Song by Sigvaldi Kaldalóns (1881-1946) and poem by Grímur Thomsen (1820-1896). Song is about 100 years old, the poem was published in 1861. Not a folk song in the sense most people would define folk songs, there isn't even really any reference to folklore. And note: "smala fé á laun" = "herding sheep secretly", not "herding sheep for wages". A more nuanced translation would be that they are herding sheep so they can steal them for themselves and they are trying not to be found out.

Correction: "Eru kannski að smala fé á laun" means "Are maybe herding sheep in secret" not "are maybe gathering sheep for wages"
Laun can mean wages but in this context it means in secret. Great video though and keep up the good work.
Song by Sigvaldi Kaldalóns (1881-1946) and poem by Grímur Thomsen (1820-1896). Song is about 100 years old, the poem was published in 1861. Not a folk song in the sense most people would define folk songs, there isn't even really any reference to folklore.
And note: "smala fé á laun" = "herding sheep secretly", not "herding sheep for wages". A more nuanced translation would be that they are herding sheep so they can steal them for themselves and they are trying not to be found out.
