    My 3.5mo old can usually put herself to sleep for a nap. Tip: it helps if you snug a blanket tight around their arms like a swaddle does. She loves to sleep in her rocker. She also will suck her thumb to sleep and after her nighttime feeding she only wakes to eat 1-2 times a night! We cosleep so i believe that has helped her immensely.

    Omg thank you for addressing naps. I’m sick of feeling like I’ve done something wrong. Both my children nap/napped 4-5 times a day and for only 30mins. They’d mostly wake happy so I wouldn’t bother resettling. There’s so much noise from sleep programs that would tell me my baby is both under and overtired because they only slept 30mins. Both kids have hit milestones on time or ahead.

    My 3 older kids needed help sleeping at that age, but my current 12 week old will put himself to sleep all the time. He will be playing on his mat and then he will just doze off. He also has less naps during the day. Maybe 3 naps, but sleeps longer stretches. Wakes up all night long though to nurse. He also rolls from back to tummy. His little hands are always closed still. He started laughing a few weeks ago. So sweet little angel.

    All the milestones in the video describe my 11 week old baby. She had a bit of a sleep regression when she went through a growth spurt last week but she is getting back to her normal sleep patterns at night. She started laughing out loud at 10 weeks and even laughs aloud in her sleep. She has the most lively laugh. We also have conversations with her when I talk and she coos back. Most precious times. 😊😊😊

I feel much more normal with the information you provide. Thank you.

    This is so reassuring. I was seing these arbitrary nap schedules that showed 90-120 minute naps and 8 hour nights and my kido absolutely does not do that. She has her 20-50 minutes naps, can't settle herself back when she wakes up (she is pretty cranky also when she wakes up) and the nights are more like you described. This is probably the first time i'm seing information that matches our situation on sleep. Thanks !!

    My baby is now approaching the 3 months mark and currently she definitely needs a nap every 120 min the least! She also only sleeps most of the time for 30 min - 45 min just as you said. If she doesn't get her naps during the day, she is pretty cranky in the evening. I noticed that she really needs a quiet, dark place to settle for sleep. She needs our help to calm down but once her eyes are closed, she can get herself back to sleep in case she should be awake due to a noise etc. When I talked to the doctor about the naps during the day, she said that it is unusual that a baby at 3 months still requires napping every 1h - 1,5h. She said they should have longer wake period up to 3h, but to be honest, I know my baby and know when she is tired. What you were describing seems most accurate to what babies need at that age! Also, I noticed that when she gets enough sleep during the day, she doesn't have the "witch hours" but settles for her night sleep very well. Currently she wakes 3 times in total during the night.

    I might have the most average baby ever (I mean that in a positive way, I'm super glad he's not missing anything right now) Every single thing you mentioned my baby can do, including the sleep thing. He'll sleep from 930 - 330 and then at 5 or 6, and then again at 8 or 9 am and then up for the day. Also doing those 30 min naps lol
    He scares the hell out of me... he tries SO HARD to roll on his (back to) belly. I know he can because I put him to bed on his back, and when I woke up he was on his belly 😭 And one day I was in the kitchen and he's on his playmat .. I looked at him and he was on his belly!! It takes him like, a half an hour or more but he does it 😂🥰

    I know it isn’t recommended by the AAP but sleeping with my baby right next to me, spooning even, has helped my 2-3m old sleep through the night since I started. Doesn’t even wake up when I change his diaper, and only stirs to eat and the breast is right there so sleep is constant. It’s been amazing, if you do it safely, it’s fine.

    My little one is 12 weeks right now. Since he is 6kg already, I started to sleep training last week. It took 3 nights by the CIO method. Last 2 nights, he went to sleep on his own in about 10 minutes without any crying, just listening to baby music. He is fully brestfed and slept through the night yesterday. I actually had to wake him up at 5 am as my brests were too full and sore. Hopefully, it will continue as well with other milestones. He hates tummy time right now. I wonder if it is because he has always full tummy and tummy time makes him uncomfortable and spitting out. 🤔

    My son just turned 3 months and he’s sucking his thumb or fist when his Binky falls out… grabbing objects with both hands and wants to taste/everything. The past week he rolls over from his back onto his stomach and is legitimately trying to crawl but gets stuck in first gear forgets to hit the clutch and stalls out lol 😂He 100% still needs to be rocked by to sleep and wakes up 3-5 times a night… my wife is a super hero and most mothers are! I just feel bad not being able to do more and help out. With breast feeding I do my best to make sure my wife is well fed and constantly pushing her to get her nails done etc. yesterday she finally got a hair cut 💇‍♀️ I got lucky, little bundle of joy slept the entire time. Feel so guilty like I’m not helping my wife enough and don’t know what else I can do…… wish she would tell me and I would do it…..

    • @EmmaHubbard

      Some bubs do sleep for a good block at the start of the night. Usually this is fine as it is just their circadian rhythm kicking in. I would just keep an eye on his weight gain if you are concerned about the impact it might have on his weight. But generally this shouldn’t be an issue if he is feeling well during the day.

My child still clenches his fist but would have moments when its relaxed throughout the day. He also begins to notice it and move his fingers while looking at his hands. During tummy time though he seems to prefer to clench his fist rather than relax his hand.

      @@EmmaHubbard it’s ok to feed to sleep past the age of 3 months as well. It’s biologically normal for babies. WHO also recommends breastfeeding until 2 years and beyond ❤️ it’s important for new mums to know this and be empowered to make the choice to feed their baby to sleep

      @@alexandradubovska7531 You can continue to do that later than 3 months, but baby will have sleep problems. They will wake up frequently and cry for mom to come back and comfort nurse all throughout their sleep. That makes for a VERY exhausted mom.

      @@AMcDub0708 where is your evidence of that claim? My baby is 7.5months and have already slept through the night couple of times. Some adults are incapable of sleeping through the the whole night and get up to drink, go to toilet or because they’re hot/cold. It’s normal to be tired when you have a child, you need support network around you. Child needs you 24/7, breastfeeding and bed sharing makes responding to your child easier.

    Hi Emma, I just found your channel and you’ve answered so many questions I have in my head. Regarding the thumb in the palm, my 3 month old still does it when she’s making a fist or sometimes when she’s asleep, she has them closed with her thumbs in as well until it eventually relaxes to an open hand. Is that still normal or should her thumbs not do that anymore? Thank you if you will have time to answer this. 🙏🏻

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  2 года назад +2

      Hi Danica, if your little one is able to open up her hands (with her thumb out) when she reaches for and briefly holds a toy I would not be concerned. I would only be concerned if those thumbs were constantly in and this was then making it difficult to hold a toy.
      I hope that helps clear up your concerns!

    Thank you for all the informations , would be great if you could do a video on what to expect for premature babies , i have a 4 month old preemie ( born @ 33 weeks ) and is difficult to track his milestones

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  4 года назад +1

      Hi Andreea thanks for your message. Typically when we see a baby who was born prematurely we would based the milestones we are expecting on their corrected/adjusted age. So your little one was born 7 weeks premature. To make it easy to calculate I would say 2 months premature. So you said he is 4 months old I would minus 2 months - so we would be aiming for the 2 month developmental milestones now. Hope that makes sense.

    Thank you for this video! The sleep part is really interesting for me. My son naps 30 minutes in a day, I was worried that it might be a little too short for him. But at night now he is waking up every hour. What could be the reason of that ? Any idea, any help ? 🙂

    • @helenomotayo9827
      @helenomotayo9827 3 года назад +3

      Hunger might be a reason... During the night, the baby is too sleepy to feed well thus having short feeds...so he/she needs to wake up more often to feed.

      Hi @La Jaguar that sounds very tough! Is your little one still waking up that often? Sometimes they go through a week or a few days of horrible night sleep that then improves. When you are feeding your little one at night try and keep the room dark (limited stimulation) and just feed, change nappy, wrap and feed and then bed. I do have a video on newborn sleep tips and catnapping which you might find helpful.
