So fun fact: I have a herniated disk in my lower back that blew out again one week out from the pans. Wrestling just wasn't an option for me here. Sorry for the boring match guys .
Does that even qualify as “jiu jitsu”? Damn. They really need to start pushing the action in IBJJF. Rocha spent 9 minutes avoiding and refusing to engage. WEAK.
I don't get it. The last match but doesn't engage. What do you have to lose at that point? Either, you stand back and watch the other guy win or you engage and attempt to win. If you lose from engaging at least you tried, if you win then you've done your job. The other thing, he wasted more energy squatting/standing/squatting/standing then he did engaging. Again, a waste of energy.
honestly most of the brazilian competitors of this era are so fucking boring to watch, especially if its a point rules set, andrews style is dope you always push the pace man I love it
Imagine training years to get here reaching the final and loosing with out even fighting because you stall all the fight even at the last seconds not trying anything man this guys has a serious brain problem, so Conservative so afraid to loose a point he prefer to just loose the match
@@openmatjiujitsubrisbane I see where your argument is going, but i think some part of initiative should be delegated to the guard pullers side too: if you just can not get something going, you should be able to change your strategy. Something like: force the other guy through a takedown or a more offensive/risky guard pull into a more compromised situation. Its just an opinion, I do not compete myself. It is just my random thought on it.
The dude who sat down is really good ive seen all his videos. But sitting the entire time and winning by a penalty is lame... stand up and get in there! He should have recieved the penalty for sitting down the entire time.
@@thisdjisamonkey if ur too scared/cautious/whatever to engage with someone sitting on their butt u should prob stick to wrestling..? Just my thoughts.
They need start standing these guys up. If you pull guard are not able to tap the guy, you need to stand up. I don't think the guy on top should be the one to risk engaging with a guy who sits down and simply avoids getting his guard passed
Or people should work on guard passing. Wiltse is a very good guard passer and commented on here that he had a herniated disc just prior to pan ams and chose to play from the guard. It's Rocha's fault if he can't pass the guard.
i agree with u . the puller needs to do something, if not, he must get penalty too. the match is for the audience too. i m bjj practicioner and to see this is very annoyed and lame.
It's crazy that a person who actucally does jiu jitsu (I assume) is of this opinion. The guard is what makes jiu jitsu what it is. Also did you even watch the match? Wiltse is trying to play guard, Rocha is not trying to pass guard. The rules allow guard pulling and obligate the top player to engage because once the guard pull has taken place, the guard play is in progress and the passing is not, UNLESS the top player engages themselves in a passing attempt. The very essence of jiu jitsu is getting to a position where you can submit the opponent. For some the best position for that is playing guard, for some it's passing - obviously not for Rocha who deserves his loss. On a second note, competition jiu jitsu consists of gaming the rules as much as it consists of using your technical skill. Gaming the rules is one part of the game and active competitor black belts are very good at it. Unfortunately for Rocha, the rules obligate him to engage and this time that cost him the match. Wiltse was trying his best to engage but wasn't able to. TLDR one of them was trying and one wasn't. Also, watch wrestling.
@@puimuri166 When you pull guard, you're supposed to entrap the guy in some sort of way, not simply sit down and put the onus on the guy standing to keep the match going. How many world class wrestlers does Brazil have??
I miss Wiltse.
Personally, I’d rather get submitted than try to win a match in this manner

They should do some thing like a 30 second rule after pulling guard.
No
They should do something about someone disengaging the guard over and over again......
