Nice video... you need to pull on the wire against the bar with your pliers and then twist; don't just twist and twist until tight, the wire will break.
Also it is very critical that both wires twist into the winding. If one wire twist around the other the central wire twists and will break before adequate tension is achieved.
It is very critical that both wires twist into the winding. If one wire twist around the other the central wire twists and will break before adequate tension is achieved.
Really nice presentation of the various ties with different styles. The yellow contrast with the rebar showed well as you explained. I used to use simple wire and tie like much of your video showed but as I have gotten older (and always seem to have less time) I have become a fan of the 'loop' ties. Cheers!
Great job Dan. Thanks for the very clear instructions and awesome filming. It would be great if you could extend this video to also show tying of 3 rebars coming together at 90 degrees angle to each other.
Awesome videos on the different ties for rebar. Great explanation, examples, and overall presentation. You definitely need to work on your technique, but since I doubt your career is rodbusting then it's sort of a moot point, just if you want to know, you should use the pliers as a lever to take the slack out of your wire before twisting home and you won't have to twist so much and you'll get a tighter tie, that and you should have your pliers closer to the bar on the wire than the end of the wire.
(Klien tools)Using pliers #7 or 9s is the fastest way to tie and try no to grab wire with ur hands only with one hand to hold wire and use the pliers to thread the tie wire.
im doing a shuffleboard court and im a rookie. first time doing rebar. my court is 52' long. my rebar is 20' long. how many nails per pc of rebar do i need to hammer in the frame?
Many thanks from a rebar novice. Just a thought. Drasticly shorten the music and image section at the beginning. I know it is “branding but it gets in the way of the value of your videos.
Yikes, that is a really tough question to answer, but.... If a rod buster was tying stacked offset wall mats on the flat that already had the bar laid out and they never had to reload their wire reel, take a break, or stretch. I would say a tie every 3-4 seconds would be expected. That would place them in the range of about 9,000-12,000 ties in a work day. That is not reality though, so I would say a couple of thousand would be really good. Start getting into pilasters, columns, grade beams, and other heavily reinforced and congested components and that number might drop to only a few hundred especially if they are placing bar. This is why we estimate bar installation by the ton and take into account where the bar is being used.
damn your methods are slow overseas, in iceland we mostly use the old school spinners and its the fastest especially compared to clippers i simply dont get why you use them. We only use guns for cross tying floors

Kind sir, you are holding the pliers backwards. Also I'm sure that you are very happy that you don't have to do this for a living. Let the Union Professionals install for you. Please take this post down.
What local do you belong to if I may ask kind sir! No, I am not a rod buster by trade, but I know how these things work and I was a superintendent that oversaw structural concrete contractors on a half-billion dollar project including the iron workers that installed the bar. I had to deal with the inspectors when the bar hardly ever was installed with the correct cover, spacing, and so on. I am disappointed that most rod busters will blindly install what is sent to site in the wrong location or without the proper cover because they don't know how or have the ability to field fabricate anything now days. It is always easier to blame someone else and make a bigger problem so that you can come back, tear it apart and do it over again and delay a project. These are Union Professionals I am referring to. Over the past 6 or so years, there was so much construction that almost every trade was allowing just about anyone to buy their cards. I became a journeyman carpenter in 2000, but a lot of scabs bought their cards and knew almost nothing of their trade these last few years and had superiority complexes because they were now "union" trades people. Where are you in that timeline? Oh, and I'm left handed so until Klein makes plyers correctly, I guess they will be backwards!

How many ties would an average worker be able to tie using the single tying with a cutter in a day of 10 work hours?

Good video
We use knipex here in New Zealand. They’re way faster than pliers. Honestly try them.
Always knipex. None of them 9 or 10 inch bolt crop wannabes though, 8" all day long.
I have to keep alternating nips to allow them to cool down 😉
Get the Tiger BNT series
Here is my question. You are only tying this to hold it until the concrete is poured right. Then why not just tack it with a mig welder
Welding rebar is not allowed by code(CRSI and ACI). It weakens the bar at the point of welding and can easily break.
great vid thanks
Thanks!
Excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for this video!
Not a rodbuster eh
Bend the wire and you don’t hve to do so many twist
Maybe flip it right side up also, the video that is. I’m not sure how you get it mixed but thank you non the less

To slow. Use a knipex pliers.. all what you need. And good tactics
That's the worst rod busting I have ever seen. Stop grabbing the wire with your hands.
You showing to cut the wire short of it will cut you.. the shorter you cut it the stronger it is and will slice you like a razor.. longer is better.
