This is the best video on this problem. This happened to me, this is how i fixed mine instead of vice grips. Put the nut back on with 2 washers tighten. Then hold back on the neck with pliers and then with a socket/ ratchet continue to tighten till it turns. It will get free. Continue to add penetrating oil from both sides and continue to work till all the rust comes out. Wow! Agressive!.. I had exact issue, same steps but just cleaned and wd 40 on cable and all included. Loosened and retighted all for good flow of wd40. Reasymboled,.2/ 3hr days Done. No cost!...was quoted $ 650.00..
09 3.3L v6 Sonata 200000 miles Very similar for shifter cable replacement. Save yourself the time and get yourself a ratcheting 12mm closed end wrench with a flex / pivoting end. Also you'll have to take off the footwell side panels for both driver and passenger to access those bolts. The cable will pull out through the interior, i cut my cable in half to make it easier to pull through the hole.
HT, my shaft lever from transmission is NOT moving by hand like yours but its moving when I pry it with a large screwdriver …..how do I free up the arm or trans shaft lever?
Try soaking it with penetrating fluid let it sit then play around with. Worst case scenario is you have to heat it up, but since you can move it with screwdriver the penetrating fluid will free it up. Let me know
Can the shift linkage cable (or shifter cable) cause gear timing or selection issues such as the speed measured by input shaft speed sensor to be different from the speed of the engine, and therefore TCM/PCM to report "Input Shaft Speed Sensor No Signal" error?
@@SchrodingerzCar so it just came off? But if you put it back the shifter works fine? If yes maybe temporarily you can use a paper clip just lock it in place unless the cable itself is damage and in that case you need a new one.
Shifter wont go to drive? Check the end of the cable in the transmission if that joint is moving freely, if not you can lubricate it for the meantime to loosen it up, if its really stuck yeah you need new shifter cable.

The clip on the transmission side or tge shifter assy side, shifter assy side you just have to spread the c shape and pull, on the transmission side theres a small tab on each side where the cable sits, you have to push at the same time and pull the cable up, and spray some penetrating fluid maybe its stuck on some rust. You mean what if the battery keeps dying and the shifter wont come out to park? Either you have two separate issue or they are related. Maybe you have a parasitic draw meaning you have unwanted current turning on when the vehicle is off or you have a fault in charging system and not charging the battery. For the shifter issue, it could be anything, you could have a fault in your brake switch, shifter solenoid or shifter cable. I would suggest to go to reputable mechanic and have it diagnose correctly. Thanks
Hello i have the same car and it was stuck in P but was forced into drive worked for awhile but now it wont go in drive but it will reverse but it does stick in park and stick when going from drive to reverse. Do you think its the same issue as this? also no drive light. only PRN lights up but not drive. Please get back to me I really need help. Thank you.
It depends, one way is to remove the cable from transmission or the inhibitor switch, the try moving the shifter if it moves freely if yes then you gonna check the end of the cable if it turns freely, if not you need a new cable, if it turns freely you have to move the input lever in the transmission if it moves freely. Just had this done on my accent. They charged me an arm and a leg on the labor. Took them 2hrs

No, the shift cable just for selection for park to drive, if you have issue with the speed sensor couls be you have sensor issue, wire issue.

What's that clip on the inside of the car for the shifter cable? My car got stuck in neutral and I noticed nothing was there.
The clip is just to keep the cable in place so that it wont come off.

Could be cable or the end of the cable that is connected to the inhibitor switch couls be seized. Checked those.

Maybe you have a parasitic draw meaning you have unwanted current turning on when the vehicle is off or you have a fault in charging system and not charging the battery. For the shifter issue, it could be anything, you could have a fault in your brake switch, shifter solenoid or shifter cable.
