perfect presentation of the organ, thanks for sharing!
Awesome organ, great tuning and beautiful stops!
Such a nice melody flow at the start!
Topics like these are so fascinating!
Love this place thank you for having me :)
A absolutely beautiful sounding organ. Beats the modern big beasts!

Another neat find during the Coronavirus Spring. How many plagues, wars and government crisis has this organ been played through?
one of the few where the healthy were locked in
A good organ + a good church organ player knowing the limits of the instrument = nice sound.
Interessant filmpje Wim, leuke mini-documentaire.

What a wonderfull old organ !
Imagine the number of hymns, it has played...😮🙆♂️🎉
Interessante geschiedenis, Wim!
The beautiful organ in the Martini church in Groningen dates back till mid 15th century and is later several times rebuild and extended.
Very interesting demonstration of a lovely instrument.

I must visit this Church.

Love it, guys! :)
I love when he said: forbidden chords, because it is very old there is no Well-tempered tuning at that time.
It was well tempered but not well-tempered, 😉.
LOVE THIS❤❤❤
I love this
W-What do the forbidden chords do?
Amazing testimony!!!
It is not a big organ but the sound is beautiful.
Great!
very good. documentary
I rather thought that the side organ in St Lauren's, Alkmaar, was a few years older than this one.
I would rather hear one chord played on this organ than the entire works of Bach played on "the more modern electrified instruments".
The instrument does indeed have a wonderful sound.
I wish one near day
can pray in church
there are no church
in my country , really
l m verry sorry !!!
What country do you live in?

+Rachid Mafhoum Then you should start a Christian church there. :-) I take it, there aren't many Christians there?
You can always contact your closest priest.

Bedankt

6:22: I thought, that a forbidden chord in this setting would be a blues chord!😄
So back in the day, what produced the air pressure to power all those pipes?
I assume it was hand-pumped with bellows or a similar mechanism.
@@bpowell875 Yup pure old elbow grease (actually pumped by foot action)
@@PHPJN7 I hope I can play this organ if only once! Such a beautiful place. Imagine the lives this building has encountered over the centuries
