The lady in the beginning of the video was wearing a hijab it's a religious headdress for Muslim women (and also a beanie for fun)

i think it’s definitely new adult (that sweet spot where a lot of YA characteristics are present, things are typically a bit simpler than adult fantasy, but characters are older and there are some more mature themes)
i loved this one, but i typically really enjoy books that are essentially plotless with just characters and vibes haha

New adult is a good term! I am glad you enjoyed it!

Haha! Your TikTok remake was superb! 👏 😂 I have heard of this books in a couple of videos and the thoughts were also not very positive. I think I’ll skip this one, but I love what you had to say about Abercrombie’s incredible character work. Your collection is absolutely gorgeous!

Glad you enjoyed it 😂 I don't think you would enjoy it tbh.
Abercrombie is a master at creating compelling characters!

Don’t have Tic Toc?!!! You’re not the only one.
I have a feeling this book is for teenagers!

      It felt YA to me!

Such a good review. I definitely think it's a new adult kind of book.
I agree that the last 40 pages were good and were what has made me want to read the sequel. It made it a 3.5 star book for me.

I've heard of this book before-I don't think it's for me. I'm not so keen on romance-heavy plot and the positive spin on cheating is a major turn-off. Why couldn't the author just write the couple as being in an open relationship? Wouldn't that have achieved a better result?

Nailed the Tiktok 🤣Really interesting point about how narcissistic characters can (and should) still be likeable. I guess the same applies to amoral characters? (Jorg in Mark Lawrence's Broken Empire series) Anyway from what you say this makes me think I might find this book a little annoying, but I'm still excited about it. Could go either way...

      Thank you 😂
I did not find Jorg likeable hence why I didn't continue that series 😅
I hope you will enjoy it!

Despite not always agreeing with your bookish opinions, this review was exactly what I needed to decide whether to read this book (answer, I don't think it's for me). Thanks for the helpful and informative (ans also very entertaining) review🥰

istg people only love the characters because of the super attractive character art, other than that the characters are extraordinary unlikable, irritating (looking at you liddy) and blanderrr than unseasoned oatmeal.

I'm sorry, I don't know who you are and this is my first vid of you but I have never seen someone's voice fit their face so well. Saw you, went, "I bet he sounds like this," and you did. Here's my subscription to make up for it.

The tiktok remake!! That was hilarious and on-point!! I have only read one Joe Abercrombie, Half the King. Agree with you on his character work. I read it by accident and didn't know who the author was or it was a fantasty book. Thought it was historical. I read it 6hears back and I still think about the book. It was such a good read. This one's on my radar. Sounds like some of the YA/NA I have read with romance elements having more of an importance in the storyline. I think it's probably good for when you are craving a lighter read.

I haven't read Half the King yet! Most people agree that that is his weakest book so you should definitely check out The First Law!

@@libraryofavikingHalf a King is YA, or NA I think. Could be why most people enjoyed it less to First Law. I have the First Law Trilogy ready to read. I just need to find the right time for it, as I am multi-reading quite a few titles at the moment.

You know, I kinda agree with everything you said, yet this was a 5-star book for me (though I don't know how it'll hold up on reread, maybe it was just the right book at the right time). I read the self-published version right before the immense hype started (in June 2021 I believe) and I absolutely loved that reading experience. It's funny, because I know I should hate Parisa, but she was probably one of my favourites, lol. Oh well, what can I say, sometimes I just love me some problematic, unlikable characters... whoops.
Loved hearing your thoughts tho! Glad to hear that you at least didn't hate it ;)

This book just *screams* YA to me 🤣 but I'm not big into romance in books so I think I'll be avoiding this one cause everyone I've heard screaming about it loves Fantasy Romance haha

I really don't understand why they think referencing a social media is going to age well. I could understand like a sticker that you could peel off but it wouldn't age well at all. Tik tok will inevitably due away years from now so it would be extremely corny to have your books referencing a dead social media. Could you imagine if they jumped on this when vine was around? My point is that I would never buy a book that references a social media because they never stick around. 20 years from now when people see that on their older books would just go "huh? Wtf is tik tok?"

If I have a really bad time with YA fantasy, should I skip this one? I really like the premise, but I'm sick of being disappointed with YA fantasy. Plot and world building almost universally take a back seat to the romantic tension.

    • @libraryofaviking
      @libraryofaviking  2 года назад

I have very limited experience with modern YA so I am not sure if you would enjoy it! The premise is definitely interesting!

Love your TikTok remake xD Atlas Six is one that I’m sort of interested in and like the premise of, but I haven’t been gunning to pick it up. Hearing about the unfaithfulness has me… much less enthused.
Also my hot take of the day - the original cover was better than the Tor rerelease. I find the new one very generic and a bit dull.
